I would also potentially be in. Ask JamesM about Left 4 Dead and Bioshock 2 bundles if you doubt my sincerity. I'm a standup pre-purchase-bundle-dude.

Hey all. Looks like I may once again have Tuesday afternoon to play. Not guaranteed, as it mostly depends on my girlfriend's plans at this point, but looks more likely than it usually is. Anyone willing to give it another shot?

Well, I suck. I got called into work 2 hours early. Sorry.

I've played through the first section now. Was wondering when the forum would say something about it. I quite like what I've seen so far, and have laughed noticeably loudly on several occasions. Only problem is that it chugs like hell on my system, and my system is not that low-end at all. I'm guessing this is another one of those "made in XNA, optimized for 360, weirdly high requirements for a PC" situations? Is that what the patch is meant to fix?

They may have been. I just remember that they had Beat Operation: Anchorage tonight, as predicted. Started on Point Lookout, which is the last of the expansion content that I haven't played. I'm really interested to see what the play time on my final save file will be. I've left a bunch of areas in the capital wasteland undiscovered, mostly in the Northwest, but I've tried to go everywhere on foot in all but the most extreme circumstances and play it almost more like a survivalist sim game than as a plot-based RPG. I've now finished, in order the main game, Broken Steel, the Pitt, Mothership Zeta, and Operation Anchorage. There's been no rhyme or reason to the order I've been playing the expansions in, but I've actually really enjoyed all of them for different reasons. I've been a little bummed out by each of them as well (Broken Steel retcon-ing the ending, the Pitt being incredibly repetitive, Zeta being full of glitches, Anchorage being so damn linear, and Lookout having a map that looks huge until you realize that you can cross it in like a 10 minute walk) but that's only one complaint per expansion. For the most part, it's just been me getting my hopes up too high. Except the glitches in Zeta. That completely pissed me off and was not my own fault. When I have to reload the final mission 12 times so that my allies' AI doesn't bug out and have them flee back to the starting area in the middle of unlocking an otherwise-impassible door, I start to get pissed off. I'm fairly certain I'll be finished my Fallout 3 time by the end of the weekend, and that's making me more sad than I thought it would. I'm getting that feeling Chris talked about with Trine where you see the part of a book in your right hand getting smaller and smaller and start to feel depressed about it. That said, I don't know if I'll be doing New Vegas right away when it comes out. I may need to take some time to get Fallout 3 out of my system before hopping back into the engine for more questing. EDIT: A day later, and I'm done. I don't want to play Starcraft 2 at work as I won't be online and can't get achievements (I know, I know. It's kind of a stupid reason) so I think the next PC game on my list will be to finally wrap up Dawn of War 2. My problems with Point Lookout as described in parentheses earlier held, but I still really liked my entire Fallout 3 experience. It felt really weird to never see end credits though. The thing with the expansion content is that it makes it look like the endgame isn't actually an endgame. I know there aren't anymore quests, but the game didn't really let me know it. I don't know if I'm ready to uninstall it, but I know I'm done the game. It's weird. Oh well.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 11: Diplomatic Pouch

Awesome, now I have someone I can address directly who works for Irrational. Chris, I say to you: FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3FreedomForce3 ...please? -
I've personally projected an original print of Wrath of Khan. It was about 30 years old, so it had obviously seen better days. The entire print was tinged orange, making it look like every single scene on the bridge was on Red Alert. After starting it, I ran into the theater to watch the whole thing. Fantastic night at work. And yeah, just an hour ago I was playing Fallout 3 on my laptop in the projection booth while putting on a show of Agora. When you've got a one screen theater to oversee, most of the time you're just killing time. As long as you're there to fix shit if it goes wrong, nothing wrong with a bit o' gaming. Just one more reason I love my job.

Yeah, the whole of Warcaft Adventure's story was used as sort of a prologue to WCIII. I never read "Lord of the Clans" or whatever, but if you go through the Orc section of the instruction manual for WCIII it's all in there. Pretty detailed, too.

I just got into the simulation part before I saved, so I'm about to get right into it. Looking forward to it. For those who may be wondering what the hell I did to get it to finally work, turns out that Fallout 3 has a "data files" option on the main menu. I clicked on it as a last ditch effort, and saw that I had two checkboxes. One said "Fallout 3" and was checked. The other said "Operation Anchorage" and was not. I checked it, and immediately got the radio transmission to start the pack upon starting the game up again. Only time I've had to worry about anything beyond updating my game after buying DLC through Steam, so heads up to anyone else considering this stuff.

Half Minute Hero.... time to dust off your PSP!
miffy495 replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Nope. I had to search twice, first without the hyphen, then with. If I hadn't been sure that there had been an earlier thread, I would've given up after the first attempt too... -
I'm with you. I didn't love it, but I certainly didn't hate it. I just don't expect much out of the AC storyline, so I was fine with how it ended. I even half-respected it for just going completely balls-out crazy at the end. Sort of. They're actually Wow. I too beat it on my first go and never gave it a second thought. As a result, I really liked that game. I've now beaten Broken Steel, The Pitt, and Mothership Zeta. My Fallout 3 journey is fast coming to an end. These DLC packs are much shorter than I imagined them to be. I hit the level cap tonight (30, that is) and got started on Operation Anchorage. I'll beat that on Friday, almost guaranteed, and then over the weekend play through Point Lookout. I've put about 60 hours into the game now, from what my savegame is telling me, and have done all but two of the main game's sidequests (both of which I encountered but then failed due to my killing slavers rather than working for them). I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said, aside from the obvious "why the hell did I wait until this game was 2 years old to do this?"

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor? I've been playing it, and it really is balls-hard. Good though.

Half Minute Hero.... time to dust off your PSP!
miffy495 replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Huh, that's weird. I was sure I'd talked about this in the game's original thread. I guess I didn't. Oh well. I beat this game about 6 months ago and enjoyed pretty much every second of it. 'Blix, don't worry about stress. It only really gets going a few times. For the most part, it's a very light-hearted affair that is (as one would expect) great for playing in short bursts. Tanu has written a lot already that I probably don't need to add to, but I'll throw in my support and say that someone with a PSP who thinks this game sounds even remotely interesting should give it a try. It really is great fun. -
ElMuerte, it makes me sad that (judging from your tone) you think that the "ancient" technology behind a traditional theater setup automatically makes it inferior. Granted, as a projectionist I'm horribly biased, but I gotta say I love 35mm film. Film damage is irritating, and sometimes we get prints that were damaged all to hell by previous theaters and I'm ashamed to project, but if you get a good print and your projectionist knows what they're doing, it's unequaled. There is practically no upper limit on image quality, which can't be said about digital, and the sound is just due to the people putting on the show bothering to find an appropriate sound level on a film-by-film basis. The main problem with movie theaters is that multiplexes often have only one projectionist working up to 17 screens, with a few kids backing them up who are trained to press the "start" button but have no clue what they're doing aside from that. As a result, the projectionist is overworked and unable to pay the attention that each screen deserves, and the backup kids damage the fuck out of a bunch of prints. If you go to a place with 2 or 3 screens, you will see the difference. I have no idea what is giving you the flicker from a 60Hz CRT display though. Our equipment uses a high-pressure Xenon bulb, and there isn't a single CRT in the booth apart from a tiny monitor that is only on when we're forced to use our digital projector. That part of the comment just left me puzzled.

Saving it for last, as everyone seems to say that. Also, has anyone had trouble with Steam DLC for Fallout 3? I bought every pack except Operation Anchorage through GFWL's store, and Anchorage through Steam. Everything except Anchorage works fine, but that one has never triggered. I have no radio signal directing me to any kind of anything. I kinda wanted to play that now instead of the Pitt, but here I am. Sent a message to Steam support, as I gave them my $10 and spent my time downloading everything, but figured I'd try here too.

I don't know if it would count or not, but I finished Fallout 3: Broken Steel today and then got started on the Pitt. Making some progress towards finishing all that stack of DLC.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 11: Diplomatic Pouch

Finished listening this morning while cleaning the theater. Congrats, and a hearty fuck you, to Chris. After being here for 5 years, it was so great to see loads of new content on Idle Thumbs again. Now it will once again fall silent, and to me that is the worst thing about this. We need the UK contingent to pick up the slack or something. -
I intend to play through the single player before going online at all with the game, but I'll be up for a match or two when the time comes. Don't have a number yet, but at the moment I'm just Miffy in North America. I'm not going to get code 495, but a guy can dream, huh?
-
I wouldn't go quite so far as useless, but this is absolute balls. The people I'd most want to play this with are Idle Thumbs forumites. The three Thumbs that I've played more games than any others with are Patters, Wrestlevania, and Toblix. I dare you to guess how many of these live on the same continent as me. In fact, due to my job being one that has me working evenings, the times when I can play things online are usually far more likely to work for those across the Atlantic. It's mid-afternoon for me, but evening for them. Most people get most of their play time in the evening, I happen to get mine in the mid-afternoon, so I play with people not of my continent. I get the ranked/competitive match thing, but that I can't even set up a player match with a buddy in England sucks a lot. In other news, it arrived yesterday, but as I got in at 5 in the morning, I have yet to install it. I will probably start playing tomorrow. Whoo!

Holy crap! Another new one? What is happening here? That bad news better not be a re-canceling. Stop playing with my heart, Thumbcast! -
Sorry I was away from my computer, but happy birthday sir!

Wait, what? That's such a load of bullshit. What the hell could their rationale possibly be?

Hey all. For the first time in months, I'm available for a round of GTA tomorrow afternoon. Straight up, I've missed that shit. Who's in?

DEVIOUS!
