If you have 1000 points to spare, PictoBits and Boxlife are easily the best two things on there. Get them, be happy. Base 10 is also pretty good, but those two are the reason I have some faith in the service to provide awesome things. I think I spent a month doing nothing but play PictoBits, it's that good. Boxlife is just addictive as hell as well. If you already have a DSi, get 'em.

Idle Thumbs 43: Jeff "Gone" Goldblum
miffy495 replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
It's not bad, but I take it in half hour chunks rather than listening to it all at once. Whoever thought that a 2 hour cast was a good length to shoot for, and then go over it every week, was bloody crazy. Then again, I'm always happy when a thumb cast goes over the 1:45 mark, so it may be a quality indicator as well. Still, they're funny enough to keep me coming back, and I do appreciate their inputs. Brad was always one of my favorite Gamespot guys back in the day, so a big part of it for me is him. Back when he was on the thumbcast was one of my favorite episodes. He fit in really well. -

For the record, I have no idea why people find it difficult to tell you guys apart. You all have decently distinct voices. Distinct from each other, at least. Since I started listening to the Giant Bombcast (school starting up means a lot more transit time) I get freaked out every time the Vinny starts speaking because I think that Nick has invaded the Giant Bomb offices. If I listen to you two back to back, I can tell the difference, but there's a lot of similarity there I find. -
Oh god, I thought for a second there Steve was going to compose a Dante's Inferno Haiku. You guys heard it too, right? Right after "Giant angry ladies" there's this pause that had me waiting for the seven syllable follow up. Something like: Giant angry ladies shoot babies from their nipples the sperm floor rises Actually, I think all of those were said by him. Great episode guys, I was in hysterics for most of it.

So I'm not going to be around for a while...

Yeah, it originally said "firehose" but I changed it in the name of good taste. -

I'll be thinking it, but not speaking it aloud, as I curse James for holding me down under a stream from his firetruck. -
The Riddler maps don't just appear, you need to find them. Still, once you have them, they're incredibly useful and you can safely play the game without Detective Vision. I got almost every map on my first run through a given area, so subsequent runs were done in normal mode.

Goddamnit, I don't have the money to buy a new HDD yet. Game, so soon. Bugger. I'm going to have to bite the bullet on this one and check ebay for cheap drives...

I'm interested, I'd say. I love a good co-op, and playing with Thumbs has uniformly been an utter pleasure. I'd plough through some campaign with you if and when I end up grabbing the game, Pete.

Half Life 1 and 2 are so goddamned amazingly different. I've honestly never finished the first one without cheat codes (I was 13, don't judge me too harshly) but have played through 2 about 4 times now. Were I you, I'd just buy the Valve Complete pack or whatever it's called and give the first one a shot. If you don't like it, you've still got 2 and both episodes, all of which are amazing. Half Life is a great game, but is showing its age much more than its sequel has.

I have all of the artsyle games. They're pretty much universally rad, with the only halfway disappointing one being Zengage. Flip Champs kept me interested for a bit, but I stopped playing and haven't felt the urge to go back yet. I really wish they'd put some classic GB games on there already. What they have so far is not a bad catalogue for how long the platform has been around, but with the platform there, why the shit aren't I playing Wario Land 3 yet?

The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!

Ah yes. Also, many episodes featured heavily the guy who did the LittleBigPlanet voice overs. The more you know! -
I'll be grabbing it on PC, but likely not for a while after launch. If anyone is still playing it when I get it, I'd be glad to participate in any thumb goings on. I don't trust playing with strangers...

Ugh. I don't have a gig of free space. Motherfucking MS with their 20GB hard drives and ridiculously expensive upgrades. I really want to try this damn thing.

I concede the point to you in a category error, disallowing for possible worlds in which Donkey Kong may in fact exist (I fucking hate possible worlds...) of course. I believed Wrestle to have taken issue with the formation of words "on like Donkey Kong in a thong," as previous conversations with him have led me to believe that such imagery as in the concept is not beyond the purview of a normal exchange with him. I was hoping to have Wrestle expand upon what it is that strikes him as wrong in that sentence, as it seems perfectly well-formed to me. This could have led to an interesting conversation. Alas, if you, as you say, "take it to pretty clearly mean" one thing which is separate from what I have stated is my intended point of discussion, you are refusing to meet me on common terms and I don't believe we can make any further progress. Wrestle, Groucho, and 'blix, sorry I missed out on a game with you three. That could have been rad. -

I offer no tautology apology. What we have here is a de dicto/de re distinction. Is the phrasing of "on like Donkey Kong in a thong" wrong, or is it Donkey Kong in a thong which is, himself, wrong? My question was regarding the wording, using the thing as a comparison. James, I know that you have a philosophy degree. I'm surprised at you... -
I know nothing of Brutal Legend except for what has been discussed on the podcast and in this thread. I think I may actually pull off a hype evasion this round.

Just want to say, Nick, I also have the Gretsch and Ion Rocker. Don't feel ashamed, they're both fantastic pieces of kit. -

Wrong like Donkey Kong in a thong? -
Man, that hat is great. If I ever decide to bust out a camera, I'll change my profile pic.

Grand Thumb Auto 11111: Let's Make a Thread for This!

Oooh! Thunderpeel is fancy! This may be my last game for a while, as Tuesday afternoons look like the best time for my weekly meeting with my honours supervisor. I'm in for tonight though. -
I'm about 5 hours in myself. The Bowser sections are great, but the fact that the M&L bits are side-scrollers rather than the isometric that the series has always done in the past seems really weird to me. The top screen is bowser play, and it's traditional Mario & Luigi series gameplay (with jump and hammer replaced by punch and breathe fire) but the bottom screen is just a platformer with Mario & Luigi where instead of dealing with enemies in a normal way you get booted to a battle screen. It's like the 2D bits of Super Paper Mario. Feels weird. Still, Fawful is back and the game is fun, so I don't have much to complain about. And the map I'm exploring as Bowser has all sorts of question blocks and areas that you need Bro powers to get to, so maybe in the second half of the game you get a more traditional Mario & Luigi experience? Dunno. Anyway, it's rad. I hope it lives up to your hopes, blix. I know you and I are the two main proponents of the series on the forum, so I'll gladly talk game with you. One warning I have, though: It's even more linear. It's done well, so I don't mind so much, but if that was a complaint with PiT, this is done even more.

You could say "shan't," which is an actual word.

Oh man, Super Mario World. I have beaten that game, played through in its entirety, solely to see that ending again. I don't know where my SNES got to after a move, and I bought and played it on Virtual Console simply because I love that damn ending so much. Thanks for that.

During GTA this afternoon, someone mentioned that there was a demo available for AAAaaaAAAaaaAAAaaaAAA! A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. Intrigued, I checked out the demo later on this evening. After playing through the demo, I purchased the game. It's pretty awesome. Gets rather complex as it goes, too. Between tagging government buildings with profane graffiti, flipping off people who are anti-jumper, giving thumbs up to my supporters, and trying to smash into birds for the point bonuses they deliver, I have a lot on my plate during what should be a simple matter of falling off a building. I had a friend start a Steam chat while I was playing the demo, so now he's hooked too. This shit is excellent. Who else is giving it a go?
