  1. Blue sky in American games?

Hey look, DMA's original intent. Sorry, I know this is kind of glib, but this thread is turning into two separate and increasingly personal arguments occurring simultaneously and I feel the need to deflate things a bit. Nobody hates anybody here, dig? Let's all take a deep breath folks.
  2. Child of Eden

Just wanted to make sure everyone has seen this Giant Bomb quick look of Child of Eden at PAX East. Hey, guess what? I'm buying this game. Honestly, I'd almost already forgotten that I have a Kinect (let's hear it for well-intentioned Christmas hardware gifts that don't have any interesting software to back them up!) but suddenly I'm incredibly happy I have one. Last time I used the Kinect was a late night drunken Dance Central party about a month and a half ago, but that video makes me love that inactive little box that's been sitting on top of my TV being useless for a long time. Most interesting thing for me? Aside from looking at the game and seeing "REZ: but with way more organic stuff", I'm really impressed by the responsiveness of everything and the right-hand-for-homing-shot, left-hand-for-rapid-fire mechanic. It actually seems like a really intelligent use of the controller, rather than just tacked on support. Having each hand be a different weapon alleviates that delay that switching between them on a pad will have, so good on Q for doing something smart with the technology!
  3. Blue sky in American games?

I think it's important to remember in all of this that UK Resistance is/was (haven't checked it in a couple of years now) a comedy site and that though the "Why aren't games happier?" question was probably meant in earnest, the specifics of the article were intended to induce chuckles/make people think of Sonic the Hedgehog.
  4. Pokemon: Act Zero

Man, that city does sound more appealing to me. That may help decide. I've got two weeks until my next cheque to think it over anyway. Thanks for the tip, Ben!
  5. Pokemon: Act Zero

I'm very tempted, but didn't have enough left over from this paycheque. I'm certainly considering it in two weeks when I get my next. I'm wondering what the difference between the two versions is this time though, as I've heard it's more significant than usual. Any tips on what to get?
  6. Shogun 2: Total War

Really enjoying reading your logs, Squid, but this is confirming for me that this game is over my head. It seems like the sort of thing I could get really into if I had a world of spare time, but having only every tried Empire and not getting very far in that, the investment into getting involved in the game seems too steep for me. That said, the logs are great so keep 'em coming!
  7. Left 4 Thumbs - The Homethumbing

I would love to be a part of this, but will be at work. Count me jealous.
  8. New people: Read this, say hi.

Dude, you've been here for like 6 years. Start a thread, we'll probably be cool with it. Also, welcome Vector9. It's not that you need to post here specifically, but if you're trying to start a thread you need a post count of 10 first. Part of the "make sure you're not a robot" thing.
  9. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

I have been loving the hell out of that ability. The amount of arrow storms and "Hey, drop that dude" events that I've done so far is astounding considering I've barely unlocked the things. Running along rooftops would always get irritating as soon as an archer says "What are you doing up here?!", but now I respond to that with a whistle and watch one of my homeys stab them in the neck. So satisfying. I'm near to finishing Chapter 5 now, and going through everything that I possibly can. God is it great. I have had a pretty big glitch though, which involved me attempting to tackle a Borgia courier and instead flying off into the stratosphere. As glitches go though, it was pretty fantastic. Sure, I had to go into the training menu and leave again in order to respawn in the city, but I got an astoundingly beautiful bird's-eye-view of the entire city. Holy shit is it gorgeous what they've pulled off with this game. Just, wow. Anyway, back to the game.
  10. Life

    Jesus. Thoughts with you, Kroms.
  11. Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday, you magnificent French bastard!
  12. Recently completed video games

I just beat Kane and Lynch: Dead Men on PC earlier tonight. I gotta say, I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. It feels dated, but aside from that I found it pretty fun. It wasn't a great game, but it tried some interesting stuff and I bought into the story quite a bit. Maybe part of the problem with it was that it also felt dated back when it came out, but playing it years later totally fixes that problem. I'm now actually kind of excited to jump in and play Dog Days, having also picked it up recently when Steam had it for really cheap. I think the two games cost me a total of $10, so it's money I'm happy to have spent.
  13. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Back on topic a little, been enjoying the game a lot, although it does seem to be revealing some disturbing completionist tendencies in me. That is, I'm not even halfway through chapter 4 yet and I have Rome over 50% restored. I'm just doing every possible side thing before getting around to progressing the story. That said, I'm sitting at work right now thinking "Man, I could totally be stabbing dudes in the face right now," so it's got its hooks in me. One thing I have noticed is that the larger rural expanses don't seem to fit the engine too well. I never noticed that things weren't drawing in until I got pretty close in AC2 because I was usually surrounded by large buildings. Here I'm watching grass and fences appear 20 feet in front of me as I run through a field. Kinda rough. That's really it for criticisms though.
  14. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

I started this earlier this week within an hour of finishing my replay of AC2. The difference in interface, just in terms of slickness, was the first thing that struck me. The second: Man do I love just running around and doing things. This is a fun game just to explore and I'm looking forward to exploring the world some more. After the way that AC2 ends, I was really hoping to get back into the next setting and see what's up, but it's nice to be back in Italy as well. I guess it's only fair that I play 2 games as Altair and 2 games as Ezio, but while Bloodlines was clearly not meant to be a core game, Brotherhood seems to be considered one. Oh well, I'm having fun and want to get back to it. Will probably do so tomorrow night and can't wait. The 2 hours that I've played really whetted my appetite. Also, just as a thing to say, upon seeing the box my girlfriend asked me "So... you play as George Michael?" Now I can't unsee that. Damn it. =
  15. Dino D-Day

That's actually my main question. Is there going to be a single player component to this at all?
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

I hope they find a Canadian distributor. Sounds like exactly the kind of movie my theater would book in a heartbeat.
  17. New people: Read this, say hi.

Yeah, I don't remember roasting anyone...
  18. Recently completed video games

Bastards. I should really have learned by now. When in doubt: PC.
  19. Recently completed video games

Oh shit, they added those back in on the PC version? That would have been nice. The whole reason I replayed it on 360 instead of just buying the PC version on Steam last time it was on sale was that I wanted to play my DLC. Yeah, Bonfire had a lot more required stealth bits which I quite enjoyed. The stuff in Forli was much more KILL EVERYBODY ALL THE TIME, and also a lot shorter. Bonfire is definitely the better of the two.
  20. Recently completed video games

Just finished my second playthrough of Assassin's Creed 2. The first time I played it was before the DLC came out, and I remember feeling really ripped off that the game jumped from sequence 11 to 14 claiming that 12 and 13 were "corrupted" and couldn't be accessed. Conveniently, they let you pay to repair the sequences and actually play them. Sometime last summer they were on sale for really cheap, so I picked them up then and figured I'd see what they were like next time I went through the story. The verdict? I quite liked them, though I can understand the disappointment that those who paid full price and didn't have them integrated with the story would feel. They were fun little diversions that allowed me to mess around with Da Vinci's flier a bit more and gave me an excuse to go back to Florence for more killing of mans. The story bits were obviously non-essential and the environments were the same, but I got to revisit cool places and extend my playthrough by about 2 hours, so it's not really anything to complain about. Fun, but not worth full price. The main game, what can I say? It's still AC2. It's really fun, and I find the story to be, if not good, at least weird enough to keep me interested in what they're going to do next. I know it's stupid, but when you tell me that a game is going to go through all kinds of weird alien conspiracies while also involving a fist fight with the pope in the vatican in 1499, I'm willing to at least hear you out. Between this and my replays of AC1 and Bloodlines (PSP) in December, I'm now fully caught up on replaying Assassin's Creed and feel ready for Brotherhood. In fact, I'm typing this as it installs. Yay!
  21. Atom Zombie Smasher

I believe this is a reference to the title being Citizen Abel. Just a bad joke, no film viewing necessary. Still, what the hell are you doing not having seen Citizen Kane, Gwardinen? Go educate yourself, post-haste.
  22. Atom Zombie Smasher

Though for the record, it may have some stability issues. I've attempted many times to complete Gravity Bone and still haven't. It isn't hard or anything, it's just crashed before I could complete it every time.
  23. New people: Read this, say hi.

Welcome, not-quite-a-not-bot! 'blix is one of our oldest and most respected/crotchety members. I hope he's the person you're looking for and not that someone else used his name. Given his status in the community, this other person would be branded a name-traitor and hunted down until they are either killed or opt to change their name.
  24. Hawken, or: Fuck Me, Mech Games Are BACK!

Oh shit Pete, don't make me think back to all the hours spent with my sidewinder playing MW4. My nostalgia muscles can't cope.
