Well, it has to do with the context of the offensive material as well. Knowing that Orson Scott Card is homophobic didn't worry me as much with respect to the game that he worked on as he didn't design the game around how horrible the sodomites are or have a stereotyped gay character mincing around and putting Card's biases on display. On the other hand, Kamiya's apparently pretty messed up views on women went heavily into the design of the character and her style. I do think it's a pretty significant difference in the design philosophy of the game. I know that Card is a conservative who isn't comfortable with gay people, but I also appreciate that he kept that separate from his work on that game. Maybe not from his books, but after reading Ender's Game in high school I haven't opened up anything else that he's written, so I don't know. Reading the sexist things that Kamiya said and then seeing how much they really did inform what he produced is more unsettling to me. For what it's worth though, I never have played Shadow Complex. Not for the same reasons, but there you have it.

Yeah, I've rolled myself a few times. Seems to just come with the territory. Sorry I didn't make it. My girlfriend had a free period and we ended up going for lunch, so I didn't make it home between classes. Next week!
  3. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Yeah, that was the thing I noticed first. Priceless reaction from her.
  4. Yeah, I had a lot of fun with today's game. I always like it when we get enough people that we won't all fit in a Live Party. Some truly ridiculous moments today, most of them with Jon as my primary antagonist (bastard) and always in hilarious ways. Last week's was sorta dry, but this was a definite high point. Also, welcome aboard F4T C4T, hope to see more of you.
  5. Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday to both! I guess this excuses Marek's absence from GTA tonight...
  6. Fucking PC gaming!

Huh, I didn't know that Flynn's actor was also in Dragon Age, cool. With Nolan North being in everything and Claudia Black picking up steam, I didn't realize the talent pool for game voice acting was so shallow. Or at least, that the Uncharted cast was so sought after.
  7. Formula Thumb

    Man, I'm a total trendsetter!
  8. Assassin's Creed II

I have no idea what to do with the messenger. I think if you kill him you get full notoriety, but if you tackle him you get an achievement or something. I dunno. I thought the multiplayer was part of a different game they were planning for this year? Like, an expansion of Ezio's story, but a retail one or something? That's what I'd gathered from the blogs, anyway. I didn't think they were adding it as DLC...
  9. Red Faction: Guerilla

Yeah, when I play it I've switched from hunching over the coffee table with my laptop keyboad and mouse to lying in bed with my laptop next to me playing with my 360 wired pad. It's pretty excellent in this setting. Especially with headphones on.
  10. Assassin's Creed II

Ahaha! I completely understand what you mean. That's the best way to put it I think I've ever seen. Well done. I don't think you get any feather-radar. At least, I didn't, and I had all weapons and non-feather items by the time I finished the game. I think by end-game I had about 28 or 29 feathers, also all found completely by accident. I'm really not motivated to go back and get more now. I may do so when the DLC comes out to fill in those two missing DNA sequences, but I'm with you on the corpse thing and don't want to head back in without any new content. All you really get for it is a new cape and a couple of achievements (one for actually finding the feathers, one for parading the cape around) so I can't be arsed to go through with it right now.

Exams? In January? How different is the british university system? Last day for exams for me was December 21st. Anyway, I'm still in.
  12. Serious Sam HD

It's not bad. You have to be in the mood for it, but I've certainly spent some sober time with it and enjoyed that.

EDIT: Yeah, canceled the order. As incredibly fun as the demo was, seeing some of Kamiya's quotes about the character design turned me off it again. I get that in the context of the game it doesn't really come through (demo proved that to me) but seeing the design philosophy of the character made me think I'm still not that cool with the sexism whether it's apparent in the gameplay or not.
  14. Irrational is back!

Whoo! ..Ok, so I know it's just a name change and probably doesn't mean much. In my mind though, this puts us one step closer to Freedom Force 3. After all, you can't have Freedom Force without Irrational Games.
  15. Beyond Good & Evil 2

I believe the thread is "beyond better and evil" EDIT: Yup. Found it. (Via benchguys.org!)
  16. Life

Aw, you got married on my birthday. Coincidences are fun! The actual photo is really cute too. Congrats!
  17. Life

I like the Mickey Mouse gloves you gave her. Nice touch.
  18. Far Cry 2

Also, people were saying they were thinking of bestowing that title upon it a couple of posts above mine. To answer your question, my first game ending bug occurred on my desktop PC. My second happened when trying again on my laptop. The fact that I've tried it on two different hardware configurations contributes to my theory that the game hates me personally.
  19. New people: Read this, say hi.

Well it's only an issue because you're always On The Wing.
  20. Formula Thumb

Good game all around. Well played, everybody. I had some incredible moments of triumph, some hideous crashes, and very few Did Not Finish races. Hooray!
  21. New people: Read this, say hi.

Oh being a dick is almost a requirement. The idea is that we've been talking long enough to know that it's all in good fun. No one will resent you for joining in at this point though, as long as you don't sound serious about it.
  22. Far Cry 2

I both respect that sentiment and think it makes me hate the game for it. Mostly because it seems so dead set against me actually playing it. I swore that I would give Far Cry 2 another go after the last time when a bug ended my game 2 hours in. This time, I played through the tutorial and, upon arriving at the house with the dude who gives you your first mission, discovered that I could not move. Like, could walk a step, but then would get caught on some invisible piece of geometry. I tried walking around it, but aside from going straight ahead there were only walls. I tried jumping over whatever the hell it was, but apparently it's invisible height was too great for that. So I saved and quit. Reloaded the game, still stuck. I cannot move from the spot where my character is standing. I can only conclude that this game hates me and does not want me to play it. The fact that people whose opinions I greatly respect call it potentially the greatest game of all time makes me hate it for not letting me play it. Fucking game.
  23. New people: Read this, say hi.

That, and quite a few of us had been talking on the Thumb for years before deciding to set up any kind of games. It helps to have a grip on someone's (internet) personality before jumping in.
  24. Heavy Rain

The Euro cover looks like it could be a book cover. The US looks like it could be any other game. Not horrible, but very . I'll admit I'm interested in the game itself. Personally I only ever played the first third of Indigo Prophecy, so I quite enjoyed it. I'm not about to jump to Cage's defense though, as I remain sceptical of the game's quality.
  25. Formula Thumb

What's even better is that I managed to get the PI to 609, making her an S Class, but then she'd be ineligible for the series that I wanted to race in.
