Grand Thumb Auto LVI: Cousin Roman Numerals
miffy495 replied to Action Shakespeare's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Yeah, I try to leave it as open as possible. -
Sorry man, I'm pretty much just a normal dude.

Damn, I wish I'd read that about 20 minutes ago. I finished off the Ular missions and decided to do the 6th agency mission. Thing is, I still have a ton of missions to do for the other factions, so when I saw that I'd have to choose a favorite and then go straight to the endgame, I got pissed off and quit. Thing is, I was relying on the autosaves, so I hadn't actually saved my game since starting up. There goes an evening of play.

I'm a projectionist at a restoration theater. That's the booth.

OOOH! That does sound fun. I kind of want to beat the game first before using that, but I'll definitely install it for some extra fucking around once the story mode is over. Oh, dpp, I have 30% completion right now and have finished 5 of the agency missions. I think there are 7 or 8 of those things? My final completion rating will probably be scary high for you if 28% is your endgame standard...

Meh, I got a bunch of work done. Sorry again I couldn't make it, but if it makes you feel any better in a few weeks I won't have school to worry about any more. -
Ok, fine. Only because I happened to be wearing Wache at work today though. Miffy at the office, photo courtesy of a coworker: Man, that angle really makes it look like I don't have a neck. There's one there, I promise.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
miffy495 replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
I suspect from time to time that that's the main reason a lot of people like them. Some kind of misplaced patriotism telling people that they have a duty to pretend to like mediocre music because "DAMMIT, it's CANADIAN!" Also, I find Emily Haines to be irritating as all hell, so can't get into Metric, and Feist is always trying so damn hard to be cutesy that it feels like when one of her tracks comes on she's beating you over the head screaming "Don't you understand? I'm QUIRKY! LOVE ME!" I think I'm just not able to get into that scene. I've tried to listen to all of these bands, mostly because a lot of my friends (particularly from High School) were really into them, but ended up disliking them for the same reason I disliked Juno. It's trying so hard to be different and eccentric that it forgets that underneath all that you still need to have talent. -

I too must tap out of this week's festivities. I've got about 4 projects due before this time next week, so I need to focus a bit. Sorry for the late notice. -
I go crackers over it, but the only team I actively hate is the team of the city I live in. Fuck the Calgary Flames. Seriously. It's not really that I hate the team as much as that I'm so much happier when the fans shut the fuck up. Being from the Toronto area before moving here, I'm still a fan of the Maple Leafs that I grew up with. Luckily it turned out that my coworkers are either also transplanted Torontonians who still stick by the Leafs (despite the fact that they're last place in their division this year. Sigh), or don't care about hockey at all. I can revel in my hockey fandom at work and feel perfectly great about it. As for life stuff, I just finished a 38 page draft of my honours thesis! Graduation has never felt closer! I've been stressing so damn hard the last few weeks trying to combine months of disparate writing into a coherent draft, and I think I got one. Yay!

In Calgary, every downtown building is legally required to have a hitching post. Fear my backwards cowboy city!

Yeah. Specifically somewhere around the "m" in "moose" on that first map.

CANADA. Come to CANADA. ...oh who am I kidding?
-
You have no idea how surprised I am he's coming to Calgary. Oh, and the Buzzcocks will be in town a week later. Their set will be the complete tracklists of "Another Music in a Different Kitchen" and "Love Bites." Also have tickets for that. May is going to be the best month.

Don't mind him, his shift key got stuck.

I liked Half Minute Hero quite a lot. I played through all modes, and found the writing to be very charming, the gameplay to be interesting, and the overall experience to be well worth the money I paid for it. I remember talking to Wrestlevania about it, and he seemed to not have liked it at all. If I recall correctly though, he was playing a Japanese import. If I'm right, and assuming that said import was not in English, he would have been missing out on a good portion of the charm however. It's a great little send-up of the traditional RPG, and manages to present a good set of adventure/puzzles that never get frustrating but always keep you on your toes. I would recommend it.

It's pretty much just Pokemon and Sonic for her. She gets motion sick very quickly with anything 3d. The Virtual Console is great because we can play all sorts of older SNES and Genesis games, and so the Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Final Fight series have also become mainstays, but that's about it. Consoles after 1996 kind of made themselves impossible for her to enjoy with all their "hey! Let's make every damn thing 3D now!" But damn, she freaking LOVES pokemon. Like, two years ago she went as a pikachu for halloween. I put together a pokemon trainer costume to match, and we convinced a friend to be a psyduck. That was an awesome party. EDIT: And no, I do not, in fact, liek mudkips. It just kind of feels like after the Gold/Silver batch, they stopped trying to make interesting pokemon. There are a few good ones in each batch (I have a piplup sitting on my desk in front of me. Love that dude.) but for the most part they just feel half-assed now. EDIT EDIT: Proof of desk piplup:

If you don't feel like playing adventure games, I don't know if I can help you much. They are very much adventure games. They play wonderfully, have creative and funny puzzles, and each one fits beautifully into the universe it's meant to. Wallace and Gromit in particular just felt so much in the spirit of the shorts that I couldn't stop grinning the entire time. Still, though they are great adventure games, they're still adventure games. Nothing I can tell you will change that. If it helps, they're pretty much the only adventure games I play any more. They definitely feel like they've evolved the genre a bit from their contemporaries, who are still stuck in the mid-90s. It's not really anything specific, but more a general feeling. I hope that you liked Monkey Island, and if so maybe this cheap Wallace and Gromit deal is a good chance to get in on it and see what you think of their other series.

I just bought tickets to see Eddie Izzard live! Woo!

Re: Wallace & Gromit: There's this thread. My opinions in short: Bloody excellent. It definitely helps to be a fan of the animated shorts already, but may not be necessary. Keep in mind, I played it on PC, not XBLA, but I absolutely loved what I played. Got sidetracked by Monkey Island before I played Episode 4 (I really should play that, come to think of it) but I can vouch for the quality of the first 3 with no hesitation. Grab that game.

I ordered Soul Silver yesterday, and my girlfriend is really excited for us to play it together. So much so that we spent most of the day today playing Pokemon Snap on the Virtual Console in anticipation. She did ask me one thing about it that I am unqualified to answer though, so I'll put it to you folks. The pokemon in this game, are they the set from the original Gold/Silver, or have they added in all the newer, crappier pokemon from the later games?

If you look at Aliens as a horror movie, I agree, it's crap. As a straight-up action movie it is pretty good though. Really, which one I watch depends on my mood. Objectively, Alien is by far the better picture, but sometimes I feel more like watching the sequel. Not nearly as scary though. One damn alien can bring down the crew of the ship in the first, but in the second they're gunning them down like generic orange-suited henchmen in a Bond film. A good action movie, but nowhere near the achievement of the first film.

I have Catan and Worms, so those are fine. I'm probably going to wait a while before getting Greed Corp, so you and 'blix can have your goes at that for a while before I drop the cash, I guess.

A new multiplayer game (for the times when left for lobby gets too much)

Fun fact: My intramural soccer team was name "Sexual Tyrannosaurus FC" after that quote.
