  1. I still don't see it. Care to enlighten?
  2. Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar

Ahahahaha! Awesome. Made my day better. It may be the sleep deprivation, but I laughed my ass off. Thanks for that.
  3. I'm actually really enjoying the difficulty of Hatsworth. It is exactly like you said, Megaman difficulty. Only not quite so hard. Megaman is hard as shit, and some levels have ways of killing you within seconds of approaching the screen from the wrong angles, but if you can laugh those off as "What the shit? Oh man, that was hilariously cruel..." it's incredibly enjoyable. Hatsworth has a similar feel for me, only I find it to be slightly less cheap. I know if I die that it was because I didn't react quickly enough or didn't pull up the puzzle menu when I should have. It is indeed hard as shit, but at least it's fair. The over the top cheesy characters make me smile every time they come on screen simply by virtue of the little voice samples they have. Remo is right about the forgettable dialogue, but are you really buying something like this for deep characterizations? Syntheticgerbil, don't give up on this one so quickly. I was on the fence about it, but I am incredibly glad I caved and picked it up.
  4. Grand Thumb Auto XXII: Blixkrieg

Yeah. Was it you who kept me pinned for several minutes a couple of weeks ago by spraying the underside of my truck with your hose so I couldn't get up?
  5. Grand Thumb Auto XXII: Blixkrieg

Damn, I'm sorry I missed that one. Firetruck races are always good, but they can't use weapons anyway, so they don't become sweet until people decide to hop out and start killing. Still can't fathom why GTA Race isn't in TLAD. Just give us all the modes at once, dammit. I am quite proud of myself from going from last to first in that third race though. Fun times indeed.
  6. Anti-terror nonsense.

    Goddamn that shit is scary.
  7. Rock Band / Rock Band 2

Content wise, it's just 3 songs that won't transfer to your hard drive if you try to. Everything else goes straight over without incident. I haven't touched the RB disc since getting RB2, and I was playing some of the songs from it earlier tonight. Interestingly, some of the DLC that was available before RB2 came out is optimized to work with some of the features unique to the second game. I'm specifically thinking of Hammer-on chords, which are in 2 but not 1. Some songs released as far back as September use them, but the game came out 2 months after that. Just get 2 and you'll get the full experience. Career mode is a bit different. In RB1, you couldn't solo the world tour mode, and had to have someone to play with in order to go through it. RB2 adds the solo career mode as well as a challenge mode that lets you work through specific sets on various difficulty tiers. Honestly, if you miss out on the career mode in RB1, you're missing out on the only part of the game that wasn't awesome. Don't feel too bad about it. 2 is much, much better. And, as a bonus, if you import the songs from RB1, you don't need to go through and unlock them all. They're right there from the word go. As for characters, they're all customs, so there's no set characters you'd be missing out on at all. In RB1 you could unlock some special instruments by finishing the solo setlists on Expert, but you can't bring those over to 2 anyway. I prefer the unlockables in 2 regardless, but that's just me.
  8. Life

I hear there's a cheat code involving substance abuse, but you may glitch out your game...
  9. Life

Stressful as hell at the end of the semester, with the added pressure of preparing for an honours thesis next year. Still, after Wednesday, I'm off to California for a weekend of camping at an amazing music festival with the girlfriend. Basically, as long as I can finish 4 papers and a final exam in the next two days without dying, it'll be awesome. Who's next?
  10. Rock Band / Rock Band 2

Only if you really, really want to play Enter Sandman. Fun on drums, yeah, but not quite as awesome as Flirtin' With Disaster. I remember there are 3 songs that you can't transfer from RB1 to 2, but ES is the only one that's coming to mind. Just rent the RB disc and buy the $5 code to get all the songs on your hard drive. Then you'll be set for however long you decide to rock.
  11. Henry Hatsworth and some other stuff

Uh oh. Just beat the boss of World 2. That romance pirate guy was awesome. I only had a couple of tough bits, and after I upgraded the hell out of Henry there were no more problems. Hopefully those will help me power through World 3 and onto the next bit. The game is so damn charming I can't stay mad at it though. I hope that holds up at least.
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

I'm really skeptical that any series could do a good feature-length whatever so many years after the original aired. Even Dead Like Me, one of my favorite shows in recent years, had a bad time going feature-length, and that only came out a few years after the show was canceled. I know I'm going to catch flak for it here, but I felt similarly about Serenity. There was simply too much to catch people who hadn't recently watched the series up on, and pretty much any show which tries this can't find a balance between getting newcomers up to speed and not boring those who are already familiar with it. I've loved Red Dwarf since being introduced to it back in junior high school, but I'm not even sure if I want to see this given how other series that I've loved have turned out in 90-minute serial form.
  13. Henry Hatsworth and some other stuff

Ok Remo, you win. Hard as shit. Still fun though. Just really, really hard.
  14. Rock Band / Rock Band 2

I suspect as much. Weird as hell, but that's how it goes I guess. As I said, I love my ION set to death. Played for a year on the standard RB set first though, to make sure it would be worth it. As a warning, I went through 3 pedals in that time period. They lasted me an average of 4 months, with the last breaking right before I decided to just get the new kit already. I was being careful too. If you plan on drumming a lot, be ye fairly warned.
  15. Henry Hatsworth and some other stuff

Going to California for the Coachella festival. Ridiculously stoked. Never even seen a palm tree before, and now I get to go out to the desert to watch Leonard Cohen, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amanda Palmer, Morrissey, and tons more I'm forgetting perform. I don't know how prices are on the other side of the Atlantic, but Hatsworth was $30 Canadian to Rhythm Heaven's $35. I'm pretty sure that's just the standard price. First party Nintendo games tend to run $40 or $45, so I considered a $30 one pretty good. If you're lucky, sometimes you can pick up a gem for $15 or $20. Latest bit of awesome was a couple of months ago getting Air Traffic Chaos (looks terrible, but so good) for $15.
  16. Henry Hatsworth and some other stuff

Um... fair enough? Are we talking like, Viewtiful Joe hard? That shit was the only game that ever made me throw a controller, during that last level where you had to fight all of the goddamn impossible bosses in a row on one life. As long as it doesn't reach that level, I should be able to power through eventually. I hope...
  17. Rock Band / Rock Band 2

In order: - Depends. Drums are cheap-ish, but except for the pedal, not bad. - See above, only slightly better. If you don't want to go all-out on an ION kit, maybe just buy a third party metal kick pedal and use the RB1 drums. - Yes. I still use mine. - That really depends. If you don't like the feel of the RB Guitar (I prefer it myself, but many people don't like it) and are willing to shell out for the ION drums, go for it. I love my ION kit to pieces, but it wouldn't be worth it unless you plan on playing drums A LOT. Also, from speaking with you over LIVE, I know that you're fully equipped for singing. Your headset mic is fully compatible, just less fun to use. - Yes, yes you do. As for your final question, about the hassle, undoubtedly. My god, I can't even look at the GH series anymore without cringing.
  18. Grand Thumb Auto XXII: Blixkrieg

    Ahahaha. Great name. In.
  19. GTA Chinatown Wars

Yeah, the driving assist is mentioned in pretty much every review. It does align you with the nearest road when driving. You can turn it off if it bothers you though.
  20. (IGN.com)

"Don't turn around. This game is right behind you..." - IGN.com Haven't done one of these in a while, but I was enjoying the new horror motif.
  21. So yeah, the DSi is out on Sunday in North America and I've preordered one. The fact that my Lite is banged up almost beyond recognition at this point and the promise of downloadable games (the Wiiware and Virtual Console are easily the most played things on my Wii) for the DS has me hooked. I'm excited for the downloadable WarioWare game that they're going to have available day 1, as it's using the camera and WarioWare is the one series I always use to benchmark and justify new tech from Nintendo. The DS hadn't been proven til WarioWare Touched and the Wii until Shake It. Whatever this one is called (Snapped, I think?) it will be how I judge the gaming merits of the DSi's camera. Anyone else considering one? I don't think I've seen any reaction to the DSi at all from the Thumbs community yet, so what are people thinking about it? As I said, if it weren't for the fact that my Lite has taken such a beating of late, I probably wouldn't be in any hurry to upgrade. Is anyone going to be joining me in the latest iteration (rather than generation. I don't really think it's fair to call Nintendo systems "generations" anymore.) of Nintendo portables?
  22. Awesome, but "awful" is spelled without an "e." I don't know why shit like that bugs me so much, but it does.
  23. Hey, someone has to give me a chance to look good.
  24. Yeah, I miss that extra sprinkling of grenades in our races.
