  1. Halo 3 Co-op

Unfortunately, I'm stuck working until early next week. If someone is up for a game on Sunday (probably not, as L4D is then) or Monday though, I'd be in.
  2. Holy shit, I forgot this came out today. Totally buying it right now.

  4. You reference The Outlaw Jose Wales but not The Wild Bunch? If I'm thinking of iconic western scenes involving a mounted gun, that's the one right there. Anyway, I'm another player who's always trying to finish games. I don't really know why, honestly, as it often isn't really worth it, but I keep on doing it. Finally, your talk about Joust 2 has convinced me that there needs to be a song called "Midway 'tween the Fittest and the Blues." I'm actually taking a stab at it myself, but lack any kind of recording equipment/talent. Just a basic 12 bar blues song. The bit I'm proudest of right now (after about 15 minutes of trying to think up stuff) is: "Tried to fight my way through Pewter Gym with a team of six Pikachus I'm midway 'tween the Fittest and the Blues" There's a bunch more too, but honestly it's pretty dumb. Who knows though, I may actually write a thing.
  5. Life

My theater is running a midnight show of Fight Club, and tonight I got to be the one to put the print together. Unfortunately, though I was keeping an eye out, I couldn't find any frames of pornography inserted into places in the film aside from where it was obviously placed as a joke. I had to think long and hard about whether to add a couple of frames myself, as we have a movie with some pretty intense sex scenes right now which would be ripe for the picking. I'll leave the conclusion of my dilemma open, but regardless I'm stoked that we're running a midnight of that. Should be a good time. All told, I'm absolutely loving my job right now, just very happily resolved a fight with the girlfriend, and have booked a trip out of town a couple of weeks from now. Life is good. The only thing that I'm not getting to spend as much time as I'd like on, sadly, is the games. Oh well. Priorities are what they are.
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

Writing this from the theater I work at, but sadly haven't seen any movies lately because I'm too busy getting them onscreen. Still, I've been looking forward to Public Enemies since first seeing the trailer, so I'm going to that no matter what you say, eljay. () Also, it would seem that Moon has finally come to Calgary, so if I can convince the girl to go with me in the next couple of weeks, I hope to be seeing that.
  7. Books, books, books...

On the plus side, this means that I'm going to be reading the Trilogy of Five for the first time since I was about 15. Looks like I've got something to read this summer!
  8. Damn, tonnes of new people and I had to be making up for a fight with my girlfriend. Oh well. At least my relationship is back on good terms. Choked I missed this week's game though. I'll be there next week, promise.
  9. Tales of Monkey Island

Yeah, it usually seems to be a pacing thing. You've usually just done a ton of stuff with the order of execution open to the player and in order to give you a bit of a mental break the designer gives you a puzzle where you have everything you need available to you right in that very room. Also, you forgot about the bit in MI2 where . SoMI's sequence on the boat between islands could be considered a similar thing, as could MI2 and 3's endgames. A few rooms with the puzzle completely centered on what you have immediately available to you. Of course, then every telltale endgame could be considered one of these, etc etc etc. As syntheticgerbil said, good luck finding an adventure game that doesn't have something like this somewhere.
  10. Tales of Monkey Island

Exact same thing happened to me. Only time I had to look for hints, and it kinda pissed me off that I'd solved the puzzle and still had to look up the solution.
  11. Books, books, books...

I don't even think it needs to be said that this may be a bad idea. Everyone is already thinking it, right?
  12. Germans run in very slow motherfucking motion

Yeah, that's incredibly godawful. Not that I really follow major news networks anyway, but I'd have hoped I would at least hear about this somewhere before now. Crazy.
  13. New people: Read this, say hi.

    Awesome! Welcome aboard!
  14. Burnout Paradise online.

I would be down, but unfortunately my copy only runs on Sony hardware.
  15. New people: Read this, say hi.

Yeah, Power Grid is one of the games on regular rotation when I head to my friend's house for Wednesday games night.
  16. Halo 3 Co-op

I don't know about skulls, but I wouldn't mind trying a chapter or two on Legendary. We'll have to figure it out at game time next week, I guess. (if next week is a thing?)
  17. Tales of Monkey Island

Though I don't quite agree with the number, I also think that EG's text is very accurate. I think the graphics were a bit better than they said, but otherwise I agree. For me it actually felt quite a bit like an extension of EMI rather than a callback to an earlier game. Having things like the glassblower, pirate captain who seemed to be in it more for the novelty than a genuine pirate, pirate nightclub, and the action figures really made it seem to continue with EMI's theme of commercializing the pirate lifestyle than the legitimately dirty and scummy (though still a bit modern) pirates of the previous three games. Maybe this is due to the nature of Flotsam Island calming everyone down and things will get dirtier as the series progresses, but that's the vibe I got. As I've said a few times, I liked EMI, so this isn't really a negative for me, but I do see the game making EMI's take on the MI universe more legitimate than it seemed when in comparison to SMI, MI2, and CMI. Still, I'm very much looking forward to what comes next, as I enjoyed episode one immensely. And, dare I speculate, The possibilities!
  18. Tales of Monkey Island

Dunno. Maybe he was caught injecting underage prostitutes into his veins? If so, congratulations on a successful recovery, Steve! We wish you all the best.
  19. Halo 3 Co-op

If you're talking about the AI guys, when you start gunning them down in an elevator, I was actually quite impressed that they started shooting back at you yelling about how you're a traitor. Less impressed when they started shooting at the rest of us and we had to methodically execute all of our allies to survive the ride. If you're talking about Mike, Pete, and myself closing the door of the lift before you could get on and abandoning you in the self-destructing base, on the other hand, the explanation is much more simple. After your first episode in an elevator, I wasn't quite sure if you could be trusted with another ride down. Also, we're jerks.
  20. Bah, if we have learned anything at all from Bioware, it's that the proper answer to that question is "Become a dentist."
  21. Yeah, I've only beaten it once as I *ahem* pirated it *cough* it high school, but I remember it incredibly fondly. Especially the music system being essentially the magic from Zelda but years and years ahead of it. Wonderful game. Have now bought it, all the other adventures, Starfighter (downloaded that too, and enjoyed it, so what the hell) and Armed and Dangerous (own it, but no idea where the disc is, and I really like Planet Moon's games). Played a bit of Last Crusade just now, as it's one of only a couple of LA games I never played (the other being Zak McKraken) and it's pretty sweet. Quit so that I could have a shower before meeting blix, Wrestle, and n0wak for a bit of co-op Halo, but otherwise would probably have played right up until I had to leave for work. I know this game was pre-MI, so a question to those of you who have played it before. Is it still possible to die in this one? If so, how easy is it to screw yourself into an unwinnable game?
  22. Miffy495, Twitter needs you!

Ah. I understand now. Yeah, I should be down for a couple of hours.
  23. You do realize that the Y button only starts you climbing, and pushing it again will make you fall off, yes? If you want to climb faster, tap A. It's like running, but with a ladder. Sincerely, your Canadian tormentor.
  24. There were a few pretty excellent moments in there. I think I like One for All Cops n Crooks more than All for One, actually. Having to kill all of the criminals makes the cop side more exciting, and the criminals get to have a few moments of pure excellence. I'm thinking specifically here of things like my being in a boat with Wrestlevania (ally) and Nevsky (enemy) on the shore and telling Wrestle "just kill him and we'll get out of here." About then, Nevsky guns down Wrestle and I'm forced to high-tail it out of there as fast as I can go. Or when Nevsky, James, and I were the criminals and James insisted on going the long way down to the pier rather than just jumping off the bridge and swimming for it like Nevsky and I did. We got in the boat and patiently waited for him, and then as he was getting on took off and let him fall in the water. Went back for him after, but I was considering just leaving him wet and angry and chuckling to myself about it. Creating your own stories is fun!
