Quick question: Does your party continue ti gain experience when not traveling with you, or is it possible to end up with a level 20 hero and a level 5 supporting character?
-
Ahahahaha! I really need to start playing this. I only got through the first hour or so before a bug halted my progress. That sounds amazing.

Gdf just fucking nailed it. Get that list. If your friend is into rhythm games at all, you also have no excuse if they do not purchase Rock Band 2. Steer them away from the Guitar Hero franchise, and into the light of Harmonix. EDIT: Also, I'll second twmac's recommendation of Earth Defense Force 2017. Not the greatest game ever, by any means. Hell, not even that good by most means. In terms of an explosion of pure fun and 1950's b-movie joy however, it's amazing. Waiting to hear whether or not an alien race called "The Ravagers" is peaceful is one of the most humourous moments I've experienced in gaming, and it's right there in the first mission. It only gets more awesome.

Idle Thumbs 50: "Farewell, Video Games" or "The Shitty Wizard"
miffy495 replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Over the run of Idle Thumbs, I have purchased the following games based in large part upon their recommendations: - Far Cry 2 - Trine - Torchlight - Dawn of War 2 - Empire: Total War - Civilization 4 - Hitman Blood Money (the PC version when it went on Steam sale. Already owned 360, but didn't like using the pad to play it) - AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! A Reckless Disregard for Gravity - Left 4 Dead (no joke. Probably wouldn't have cared as much without your musings on it.) - Mass Effect (PC version again. Remo's replay made me want to experience it on a PC) - Red Faction Guerrilla - World of Goo - Peggle iPhone (for $1) Granted, most of these were on Steam sales, but still that's a lot of gaming thanks to the thumb. Actually, looking at it, all of these were on PC as well. Go figure. -
The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Totally down with both of those. Just bought a Raincoats CD yesterday while wandering downtown with my girlfriend, actually. No offense to all the electronica fans, but that's not really my style at all. Kroms, looks like we've got pretty similar tastes. The cashier was weird when I was buying the Raincoats. Not just because I had no idea who he was and I'd worked at that very store only 3 months ago. "So, what do these guys play?" "Oh, it's earlier female-fronted sorta-grunge-sorta-lighter-punk stuff. Really good." "Like, riot girl?" "I guess, but about 20 years earlier. They could be riot girl in that I'd say most riot girl bands would call them an influence..." "Cool. Cool. *awkward silence.*" "Welp. Bye!" At least he was trying. -
Happy birthday, Spaff! Late though I am...

Now I just feel bad for neglecting to purchase Dead Space Extraction. I have a Wii, and love rail shooters. I need to get on that. It's probably been discounted already.

If I already have AaaaaAAaaaAAAaa, is getting the rest worth it? I don't really know much about the others except that the demo for Aquaria failed to impress me.

Idle Thumbs 50: "Farewell, Video Games" or "The Shitty Wizard"

I know, right? I keep asking about that stuff, but Chris maintains silence. I really liked Played, too. -
Well, as I was passed out during the game (got home, collapsed, woke up just in time to get to work) I would like to play BoGT at some point. Maybe we could say a Gay Tony match every few weeks, so that I have a chance to try it out?

People are being kinda harsh on EA here. If they're screwed enough to take that big a hit in jobs, they really do need to refocus. The article that I read (not the one posted, I don't know what that one says) had a quote saying they dropped a third of their production schedule, the third that they deemed to have the least potential. As much as that sucks for those specific projects or those specific teams, that still leaves a lot of games for EA to put out. Most of the canceled projects weren't even announced. Who knows what they're still working on and what they dropped. Point is, they're still working on 2/3s of their stuff, and their derivative stuff is less than 2/3s of their output. We're still going to get good games from them, just maybe not quite so risky. Hard to blame them when they got burned so bad. I dunno. We're doubtlessly missing out on some potentially cool stuff because of this, but I completely understand where EA is coming from on this one, and it's not all doom and gloom anyway.

If you're American, I think Gametap has them. It's the reason I signed up in the first place, but then it turned out that they weren't available in Canada for whatever reason.

Oh man. This is San Andreas, GTAIV style. How I've missed you, crazy parachuting. All they need to do is throw in some back country and stunt planes and I'd be the happiest little gamer in the world.

Is it a boycott if you never bought their stuff to begin with? I certainly used to buy Activision games, and even really loved CoD4, but ever since they've become more and more openly dickish, I found I felt a bit dirty when I supported them, the last time being Guitar Hero 3. At that point, I just kinda stopped. Not really a conscious thing, but I'm certainly not going to bother dropping money on their stuff unless/until they pull some kind of "EA Partners" style turnaround and act like they would actually try to balance profitability with a bit of boundary pushing. Only became an intentional thing not to buy their stuff earlier this year, as honestly MW2 and DJ Hero (not my music at all, but the gameplay looks fun) both look like they'd be interesting to me. It came down to "Do I want to buy these games enough to look past how much I don't like the publisher?" My answer was no. I don't hold it against anyone who wants to play the game badly enough. I hate using the word "boycott" to describe what I'm doing. It sounds way too pissed-off-internet-guy for me to feel right saying it. It makes me sound like I'm off writing online petitions and sending checks to DICE because they keep dedicated servers. It's much less angry than that. I guess it is the word for what I'm doing though. Your friend seems to just be staying the course. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't think I'd call it a boycott.

If I'm able to attend, I'm now set for either. I should have the afternoon off, but will have been up incredibly early in order to finish preparing and then give a presentation, followed by having to be at work from 5pm to 2am immediately after. I may in fact be grabbing a nap at GTA time. I don't know enough about Gay Tony's multiplayer to really care either way which we play, but if enough people are curious I'm game for a round or two to see how it is.
-
Yeah, I never got it either. Probably has something to do with my growing up around Toronto and never realizing there was a rivalry until I moved here. For the record, I also cheer for the Oilers over the Flames. I work downtown, and whatever keeps drunken Flames fans quiet keeps me happy.

Idle Thumbs 50: "Farewell, Video Games" or "The Shitty Wizard"

I figured it was a thing like that, but have never cared enough about football to know the specifics. Hell, all of Calgary just did a similar thing a month or so ago when the hockey season started. "We won our first two games! It's a winning streak! We're incredible!" Lost the third game "Where'd our streak go?" Stupid newspapers. Two games is not a streak. -
Man, when it's isolated like that it looks like I'm from a different planet. Weird.

A Tekken a gen throws a member of the Mishima family off of something tall?

Well, Sundays are possibly the worst day of the week for me to game, so I may be persuaded to join a later one if I'm free. No promises, of course, but I'll add you.

Holy crap, another Albertan! Finally I have someone on this forum in the same time zone as I am! Only took 5 years!

If by "boycott" you mean "not buying their stuff because I don't want my money to go to jerks (or at least jerks who are so proud of being jerks)" then I'm with you. If however, you mean "I like to tell other people that they shouldn't buy something they want because I personally disagree with the policies of a company" then no. Given the years of forum interaction I've had with you leading me to believe you're a reasonable and nice person, I'm going to assume it's the first one and agree. I've ignored Activision successfully for about a year now, and having not missed anything essential, intend to continue doing so. I just feel better about myself not giving them money.

I still have yet to understand the horrible reaction some people have to Kotor 2. It wasn't as good sure, and the end game wasn't all the rest of the game had built it up to be, but I still really enjoyed it. Is it that I don't care about the Star Wars license? It that why I'm missing the hatred? I thought it played well and fleshed out some back-story nicely. I can understand not counting it as part of the continuation because it was made by Obsidian and not Bioware, but it certainly wasn't an "abomination." Then again, the only non-internet person I've known who had that reaction to Kotor also used that and how angry that made him as his rationalization for pirating all of Fallout's DLC rather than buying it. "If their ending was so shit why should I pay for more?" if I recall correctly. Maybe the reasons he'd give aren't something I really want to understand.

He's one of the old guard, from back before idlethumbs.net became a talkie. You'd best be respectful. Also, welcome! I hope the name thing does not become confusing.

We'll see. Tuesday afternoons have seemed to be the most convenient time for my honours supervisor to meet with me this term, so whether or not I'm able to make a GTA game has unfortunately been quite dependent upon what time works best for him for our meeting. I've lucked out the last two weeks, but will have to wait and see for this one.
