Holy crap, the conf grenades have brought on a relative flood of not-bots! Welcome, all.

The Idle Thumbs Acheivements Leaderboard

Damn, I'm super close to the top 10, and if the achievements I've been earning lately on 360 (Rock Band, Enslaved, You Don't Know Jack) had been added in, I may be in there. Damn you, Mike! I'm a-coming for ya! -

Hell yeah! I am the happiest pair of pyjamas! -
Hi, not-a-bot!

Am I the only one who is incredibly happy that that link is to gamasutra? They should really be the only site allowed to talk about this game.

Man, listening to that felt in a weird way like coming home. But on the internet. Thanks for that! -
GDC 2011: The Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade: Hold On To Your B.U.T.T.O.N.

Hell yes. Glad there's a thing. Can't wait to listen! -
This forum-meme is funny to me because I just finished listening to the old 'casts recently and discovered that the story that the grenade rolled down a hill in actually happened in Fallout 3. Misattribution rules! So does inventing words!

I spend most of my grinding time in Persona 3 Portable listening to podcasts. Helps the time pass.

After much thought (you can tell because it's almost March) I think I've settled on my goty. It's a weird one, but the more I think about it the less I can deny it. My goty.cx of 2010 is Just Cause 2. I know there were far better games released in 2010, but I was dicking around a couple of days ago in the world, working my way towards 50% completion (long after having finished the campaign) and came to the realization that I have put 8 hours into the game after having seen the credits. I can't think of a single other game which I have completed and still put enough time to finish a game in on top of that. Well, I can, but this is a SINGLE PLAYER ONLY game. This is fucking ridiculous. And I'm still having fun. I can think of more worthwhile games. I can think of more important games. I can think of more interesting games. Thing is, I'm not still playing them. I'm still playing Just Cause 2, after it was released in March, after 36 hours, and after finishing the game at 28. I'm still having fun. Just Cause 2 is my game of 2010.

I too am dumb and put my foot in my mouth all the time. It's nice to feel smart on the internet because you can edit before posting. I totally know how you feel. Glad you're not quitting for reals.

Wheres all the multiplayer networking gone?

Oh James, you're going to make us blush. -
I gotta say, there's a fine line between "unconventional" names and "names that will get the kid beat up a bunch," so I can see where your wife is coming from Monkey. I, for one, am pretty glad that my parents settled where they did. On the one hand, Peter is a pretty bog-standard name (hell, it's biblical). On the other, it never came up as a popular name in the year of my birth and I've only ever met a few others, and only one within a couple of years of my age. As such, I'm pretty happy with it and am really glad that my parents made the effort to pick something out that was not overwhelmingly popular and also not sounding desperate to separate itself from the crowd. Something to think about?

I think I beat the bank job on my third try, it was a pain, but not the worst thing in the game (for me, the final chase took the cake on that). As for the San Andreas mission, what did you play the game on? I've beaten the game twice on PC and have never had any kind of issue with the things that people always complain about with that game. The toy helicopter one and skydiving ones never took me more than 2 tries on either playthrough. Maybe it's just that mouse and keyboard is so much better suited to it or something, but I don't understand the complaints.

Dead Space is now complete. The first one, which I went back to because everybody is currently talking about the sequel and I realized I should go back and finish it. It was pretty good, though it never really got to me the way it wanted to. I was able to call pretty much every plot point along the way and any time a dude popped out of a vent, I was usually already aiming at it. I came close to dying quite a few times near the end, but was alway able to pop open my inventory and chug a health pack in time. They obfuscate what happened at the end pretty well, to the point where I don't think I have any idea what happened. Unfortunately, I don't particularly care that much either. At any rate, it was fun to blow the limbs off things (strategically!) for a while and I had fun while it lasted. The boss was suitably impressive as well, but after beating it the realization that it never even fucking hit me was a downer. Oh, and for the record, I played the game on Normal, as per my 2010 new year's resolution of not playing things on easy any more. It's worked out pretty well for me, as the past year in this thread can attest to. I think it's actually helping me beat more games, as I don't get tired of the mechanics because the game keeps challenging me now. For those that burn out on games about halfway through on a regular basis, food for thought.

Fuck yeah, Ben! I remember you specifically for two reasons. 1. You traded me a Turtwig at 4 in the morning back when I was playing Pokemon Pearl. 2. You sent me a message when I bought Jolly Rover to ask what I thought of it, which I shamefully never got back to. I played up to the point where you go off with the lady dog to the haunted cave, but then moved and didn't play for a while, making me feel as though going back would require restarting to jog my memory. For the record, I quite liked it. Happy to see you back!

FUCK. YES. That is all.

Telltale to make Walking Dead and Fables games?
miffy495 replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I haven't read either, but know that my girlfriend is obsessed with the Fables books. She has really good taste in graphic novels, so this makes me really excited for the game adaptation. In short, I'm with you too. -
Longest I've stayed up was about 38 hours. Saw a giant ladybug with a briefcase and decided to sleep. Awesome news, monkey! Major grats!

I like both those guys! Birthday!

The latter. Although I found it quite funny (honestly, the only appealing thing about Bulletstorm I've yet encountered) I'm sure a 5 minute youtube video would suffice to get the whole thing across without a 700 meg install.
