  1. Majesty 2

Goddamn, I just can't stop playing. It's 4:30 in the morning on Christmas eve and I'm sitting up playing Majesty 2 on my laptop at the parents' house. It's too damned addictive. I actually went back and bought Majesty 1 when I saw it was $5 on the current Steam sale. It has Warcraft 2 graphics and interface (despite being made in 2001!) but under all the archaic trappings a pretty good game seems to exist. I just beat the last of the Advanced difficulty missions. 5 Expert ones left to go. Shit, I don't think I've ever been this addicted to a strategy game. The last reigning champion was Heroes of Might and Magic 3, but even that I didn't get that much time with.
  2. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, all. May you get a sweet game or two in your stockings. Or, if you are stockingless, exploit the religious institutions of our society by getting some good games cheap on boxing day!
  3. Steam ruined my life

Woo! Serious Sam HD is $10 today! Done and done.
  4. Merry Christmas!

When I got into work tonight, I found a note on the desk in the projection booth. "Dear Peter: Please enjoy this case of energy drink. Also, I had my elves arrange a raise for you. Starting on the 28th, your pay will go up a dollar an hour. Merry Christmas! - Santa" I freaking love my boss sometimes. This is so much better than dealing with holiday crowds at HMV like I was last year.
  5. Steam ruined my life

It was on sale Black Friday-ish as well, so I picked it up then. Haven't checked it out yet, so I wasn't sure. Is Butcher Bay confirmed in the PCDL version? I freaking loved that game. I bought Penumbra today, because I'd been meaning to check it out for a while. Excited!
  6. Beatles: Rock Band

Sorry, I'm a George man, so I only have the Gretsch. I highly recommend it though. The Rickenbacker looked a bit too bulky to be comfortable playing for long sessions, and my Gretsch is perfectly sized. I loves that little guitar. Get it, get the game, then buy the three available album downloads. I think you can play online too, so I'd be happy to help you rack up a ton of points if you're online.
  7. Life

I read it that way too. Thanks for clearing that up.
  8. Christmas arrived early this morning!

My money is only as dirty as you request it to be.
  9. goty.cx 2009?

I'm not saying it's anywhere near as good, but that's obviously what they wanted...
  10. goty.cx 2009?

Yeah, Dragon Age is the good one. Ninja Blade was just a QTE filled Ninja Gaiden ripoff mess of a game. I was glad to see that inFamous got it though. Off all of their nominees, it's the one I'd most like to see continued.
  11. Christmas arrived early this morning!

This morning, there was a non-descript brown parcel in my mailbox addressed to a "Mr. Miffy." I'm really glad that I was the one who went to get the mail. Thank you sir! And on the first postage day after my birthday, too! The timing was perfect. I know I've asked this already, but you're mailing things from Norway to Canada. That's a long way. Are you sure you don't want me to send you some postage money through paypal or something?
  12. Life

If I am to believe what the television tells me, standard procedure is to have babies, wait about 15 years, have an affair, get a really flashy car, and drive it into a cliffside while on a crazy mid-life crisis fueled bender. Instead, I would personally recommend enjoying your time with your new wife, wasting a bit of money on something nice for yourselves, and then going back to whatever it was you were doing that lead you to your current position. Hell, if it got you this far, you must be doing something right. Congratulations! Glad the family drama you were talking about didn't get in the way too much.
  13. goty.cx 2009?

Are you talking about Ninja Blade or Dragon Age? Both are entirely derivative, one is actually good, and the other is not. Quality and originality are different things though, so I think both are open to your criticism. ...ugh. And Dragon Age has 43% of the votes for the community choice award.
  14. ファイナルファンタジーXIII

Was VI the last time you played a Final Fantasy? I ask because the "crazy directed experience for many hours" thing seems to have been a staple since the series went 3D as far as I can tell. I've only played bits of VII and VIII for the 3D ones, but you pretty much just described them in your thing about XIII.
  15. Red Dead Redemption

    IN HELL!
  16. Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday, Patters! ...Fuck you, Patters.
  17. Tales of Monkey Island

Man, after finishing Tales, I decided it was time for a Sam and Max replay, so I started back at the beginning of Season One. They're still good, but with 19 (holy shit. I just counted that for the first time...) episodes released since the end of Bright Side of the Moon, the difference in quality from their latest game to Culture Shock is huge. I beat all Telltale games in one sitting, pretty much on principle. I'm finding it much easier with these earlier ones. They're so much more simplistic. It's hard to articulate exactly what it is, but if pressed I'd say it's something like they're so much less sure of themselves. The games feel tentative. Like a quiet outcast kid speaking up in class for the first time when noone else knows the answer. Almost as if the game is simultaneously doing something rad and asking your forgiveness/permission for it. Beat Situation: Comedy last night, and if I get my paper done quickly enough today, will hit up The Mole, The Mob, and The Meatball today. My intention is to get through all 11 episodes of Sam and Max before school starts up again in mid-January. So far, it's been a really interesting experience. Sorry this is so off-topic, but this seems to be the place where Telltale is discussed now and it didn't seem like a thing that would warrant its own thread.
  18. My first opportunity would be the first week of January, as either way I plan to have the game by then. Also, I'll be home again then, being out of town from boxing day until New Year's. Whatever happens, I'll try to keep up on it.
  19. San Francisco

Just got your Gog download gifts, eh? I've been meaning to try these forever, so I'm looking forward to going through them.
  20. Maybe, but I'm not sure if that would make the headline better or worse.
  21. Red Dead Redemption

Obviously the whole Fallout thing was just a reactionary oversimplification on the part of forum goers of the "no mutants allowed" variety. Fallout 3 is not Oblivion with guns, it is Oblivion with guns and without horses. Red Dead Redemption is something of the missing link which will illuminate the evolutionary chain from Oblivion to Fallout 3.
  22. Red Dead Redemption

Not if you leave the guns in.
  23. Life

Is this a byproduct of the new girl? Usually when people say "take an interest in her hobbies" they don't quite mean "get a guy to stab you." Glad you seem to be enjoying it though. It does sound kind of cool.
  24. goty.cx 2009?

Just downloaded the Rubber Soul pack for Beatles Rock Band and played "In My Life" a few times. Goddamn. That game may end up actually being my goty. So fucking good.
  25. Samarost 2 in Russia!

I believe he was more interested in the box set than the game by itself. Bonus stuff is a harsh mistress.
