Or Zero Suit anything? One of the things that I love about Samus is how un-sexualized she is, but really Team Ninja (in my experience of about half the game) has shown more restraint than Nintendo has in recent years. When you see her face in flashbacks, she's in military casual clothes. The only zero suit stuff is that when she dies, for whatever reason, her suit evaporates as she collapses. Unless you're dying a tonne, you almost never see it. In-game, sometimes it will cut away and show her face, but that is just her helmet coming off, suit stays on. A bunch of what Team Ninja has done over the years is repulsive and a big part of what's wrong with gaming culture, but it's unfair to throw that at their work with Other M. As for the whole "she won't act without authorization from her MALE friend" thing, he's her superior officer and they're in a military situation. I'd still rather they not tack on any of that, but she never seems subservient to him and certainly is never lacking in personal motivation to kick some ass. It's done far better than I ever expected it to be. That said, the story is still crap. I'm fairly sensitive to sexism issues in games, with a lot of what's out there being pretty disgusting to me, but Other M never stood out as anything particularly objectionable.

I got it through that sneaky XBLA "download the demo and upgrade to play the game a month early" release that they did back in November. I've played a fair bit of it, but my compeltionist nature is causing me quite a bit of grief. Good game, but you can drive yourself insane looking for everything.

I played about half of Other M, and actually intend to finish it still. I thought it was quite good, gameplay wise. The story should be ignored, and the voice acting is bad at best. The actual roaming around a space station and fighting things, however, still felt like Metroid to me. That said, that quote is hilariously awful. They have to be doing this on purpose at this point, right? This is hipster irony? Please?

Mine was waiting in the mailbox when I got home from work last night. First batch of mail I've received since moving! Though there were also birthday cards and christmas cards from my grandparents in the batch, there was one particular thing that stood out. 'blix, you are a mad genius. Thank you sir!

I beat that game sometime about 7 years ago, and still remember how fucking irritating that boss was. I feel your pain, sir. That said, you're now making me want to go back and replay that game. I might have to do that sometime in the coming months.

I have nothing to contribute here, but it's awesome to see you, Yufster! Welcome back!

Man, I bought a Sackboy plushie at PAX for $20. If only I had known...

The hand-to-hand combat in Bully feels lifter directly out of Rockstar's The Warriors game, so there's that. That's probably why it has the RCR feel to it, as The Warriors was a brawler through and through.

There's a sort-of hidden one. An island called "Hothead Island" isn't marked on the map, but has an outhouse on it. It's in the Southwestern portion of the sea. It's just the developer's logo turned into a land mass, like that DS island in Zelda Phantom Hourglass, but it's probably the outhouse that you're missing.

Saw the Town last night. I don't really understand why it's getting as much buzz as it has been. I believe I'm becoming a big fan of Jeremy Renner, and Jon Hamm was good, but overall the movie was so simple, the dialogue was clunky as all hell, and aside from the two actors I mentioned I can't think of anything memorable aside from cringing at Pete Posthelwaite's Boston-Irish accent. What a bummer. Oh well.

I'm feeling conflicted about these current HD collections

I too am Nintendo's bitch and an owner of Mario All Stars Wii, despite owning all 4 games that are on there on VC already. I suck at life, but love Mario games so much. The SNES-ified graphics are enough for me to feel good about this purchase. I didn't get an original NES until mid gamecube era, so the SNES versions of these games are the ones which I am nostalgic for. I've been wanting to play them in this way for a long time, and am happy to have spent the $30 to indulge myself. I have already spent hours giggling and playing that disc in my Wii. Good times. -

The art style was fantastic, the platforming felt good, if a little magnetic (Cole in inFamous moves almost exactly the same way, if you've played it), and I never found the companions that irritating myself. They're very overplayed in the way that characters in a children's movie would be, but not particularly awful. If you see them as the goofy sidekicks from an animated film, they're not dramatically better or worse than any other. Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the game though, Speedy. Personally I only played Sly 1 about a year ago and I immediately made it a retroactive top 10 game of the previous generation. -
I actually found the madame primp thing rather tedious. If it hadn't been for the fact that I was well on my way to having every single other achievement in both games by that point, I wouldn't have bothered. Just had to get my fucking gold star. I kind of hate that I did that, honestly. The cheevos in DS are pretty easy, particularly if you're a completionist like me and never leave an RPG sidequest unfinished.

I am currently in Victoria staying with my mother and stepdad for a quick post-christmas visit. I opened what they got me for Christmas today, and though I have yet to bring it home, I am now in possession of a Kinect. Naturally, the first thing I did was go on Amazon and order the boxing day-discounted Dance Central. Since, we've been messing around with Kinect Adventures. While I doubt that particular game will have much staying power, it is certainly a fun and goofy time. Kinect! to , depending on how much space I can free in my apartment.

I have only played Sly 1 so far, but I absolutely loved it and that experience is the main reason I want to buy the collection. I finished the entire game, and while the last level is very meat-circusy, overall I thought it was great. I too am curious what is so wrong with the HD collection? -
Yeah, I had the same issue, resolved the same way. Had I arrived here in time, I would have pointed you to that link.

I can too. I can play it without gamepad support and with terribly clunky mouse controls. In most cases, I'm a PC purist as well, but the PoP trilogy that I have for PC I can't fucking stand to play. That game demands a pad, as most platformers do. Nowadays, gamepad support is expected as consoles have gained popularity. When Sands of Time came out it wasn't. Most modern platformers I will still buy on PC and play with a 360 controller plugged in. SoT doesn't support that, and as a result I consider the PC version largely unplayable. The HD version I downloaded to my PS3 plays great, although the uprezzed textures on lower-poly models look a bit weird, and I'm happy I dropped the $15 on it. -

Somebody needs to stop this bot. It now has enough posts to start its own threads. -
Merry belated Christmas to all!

See the "recently completed" thread for my thoughts, as I beat it yesterday. In short, I hope you got it while it was cheap, because I thought it was rad.

I bought it. I intend to play with my 360 controller plugged into my laptop, which has been excellent for a lot of things.

I too played stealth the entire way through the game. I never felt restrained by that once, and any time that something went pear-shaped, I'd just bust out my assault rifle and finish everybody off. I had no problems with the aiming, never bothered to watch an enemy path through all the way a single time before sneaking up and dropping them, and while the hacking was a bit of a pain, I only triggered an alarm on my first ever hack. After that, I got them all first go. The boss fights were fucking terrible, but everything else in the game seemed fine to me. The action mechanics seemed very similar to ME1 to me, which was fine. It's a game in which your ability to shoot becomes less hampered by the mechanics the more you level up your character's ability shoot. Seemed fine to me, especially after leveling up my pistols and assault rifles (never used anything else). In conclusion, none of the things that you mentioned bothered me in the least. Trying to play the game stealthily made it feel like one of the older Splinter Cells, and in that regard I liked it much more than Conviction.

I still have yet to upload my photos from PAX. When I dig my camera cables out of the moving box they were in, I will post the shot of the entire panel, with people labeled, so that your curiosity may be satisfied.
