The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
miffy495 replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
I have Deerhunter's newest, Microcastles. Really good. While we're talking about ungulates, there's a band called Caribou that has an album from last year called Andorra. It's awesome. Check it out. -
Ripburger does have a few things in common with Hamill's Joker from the early 90's Batman cartoon though. Dude did a lot of voice acting back in the day. Probably still does, but I'm less attentive now.

I've found my lurking tendencies have increased lately, and I'm not really sure why. I still post quite frequently, but nowhere near as much as I used to. Luckily, with (as mentioned) so many quality new members it hasn't mattered so much. Good podcast = good recruits. Who new?

No, Mark Hamill does the voice of Adrian Ripburger, the villain. Ben is done by the late Roy Conrad.

I'm frightened. Our dank and musty corner of the internet is being exposed to light. Now what hole can I crawl into? [/sarcasm] Welcome new folks!

Homicide was, if I'm not mistaken, largely done by Tom Fontana, who later went on to make Oz. As such, they have a bit of the same feel to them. Awesome show. I kept meaning to get into Mad Men, but forgot time and again. I'll have to add it to the Blu-Ray TV purchases I've been considering. Already have Firefly, thinking about Pushing Daisies.

Oh. My. God. How the hell can anyone have thought that ad was a good idea?

Whoo! My Game and Watch Collection has shipped! Now to be disappointed when it arrives and I realize that I redeemed the equivalent of $800 worth of merchandise to play a few really old arcade-style games!

Um... before I spend my money, what exactly is it?

Oh man, Opposing Force was fantastic. I loved that game. Can't wait to see what these guys come up with.

And done. Y'know, despite the crazy frustration I had on levels 5 and 6, I found the endgame to be surprisingly easy. I died several times because of miscalculated jumps, and maybe 3 because of combat (except for the snipers on the final level. They got me about 5 times before I figured out how to get 'em.) but I never got frustrated with 7, 8, or 9. The theory is that level 6 was the hump. This total rape-in-a-hole segment of the game that once I'd become skilled enough to get through, the rest of the game hit a difficulty plateau. That, or I completely sacked out. Either way, after all is said and done I feel really good about that game. I think I actually liked it a lot, despite how much it had me cursing a two nights ago... Oh, and has anyone else playing on a PS3 had it crash their system? Mine died twice during the last level, and at the exact same place both times. Third time I went through, no problems, but it was kinda frustrating. It was

Fair enough. I suspected as much, but wasn't actually sure either way. Hard to tell sarcasm on teh internets. Fun fact: A female friend of mine does not bother to see anything recent with James McAvoy in it because, and I quote, "I already saw his cock in Last King of Scotland. What else could he show me?"

Idle Thumbs 13: Manipulated Through Time
miffy495 replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Having beaten PoP, if you're far enough along that you've beaten at least one of the 4 generals (or whatever you want to call them) completely, you've seen almost all the game has to offer. All that's left that's really that impressive is the black and white boss fight which, while admittedly cool, does make the game very frustrating by pulling the camera back too far to really see what you're doing and removing the colour cues that would let you know what to do from that distance. And I guess the really out of character "gotta leave room for a sequel" ending. Although credit to it for actually having an end. After that team's last big effort with Assassin's Creed, I didn't have my hopes up. I actually liked that game much more, but it didn't end so much as stop abruptly. -
Hey, I'm not working Wednesday this week. I missed out on the last two rounds and feel like a tool for it, so I'd be up for a game. Anyone in?
-
Were you filming the round? Cool.

Usually it starts around 2 my time, meaning I was just about to log in.

I still can't get my damn 360 pad to interface properly with my PC, specifically Steam. I'm replaying Sands of Time right now, and the mouse/keyboard controls are driving me bloody crazy.

Ghost Dog.

Ok, I've been playing this over the last couple of nights. Oh my god it's hard. So bloody frustrating. Like, I'm looking back at the Meat Circus with fondness. It may be that I'm going for the "No shooting dudes" trophy, but shit. There were 3 separate segments tonight I had to retry upwards of 20 times before I could get through. One of them took me 40 fucking minutes. For a minute and a half gameplay segment. What the shit? I usually disarm and then toss the gun immediately, but I died so often that I just gave up and ran past the fuckers. Died the first three times I attempted that as well, but got away almost clean the fourth. Only had to kick one dude in the balls to make it through the gauntlet. Finished chapter 6 now. Maybe 7. Not really keeping track. I just figured out what Icarus was, so whatever mission that happens in. Also thinking it was kinda lame, but whatever. The game is so frustrating on so many levels. There's the "hey, here's something to do. FUCKING DIE!!!" level. That one is obvious. The most frustrating thing is the identity crisis and resulting waste of potential though. The incredible rush that you get when you find a good line and pull off a run is phenomenal. Every other part of the game is occasionally (hell, frequently) torture, but that feeling alone is keeping me going. A few more chapters to go, I'll get that damned trophy, then time trials ahoy. Very much looking forward to that. The new levels that are hitting Live and the PSN as well. Just give me the engine and some room to run, dammit. I'll make my own fun from there.

Bah! Only -25? Try Calgary. In the space of a week it's gone from -39 to 3. Stupid Rocky Mountains. I got Wii Fit back in October myself, but never really thought it enough of a game to mention. We got a shipment at work, I phoned the girlfriend, she ran down and grabbed a copy. Good times. Game is way more fun than I'dve given it credit for before trying. And yeah, very little else would have ever convinced me to try Yoga.

I got the Ion drum kit for Christmas. It's so fucking rad. Unfortunately, one of the heads recently stopped working. I replaced it with a cymbal for the time being, but I really need to get that replaced.

You can play as Forest Whittaker?
-
Not shit, just not tight enough.

I remember the original Superstar Saga being one of the first "serious" games my sister ever got into. She actually finished it before I did...

Yeah, I've found myself favoring the PS3 as well, and having to remind myself I have a 360 for certain games. If it weren't for the fact that I got Prince Of Persia on 360 instead of PS3 as a gift, I'dve played it on PS3 just out of habit. When I got it almost exactly a year ago, I figured it was within striking distance of its potential, and I think this year it struck. Especially the PSN. Get all 3 of those games you mentioned Nachimir, you won't regret it.
