  1. Sorry to take it back to Origin, but this seems to be where it's getting discussed as well. Just wanted to point out to people that some EA games can be unlocked with the CD key you got when you bought it on Steam. For me, this meant that Red Alert 3, Hot Pursuit, and Mass Effect 2 were unlocked with the codes that I had, but things like Crysis, Mass Effect 1, and Dead Space could not be. It's a weird thing, but if you want to unlock your games on the EA store, some may work.
  2. I'm surprised you had as much trouble as you did with that final boss. I think it's a bit of a spike (I died twice) but not anything drastically beyond what the game had prepared you for by that point. I was able to get through it with liberal knee slides and dodge rolls, and being incredibly economical with my heat levels, right up until the game said "hey, we're disabling your heat limiters" and then going ape-shit. It felt like a really satisfying capper to the experience. Following finishing this game, I stopped by a "we sell games for any system ever" store a few blocks from my house and found a copy of P.N.03 for $10. Picked it up as Vanquish was awesome and I wanted to check out the game it is supposedly a successor to. That game is balls-hard. Holy crap did it every kick the shit out of me on the first level. Has anyone put a good deal of time into it? How did you make it click?
  3. Nintendo 3DS

Man I want this. Why do Nintendo games always come out on Sundays? The store I would go to is open 11 to 5 on Sunday, and I work from 10 to 6. Fuckers.
  4. Capsized

All you folks who've been waiting, Capsized is part of an indie pack that's running for $10 this weekend. I grabbed it, and have played through the first 5 levels. Holy crap this game is gorgeous. Intense, too. I'd say pick up the pack if only for Capsized. Bloody good little game.
  5. Child of Eden

I just realized that I ordered this game from an online retailer during a postal strike. I'm suddenly very sad.
  6. DSiWare

It is vanilla (black and white) game boy version only, no Super Game Boy or GBC functionality. I played a few minutes of it today and it seems like it could be a pretty fun little game. I played a bunch of Mario vs DK 2 on DS when it came out, and the DSiWare one was one of my favourite early DSiWare releases, so this is quite a welcome surprise considering that I didn't know it existed. I'll be happy to kill time on bus rides thwarting DK's attempts to capture poor Pauline.
  7. DSiWare

Hey, they've got a long way to go with this. You wouldn't expect them to put out Metroid 2, Super Mario Land 2, the Zelda Oracle Games, Pokemon, and whatever else people are holding their breath for in the first month. That said, I'd love it if they would and sometimes the waits can be ridiculous (where the hell is Yoshi's Island on Wii VC?), but I'm willing to be patient for a while. Donkey Kong isn't a bad start, I guess, and I'll probably pick it up when I get my home wifi set up on Monday.
  8. Life

That's rough. Try to not take it to heart too much, I guess. If all you needed for an A was a C on that exam, you've obviously got this shit in the bag. Hell, in the same situation, I've decided "Fuck it, I already have a good mark going in, what do I need to care?" and done irresponsible shit. My best was drinking a mickey of rye on my way to a logic exam because it was worth 15% and I had 100% of the rest of the course. Figured that if I was guaranteed at least an 85% grade, I could be drunk for the exam.* The fact that you're still taking this as seriously as you are is already a good sign. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine, no stress. *Please, PLEASE do not take life lessons from this. EDIT: Whups, in before edit I guess. You cut out what I was referring to, but whatever. You get the idea.
  9. Child of Eden

Update: Amazon now reports my order as "shipped." Whoo!
  10. Mass Effect 3

    Hahahahahaha!
  11. Burnout Paradise

I have it on both PSN and PC, but have made much more progress on PSN. It really is good. I'm not surprised by your reaction, Tanu, given that Burnout 3 was the first non-Kart racing game I'd ever enjoyed. It's sort of a racing game gateway drug. Once I'd obsessed over Burnout 3 for a long while, I started branching into other racing games. First just because they came free with my systems (Forza 1 came with my original Xbox, PGR3 with my 360) and finally because I'd developed a taste for them. If you're enjoying Paradise, I would recommend Need For Speed Hot Pursuit from last year, as it really does feel just like a new Burnout rather than a new Need For Speed.
  12. DSiWare

Which one is Donkey Kong 98? Is that Donkey Kong Land, or the arcade game?
  13. Child of Eden

I watched that quicklook, read Joystiq's review, wiped the drool off my monitor, and ordered the game from Amazon. Since the day I got my Kinect, I've been thinking "This will be worth it when Child of Eden comes out". Now it's here, and I want to play it so bad. I'll report back once I've spent some time with it. I'l probably try with both Kinect and the controller. As Davis pointed out in the quick look, Gwarinden, they have separate scoreboards for "with kinect" and "with controller", so I think they've adjusted it so that progression works just fine no matter how you want to control it. I am really excited to try this out.
  14. Life

Man, you're taking these pretty hard. If you're heading for uni, you've gotta get yourself ready to write under pressure and wait a while for the results a lot. Deep breaths, dude. You seem fairly bright, so try not to worry too much about it. Now that the exam is in the can, you've done all you can and any stress you put on yourself at this point is just going to be wasted energy. August 18th isn't that far away. I know it can be a pain in the ass to spin your wheels for two months, but as there's nothing else to do, just relax and try to celebrate being done. You're finished (some? all? a couple?) exams! Congrats!
  15. The great Valve re-play

I had a fucking fantastic month and a bit of gaming doing this, so I hope you enjoy yourself!
  16. Well, I looked at Origin, and apparently it still has my copy of Spore registered, so I'll give them that. I bought that back the month the game launched, and EA still says I own it. Credit where it's due, I guess. Still, don't know that I want to buy anything new from them, and likely I won't. Waiting for things to come out on Steam, if they ever do, unless ME3 proves too tempting for me.
  17. Yeah, I'm far more likely to buy ME3 in a box and then just add it to my Steam list, but then I'd be worried that it would come out on Steam later and I'd end up paying yet more money for the convenience of having it ACTUALLY be on my Steam list (see also: Spore). I don't care if EA wants to have their own store through which they sell their stuff, that's fine. What sucks is that they're removing their stuff from other services. It's fine if you don't want to give me a copy of the original Alice with Madness Returns unless I buy it from Origin (which is what they have up as of this post), but at least allow me to buy the vanilla game from other sources.
  18. Wait, what? Really? What the fuck, EA? I can sort of understand only releasing your new things on your own thing (though that is also monumentally stupid) but pulling your older titles off of other services as well? Fuck you entirely. I buy my PC games on Steam, both for convenience sake and because their service has proved itself to me enough times over the years. I bought one thing from EA's store, Spore back when it first came out, and it asked me to ensure my fucking copy just like EB would. Why the hell would I ever go back to their bullshit?
  19. Nintendo 3DS

So yes. That said, this has become my favorite thing to do when showing off the 3DS to other people. First I show them the game running blown up to fill the top screen, then explain to them that if you're playing an original DS game, you can hold start + select to run it in native res and that this works with this game as well. I then tell them to brace themselves for the most stupid and pointless but also kind of cool feature ever. As I boot up Mario Land, they think I'm just talking about the shell, which I'm happy to let them think for a minute. Then I announce that not only is there a shell, but there is a shell... "IN THREEEE DEEEEE!!!" and watch their brain break a little bit as I push the 3D slider. It's the dumbest feature in the world to have that game boy shell be 3D, but I fucking love it for that. Anyone I know who also appreciates dumb/awesome things is then immediately taken with this functionality.
  20. Formula Thumb

Ok, so as I mentioned in the "Life" thread, after a 7 month period of having no internet connection at home (holy shit, I didn't realize it had been that long until I typed it) I am getting plugged back into the grid on Monday the 20th. As such, I was wondering if there were any Thumbs out there up for a game on the Tuesday afternoon following (that is, the 21st)? 'Blix and Wrestlevania have already expressed an interest, so let's get this going. I've lost track of exactly what times here are compared to times in Europe/UK, but I believe that if we start at noon my time, that would be 2pm Eastern and 7pm GMT? I work at 6 that night, so that leaves me with several good hours for racing. Who's with me?
  21. Life

Congrats on having fully functioning hands (once the cast comes off)! I can't imagine playing games with a messed up thumb for 10 years was that fun...
  22. DSiWare

Oh yeah, actually that reminds me of another really good one, also from the guys who make the Pixel Junk games (so yeah, they still make things for Nintendo). It's called Trajectile and is crazy good. It's sort of like a combination of arkanoid and puzzle bobble, where you need to properly aim a shot in order to bounce it into certain target bricks and break them. It can get really hard, but is a lot of fun. It's the same kind of addictive as Angry Birds, which I'm just realizing as I'm writing this, but came out earlier. Look into it.
  23. Hitman: Absolution

Man, I'm sure we could start an online petition to try to get them to make this game. At least as a bonus level? Facebook marketing mini-game? Something? Damn your awesome imagination, Mike!
  24. Life

Well, the cutbacks at work have begun. As of yesterday, no more wifi. I'm getting an extremely dodgy signal from the coffee shop across the street right now to type this. As a result, I've decided that I'll cave two months earlier than planned and get internet at home now. So at least something good can come of all this turmoil and bullshit at work. As of next Monday, I'll be back online for XBL, PSN, and Steam multiplayer. Those who missed me in my absence, what say we get some Forza on next week?
  25. Nintendo 3DS

The first time I played Link's Awakening was the DX version, but on a game boy pocket so it was in black and white. As such, playing it now on my 3DS is a bit odd because the game is the exact same version I remember but the colours are new. I don't know if there is a "right" version of this game, but for me it's DX in black and white. I'm actually enjoying the colours though, if only for the newness of it, so I'm not sure I'm entirely with you on that, Patters. Also, I've now beaten Super Mario Land about 5 times through. I'm constantly subjecting my friends and girlfriend to the music from it. Still the best Mario music ever.
