  1. Borderlands

I was rather interested in picking up this game on Steam, but the GiantBomb PC version quicklook shows me that the game uses Gamespy for its matchmaking. In 2009. Really? Anybody playing on PC who can tell me how/if this is impacting your play experience?
  2. Red Faction: Guerilla

It's remarkably fun. I was sold on it the instant I used a charge to embed an enemy soldier in the floor. As in, I blew his corpse across a building and when I went to see it, he was halfway to the floor below. The impact of his landing created a hole in the floor his body was resting in. So awesome.
  3. GTA (-6)^2 It's still happening Miffy

Well, that was excellent. Good of James and Wreslte to grace us with their presence when L4D didn't work, too. I think getting clubbed off of a roof with the tail of an upside-down helicopter may be my favorite GTA moment right now. That was a lot of fun guys, glad I had the day off school for once. Did not disappoint. Now to work out when next I can attend...
  4. Left 4 Thumbs

So why the hell aren't you people in GTA right now?
  5. Brütal Legend overload...!

You just said the magic word! j_FpWzK8-S0
  6. GTA (-6)^2 It's still happening Miffy

It's that North America's DST change doesn't happen until next week. Still, if you folks are doing it at the normal time, I can log on at 3. It's not like it's a huge difference from 2 in the afternoon to 3 in the afternoon if you have the whole day off.
  7. Down in the Zone (S.T.A.L.K.E.R.)

Done. Hell, all I have to do is not buy a lunch this week.
  8. Left 4 Thumbs

Nooo! I can finally make a GTA match on Tuesday! I was really looking forward to it...
  9. Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

Though I was tempted to sign, I could not bring myself to on the grounds that your list of nicknames for the 'casters did not mention the Remo Extremo, which any devoted thumb would surely know and remember fondly. EDIT: Evidence.
  10. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Yeah, they do that at least 4 times over the course of the story, probably more. It really does get predictable.
  11. Forza Motorsport 3

Very true. Though when that will be is yet to be determined.
  12. Left 4 Thumbs

NEWS FOR ALL PREORDER FOLKS: Demo Pre-load is now go! Time to rock the awesome in 3 more days! Next weekend, I should have at least one evening when I can join some frantic awesome times for anyone else who wants to have a spin through it. Hope to see some of you on there.
  13. Red Faction: Guerilla

The game was on sale for some decent percentage off last week on Steam, so I picked it up as it had been talked up on the recent 'casts. Only played a bit past the intro, but really liked what I saw. I'm pretty pumped to go back into it, but want to finish my replay of Psyhconauts and my first serious play of Fallout 3 (with Broken Steel and Point Lookout) before I get into one more game and find myself giving up on all three out of overload. Also, there's that whole "midterms" thing. Still, though it's 3 games deep in my current pile, positive first impressions and looking forward to getting that far down the stack. Anybody else go for the PC version? Does it have decent online that would be worth a go?
  14. Other podcasts

I listened to both regularly. Like, as they came out. Now I'm starting on Gamers With Jobs as my Thumbstitute, preparing myself in advance for a few weeks from now. I've had a few friends recommend it in the past, and figured with an impending hole in my weekly podcast download (currently the Bugle on Sunday, Bombcast on Tuesday, and Thumbs on Wednesday) I'll have room for it. It's not anywhere near as good, but it'll do. Just lacks that spontaneity. I get the feeling that if thumbs tried teleconferencing and took themselves more seriously, this is what it would sound like. Unfortunately, the ability to mock anything and everything and the immediacy of being in the same room are part of what makes thumbs so special, so it can't quite fill the void. Still good though. I may also try RPS for some PC gaming love, as the past few months (and recent purchase of a very good gaming laptop) have got me more into PC gaming than I have been for about 4 years. It's been nice to have some recommendations for that, and the fact that games are cheaper on PC makes me feel like I'm saving money when I play a PC game, which is a good feeling for a student. EDIT: Actually, I don't know if anyone has mentioned the Bugle except for my little parenthetical aside here. I highly recommend it. It's John Oliver (of the Daily Show) and Andy Zaltzman doing a weekly podcast for the Times Online, basically taking the piss out of whatever was newsworthy over the past week. Of particular note is their recent utterly hilarious coverage of general Gaddafi's speech to the UN a few weeks back. I think I heard about it from someone on the forum, (not being in England, not really sure where else I would have heard about it) but maybe not in this thread. I'll just throw it in here for posterity's sake. Seriously, I'm routinely doubled over laughing Monday morning waiting for my bus to class, which is the best time to be doubled over laughing. EDIT EDIT: Dammit, it was Tabacco only a page previously. Oh well. Recommendation seconded.
  15. Left 4 Thumbs

    The "2", obviously.
  16. GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony

Hold on, they're taking out Firetrucks and Mr. Tasty? No nitrous-ice-cream-van? Bullshit on that!
  17. New people: Read this, say hi.

Yeah, that's a sad face. You'll get used to it. Welcome aboard! Stick around and you may discover there's more to us than just a podcast!
  18. Left 4 Thumbs

Damn, that is an excellent trailer. I'm now getting very pumped for this game.
  19. GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony

Wait, what? Why do you now think the multiplayer is going to be awful? That link that you posted includes info on nitrous being added to every car in race AND GTA race, sticky bombs in deathmatch, and the aforementioned free mode additions. Not hugely different, but not really bad by any means. Why the sudden hate, 'blix? I thought you loved games!
  20. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Yeah, I figured it out. By accident, actually. He was running past a thing and I shot it by accident. Seemed to work, so I kept at it. I found the best weapon by far was the FAL. Accurate, 3 round bursts, very high powered. In absence of the FAL, use the M4. The AK is a piece of crap. The Pistole is good, but has almost no ammo anywhere. For those bullet-sponges at the end of the game, go with the crossbow. On easy, it will one-hit them. Insta-kills are nice. I assume that on higher diffiulties it may take more shots, but it is certainly worlds more effective than any other weapon in the game.
  21. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I beat Uncharted twice, and still died about 280 times on my playthrough of Uncharted 2 on Easy. So yeah, it can be a challenge. Never got frustrated by it up until the boss fight though.
  22. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

Point conceded. I will therefor be wearing a towel, otherwise naked, covered in shit, and singing the opening level song from Lumines right up until whoever is in charge of these things gets fed up with me, puts a bullet in my head, and dumps me overboard.
  23. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

Hey now, nothing wrong with nudity. If you're covered in shit on the other hand, you've got some different issues to deal with than just being on your own. When I'm alone, I'll sometimes not bother putting on clothes to walk around the apartment. I will not however walk around covered in shit. You gotta draw the line somewhere.
  24. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

If you were alone on a deserted island for several years, would you wear the same damn outfit you came ashore in for the rest of your life? Hell with that. I assumed the towel was given to me by whomever rescued me, but aside from that concession to decency, I would have long since given up on clothing. Who's gonna shame me when there's no one else around, anyway?
