  1. Dragon Age

Looks like I'm almost done Awakenings already. Enjoying it a lot still, but definitely feel like I'm coming to the end of my time with this game, at least for a year or so. I'd like to play again some time as a Mage, just to see how different it is from the Warrior, but I'm fine with that time being a while from now. Hit the new level cap pretty fast, it feels like, and there's pretty much not a single enemy that gives me pause anymore. It's a bit sad, as I got my ass kicked a lot in the game proper. The expansion just doesn't pose the same challenge. Still, a good expansion to a great game. Oh, and I still have that stupid tattoo.
  2. Wizaaaaaards!!

I really hope that the bit that is covered by the glare read "Ultima," because that is how I read it.
  3. Dragon Age

Didn't stop me from putting in about 4 and a half hours yesterday. It's not like you see your character's face much anyway.
  4. Monkey Island 2: SE

Yeah, really all I meant was I really wanted a re-release of DoTT. I don't care so much about an SE of it. If they did, I hope all they'd do would be to up-rez pretty much everything in the game but not actually change it that much. I just want to finally play that game to see why it's so revered. It's the only LucasArts adventure that I've never played. It's just never been available to me legally so I haven't gotten to try it.
  5. Dragon Age

That's the one. I may get a shot of my own later, but if I don't, picture an elf woman with short, blonde hair with that across her face.
  6. Dragon Age

Just started playing Awakenings. So far, more Dragon Age, which is exactly what I wanted. What I didn't want however, is the glitch that has it so that my (never once tattooed) imported character has a giant "LEGACY TATTOO ASSET: DO NOT USE!!" scrawled across her forehead. Awesome. I can sort of ignore it as it doesn't hurt gameplay at all, but how has this not been patched out so many months after release?
  7. New people: Read this, say hi.

You need a post count of at least 10 to make a new thread. Cuts down on spam.
  8. Monkey Island 2: SE

Sat down with it and cleared the whole game. It's really good. I probably would have got the "under 3 hours" achievement if it hadn't been for the developer commentary. May go through it again next week to get it, as the only achievements I didn't get were "let Guybrush die" and "beat it in under 3 hours." I was so close, too. I wish they'd done more with the commentary, but what is there is very good. I really enjoyed this game, despite having played MI2 vanilla not too long ago. My only real beef is a couple of the voices. Largo's is terrible, and Cate's, while not that bad, is so far from what I always imagined. I'd much rather have the kind of voice that the woman guarding the gate to Elaine's mansion had. Oh well. Still, well worth the $10. I hope DoTT is next.
  9. Cryostasis

Yeah, it's $13. It was $3.50 last week, but I now feel really bad that I didn't pay way more. Just finished it about 20 minutes ago. This is straight up one of my favorite games of the past year. Maybe the best thing I've played this calendar year. 3 sittings, 4 or 5 hours each (sorry Thompson). It just gets better and better. Avoiding any spoilers (even tagged ones) whatsoever, just play through at least chapter 15. Holy fucking shit. The boss fight disappointed me in that it existed, but at least it wasn't too bad. It took me forever to figure out what I had to do, but that was just the nature of the game. No hand-holding at all. If someone is getting frustrated playing it, I'll spoiler tag it. The final set of chapters is incredible. Total mindfuck as well. This feels like an art movie, while also being a great horror game. Goddamned incredible. Thomspon, I really hope that it doesn't scare you out of playing to the end. I'd say it took me between 12 and 14 hours, including deaths. Also, I died a lot, so don't get too discouraged if you do too. Everybody play this game. The end.
  10. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Huh, that's weird. Looking at your spoilers now after finishing the game, I didn't have any of the problems that you guys did. The only puzzle that I didn't get relatively easily was the . Everything else I got just fine, though I did occasionally have to go back and re-read the instructions mid-puzzle to work things out. Overall, I really loved the game. I found it funny in all the right places, and only really have two complaints. The first was the abruptness of the ending, especially . I only hope that because this was a pilot, they're going to go back and answer some of that stuff later if they decide to make a full season. The second was the over-reliance on puzzles of the "rotate these blocks" and "assemble these pieces" variety. More logic and less spatial reasoning, please. Or at least a better balance of the two. The ones where I grabbed a pen and paper and started scribbling out things to myself in a mad frenzy to solve a logic problem were the best, and it was a shame there weren't more puzzles of that nature. Anyways, I'm really impressed by this game. I hope they decide to make more. It's so damn good to see an original IP from Telltale, and I can see this one doing really well for them if they nurture it. PS: One more, very minor, complaint. Mixing 2D and 3D is dumb. If there is another one, I really hope it's full 2D. When it was really obvious that the building was rendered 3D while everything else looked 2D. It was really distracting.
  11. Monkey Island 2: SE

Is the Steam version out now? I preordered it and will play through tonight if I have the option...
  12. Singularity

On top of the fact that it looks "ok" but I have a backlog of stuff that I'd rather play, I'm avoiding it for what may be a very stupid reason. It's the title. Specifically, the way that it's written with the semi-Cyrillic font that drives me crazy. An "R" that looks backwards to English speakers is not pronounced like and "R" goddamn it, it's a "ya." And a backwards looking "N?" It's an "ee" sound. Their title is then actually "Sieegulayaty," which is stupid. I've been playing Cyrostasis, lately, which does that on its loading screen, but at least it only replaces the "D" with a character that looks like a triangle but is actually pronounced "D" (it looks like a delta from the Greek alphabet). The title and other things where changing the characters would actually change the pronunciation are left alone. I don't know why that bothers me as much as it does, but it drives me crazy. Any game that adds in Cyrillic characters for no reason really gets on my nerves. For me, it's like the Thi4f thing. Seeing ads for Sieegulayaty is enough to convince me that every time I loaded up that game I'd get pissed off at it, so I'll hold off.
  13. Movie/TV recommendations

I feel the same way about that show. Top Gear is great, and I know shit all about cars. Of course, this makes me wonder if legitimate car enthusiasts may think it too dumbed down or whatever, but for someone who doesn't know or care to know anything about cars, Top Gear is a surprisingly entertaining show.
  14. GTA 63: It's been a while.

Damnit, I really miss these. Haven't been able to take part for a long time, as my Tuesdays have become much busier. One week, I swear to god, I'll be back.
  15. Recently completed video games

Finished Sam and Max 303 tonight, as I'd promised the coworker I mentioned earlier that she could watch the rest of the episode. Cool that she likes it, a bit frustrating that I got myself into this situation where I will only let myself play the newest episodes on slow nights when we're working together. Still, I really liked the game. Not as good as episode 2, which is still mind-blowing to look back on, but very good.
  16. Cryostasis

I'm doing a similar thing, but my rule is "one game in progress on each system at a time." That is, it's ok that I'm in the middle of both Cryostasis (a quick look online tells me that the chapter I'm at is exactly 2/3 of the way through the game) and ODST, even though they're both shooters, because one is on PC and the other is on 360. No starting Alan Wake until I'm done ODST though. Thomspon, I really hope you enjoy it. I hope I gave you a good impression of how scary it is. It's spooky, and tense as all hell, but not "things jumping out at your face" scary. It trades in atmosphere and very lengthy breaks in the action to mess with your head. Again, 2/3 of the way through the game now. Enemies sometimes have guns, sometimes axes, sometimes blowtorches. There have only been a couple of occasions where I've seen more than one enemy in the space of 10 minutes. When I was in a room with 2 guys shooting at me, it was such a bizarre change of pace. I've only seen any kind of inhuman thing once, that thing I described in spoiler tags. It wants to build and spook you, not shock you. It's very good at that, at least from my perspective. And hell, even if you don't play very much, at least it was cheap, right?
  17. Thi4f

Exactly, it's one o' them "britishisms" that us North Americans take forever to figure out.
  18. Carcassonne

I think it already has a thread in the multiplayer networking forum. I also recommend the XBLA version if you're ipad/phone-less. It's really quite good.
  19. Playstation Plus

Fair enough. It may not be all of them, but it is the vast majority of them.
  20. Thi4f

Oh shit. That makes even more sense. Not a word I ever think about using though.
  21. Playstation Plus

Also, to reply to Tanu's question about how many PSP games are up for download: All of them. Since the PSPGo doesn't have a UMD drive, they had to put the entire catalog of PSP games up on the PSN store, and they're usually pretty cheap unless you're buying a brand new release like MGS: Peace Walker. I'd say $10-$20 is the norm, with brand new games being $40 for the first 6 months or so before being dropped down to $20-ish.
  22. Cryostasis

A couple of things to add. First off, about length, I just checked a couple of reviews and the consensus seems to be that the game is about 10 hours. Not a major investment, but also not a trivial one. Second, I just had my first non-possession supernatural encounter. Really got to me. Freaky shit there, and made all the moreso by the incredibly good pacing of the game. Unlike recent horror games, this one is making me work to see its monsters rather than throwing everything at me in the first hour to try and wow me. I'm also dying a lot more now, but with a couple of exceptions, it feels pretty fair about it. I'm actually loving this game way more than I figured I would.
  23. Thi4f

It took me way too long to figure out that people were pronouncing it "Five - no" like a sports score. I suck at this game.
  24. Summer Steam Sale

Yeah, I know I can do that. But when spending time with a non-(post 1993)-gamer, it felt like it would have been just a little weird of me to say "One second honey, can I borrow your laptop for a bit to check on a video game sale?" I think it was probably worth missing cheap Bionic Commando in order to not be that guy.
  25. Summer Steam Sale

Sorry, I was at my girlfriend's house and unable to get on Steam for that 24 hour period. Would've bought it if I'd seen it.
