A new multiplayer game (for the times when left for lobby gets too much)
miffy495 replied to Armchair General's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Don't forget the guy who got pulled out of retirement, forever adding his surly "Why'd I get back into this shit?" attitude to the mix. -
I'd be down for some of the board game ports they've done. Catan, Ticket To Ride (I'd need to buy this, but play the board game all the time and love it), Carcassonne, etc. Much deeper strategy than that and I start to get intimidated, but I'd be up for a go now and then.

As part of my end-of-the-school-year horrible procrastination effort, I fired up Dragon Age for the first time last night. I decided on a female city elf warrior who specializes in dual wield. Did not expect the opener that I got. I'm now doing the Grey Warden initiation, so by no means very far in, but I wanted to start up some discussion again so that I could talk about the game as I worked my way through. At this point, just wanted to say: holy hell, that was an unexpectedly intense start to a game. Well done, BioWare.

I'm at about 15 hours now. Only halfway through the story missions. It's equally likely when I start this game up that I'll go looking for a place to blow up as it is that I'll actually do a mission. Is it necessary to do all the faction missions to get through the game? I've done a lot of Reaper missions, but only three Ular, for example.

Grand Thumb Auto 55: The Awesome Rocket Trick
miffy495 replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I don't recall anything particularly terrible. Everyone will usually drop at least a couple of duds. Sorry about all the connection troubles during the game. It took us like an hour to sort that crap out. Ridiculous. -
I didn't find the boss battle bad at all. Waiting for your retraction...

It's been running fine on my laptop the couple of times I've played it, but on my desktop the whole thing just goes into glitchy-visual land and every icon looks like a MissingNo from Pokemon. I'm glad one of my machines can run it, anyway.

I liked the first one well enough to finish it and buy the second. Have never actually fired up Episode 2 though, as it just got overwhelmed with higher-profile games when it came out. I should really do that.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 4: Super Expert Pro
miffy495 replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah, as Jake said, WaChe was from before the announcement of the Wii name. Everyone was talking all the time about the "Nintendo Revolution" and when the old thumb wrote an article on it, that was the image that accompanied it on the main page. It was just a sweet visual pun that stopped making sense when Nintendo actually named their console. This was why I wore it to the Wii launch. Seemed like that would be one of the last times people would actually get what the hell it was making fun of. -
Sorry. I was only trying to say that I'd seen it and knew the idea, but still wasn't sure about it.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 4: Super Expert Pro

The AT-ATs have been replaced with Big Dogs. -
Giant Bomb had a quick look EX (meaning: with the developers) of it a while back. I remember finding the game pretty intriguing, but then forgot about it. How much is it running for?

Oh god, the dialogue is fantastic. I can no longer remember any specific quotes, there's just so many. It's the best action movie that revels in its bullshit. It's the cheesiest names for the most boilerplate characters. It just takes so much joy from realizing that it only needs to be as good as its explosions, and fuck everything else. I love how goddamn ridiculous this game is. The in game clock says I've played more than 12 hours since Tuesday. Crazy (and pretty irresponsible on my part), but such a great game I can believe it.

Very true. Thanks to the fact that I'm usually have Steam running while I'm doing my homework, I probably talk to Patters more than most of my real world friends at this point. Due to mounds upon mounds of homework, I don't get out of the house nearly as much as I'd like to, and the Thumbs multiplayer sessions have provided most of my social interactions (aside from time spent with the girl) for the past couple of months. Excellent people play these things. If it weren't for GTA and Forza, I may have been a complete hermit at this point. That said, I'd never expect to make a friend from a quick match of any game. And certainly nothing romantic, aside from James taking me for an occasional "trip to the park" during a GTA race.

I'd be tentatively in, but have no idea how to play or even what the game modes really are. The whole idea with what was being talked about in the life thread was that we seemed to have found 4 or 5 people who had the game but had never fired it up (I got it in the Orange Box, then proceeded to forget I owned it) and could thus learn together. Any game I'd join in on would, for the first while at least, be me trying to learn the game, and I'm wary of getting frustrated playing with and being constantly slaughtered by those who (as Jon says) have had periods where they play it daily. Long story short, I'd like to give this game a try as it's hugely acclaimed and I already own it, but I'd prefer to play with the inexperienced so I could actually get a feel for what it would be like to compete.

I saw them with Caribou. Maybe it was the venue, maybe it was that they didn't gel that well with what I had come to see, but they didn't do anything for me. That video you posted was much better than I remember though, so I may need to revise my opinion of them a bit.

Thus my thing about the Razer Orochi a few posts back that seemed to resurrect this thread. I wanted a laptop/gaming mouse, not to have to choose. It really is great. On my desktop I'm still using my trusty Logitech MX1000, which has been going great for about 5 years now with no signs of stopping. If you're looking for a decent wireless mouse, that's a great one to pick up. I believe back on page 1 there was bunch of support for it. Now that I've fallen for the Orochi, I'm tempted to get a DeathAdder, but I just don't need to until this MX1000 craps out on me, which may not be for a long while yet.

It took me three tries to get through the tutorial...

All I can see when I look at your first spam email is that if you take the name "Hong Wu" and change around the first letters of each name, you get a baddy from Final Fight...

I missed 3. Although I think I should have gotten the Paper Mario one for putting in "Paper Mario GCN." Couldn't remember the full subtitle. Grah.

Oh shit, I've only played an hour of TF2 in my life as well. I figured finding other noobs at this point was a lost cause. Anyone for total rookie sessions where we all just suck out loud?

I love how viable just opening your parachute and pulling yourself along using the scenery is as a mode of travel. I can't wait to get back into that game. Damn.

Sonic 2 and Wii Fit. The circumstances were very different for these occurrences.

I would recommend going online and finding those lion statues that are in the game. If you find both, you get two bonus missions. One of these missions involves stealing a tank and going on a rampage. Awesome.
