I wouldn't mind a "have Max say something helpful now" button instead of a slider, actually. That's a pretty good idea. I liked in the first season how you could just talk to him and ask "So, what should we do now?" and he would do just that. If I could just have that again and keep the hint slider at 0, I'd be very happy. As it turns out though, the hint slider seems to have replaced the "ask Max for help" thing. Oh well.

Well, in fairness, the original Zelda game's story was pretty much just "Evil wizard stole a magic thing and a princess. Recover the magic thing and save princess." 3D Dot Game Heroes has "A bad wizardy-priest man is attempting to resurrect some ancient evil and the princess has gone off on her own to bring him down. We haven't heard from her for a while, so could you look into this shit for us? Also, you decended from the guy who brought down this ancient evil in the first place, so it'd be kinda neat if you could step in now." Not that different, granted, but in that respect Okami (which was praised all to hell as a different franchise taking on 3D Zelda) was just "Moron awakened ancient evil. Go through all these temples and learn new spells to seal it up again." 3D Dot Game Heroes' story is actually closer to Okami's than to the old Zelda games. Not innovative maybe, but also not just the same story. It's at least as much of a derivation as most games are from others in their genre.

I'm allergic to only one thing. Chalk dust. If I'm in a classroom with a whiteboard, my head is not swimming in grogginess. It's a plus.
-
Yeah, I did too. They did fix continuity though. It's subtle, but it's there.

A coworker bought it on the weekend and has finished it already. On the one hand, that's sorta dumb. On the other, he's offered to lend it to me, so I may get to play it for free in a week or so. For free, I'll definitely give it a shot.

That is all.

Happy birthday, TP! I'm hosting a birthday party for a real life friend at the theater tonight, and if by some fluke of luck you're anywhere near Calgary, drop in for some alcohol and a screening of Daft Punk's anime movie! I know you're likely not, and more likely than anything else in England, but it's only polite to invite.

Congratulations! I'm sure it's better than you thought it was at the point of handing it in. Everyone thinks their own work is at least a bit shit, no matter how good it actually is, unless they're a jerk.

Me too. Not for my purposes, really, but for the fact that lending games to my friends is something I do incredibly awesome. Hell, just last night I was talking to a friend and said of Just Cause 2 "I'd lend it to you right now, but my copy is on Steam." Whups. I know going in to a Steam purchase that that's part of it, and I consider the reduced PC price to make up for that a bit. Now that PC games are creeping towards $60 while losing features though (seriously, fuck you Activision and UbiSoft. I'm not paying that for the same reason I don't buy 360 games for $70) that advantage is going away. PC gaming is $20 cheaper than console gaming if you're Canadian, so I don't mind losing the ability to lend out my game when I'm done for that difference in price. If they reach parity though, I'll go with console for as long as I'm able to lend those. After that, I'll be a lot more reluctant to buy a game at full price.

As alluded to, I also I really wish there had been more to flag it, as it's one of the only complaints I have with the game (aside from controls, which I'm unfortunately starting to accept will just irritate me and feel slightly broken in every Telltale game from now on) and the fact that it's in the final puzzle taints the experience a little.

Yeah that last reel was a bitch. There's an item interaction you may be missing that it took me fucking forever to find. Mildly spoiler-ish hint to follow:

Finally finished Just Cause 2. Lots and lots of fun. Actually had a surprisingly good endgame. I really liked this game. I put in around 30 hours all told (official stats: 28.25 hours, 41.62% completion), and with my attention span, a game has to be pretty damn decent to pull me all the way through for that long. I feel like this may be one of the really good games this year that just gets overlooked. I don't remember much talk about it after a week or so past release. Get this game if you don't have it yet, it's amazingly fun. Also, putting a section in your credits for people that worked on the game but left the company before it went gold? Fucking classy.

I doubted myself more than anything else. No confidence going in. All I can say for reassurance is, if your supervisor thinks you're going to be ready, you're ready. They've done this before and know their shit. The best possible sign you can have is that your supervisor isn't dropping hints about getting an extension. If they're behind you, you're ready, no matter what you may think of it yourself.

DO IT! Getting that shit done is the best feeling in the world. I'm a month out from mine and I'm still riding the buzz. Good luck man, the last day of writing was the hardest for me, but also made me more proud than anything else I'd ever done. I assume that fatherhood will someday feel like more of an accomplishment, but for a 22 year old, this is the one. All the best to you, and knock that shit out of the park.

I'd be up for it still, though I need to clear out a bunch of space on my laptop for the install. That's the problem with having a dual HDD system. I have plenty of space on my computer, but the drive with Steam is pretty much used exclusively for Steam games and is almost always full.

Definitely get a Fiat Abarth 500. That's the Formula Thumb car. Get it, tweak it, and paint it. Otherwise, just try to have something worth driving in each class, and then make it as hideous as you like. If you want to do some goofy shit, getting an "F in the A" car is a must. I've got my Yaris, Patters has a VW Golf, etc. Just take any car from the F class (your XD would work [i think] for example) and upgrade it until it's an A class car. Usually we try to race in every class and have a few favorite tracks. I'd recommend getting something with All Wheel Drive in as many classes as you can as well, for races like that damn cobblestone one that I can't remember the name of. Or, y'know, buy some trucks and trick them out. I'm sure if you want to do the derby thing, it'll serve you well.

360. Join in if you've got it. Always welcoming new folks.

I had to pay $35 to rent a stupid gown for mine! I don't know why I keep going to these ceremonies. My grandmother flies in, so I guess I have to, but I really would be a lot happier if they'd just mailed me my high school diploma, and I'm feeling the same way about my bachelor's degree now.

And finished. That was pretty damn rad. I got sorta stumped twice, but eventually fumbled my way through. Awesome to see early versions of in the episode. The only complaint that I really have about the whole thing is again due to the controls. Especially during the In the Tomb reel, Sam would often not even seem to try to go the direction I was telling him to. I'd be holding W to try to get him to walk forwards and he'd be shuffling along to the right or something stupid like that. It was most noticeable when going around the . Also, damn the cliffhangers this season. I guess after (ToMI spoiler) Telltale has really got a taste for ending the episodes with a flourish of suspense. I'm starting to wish I didn't play these games the day that they come out so that I'd have less time to wait between episodes.

I'm absolutely loving this episode. The use of film reels to break up the structure is brilliant and it's an insanely creative episode. The plan is to beat the game before sleeping tonight. Man, Telltale, never fucking change. This season is a thing of beauty.
-
Shit dude, sorry to hear that. Glad to see you seem to be coping fairly well.
-
That's weird. No notification email, but I'm downloading the episode right now from Telltale's website, so I guess it's available. Either way, I've got it in time, so I'm plenty happy. Will start playing during downtime at work tonight! Whoo!
-
Yeah, me as well. That article made me sad. The hope is that because it's from a year ago that the game has changed a bit for the better since?

"No Toblix, this is where the trains go..."

Is there a time that this is set to come out? I'd really like to get it on my laptop before leaving for work tonight...
