  1. Nintendo 3DS

Yeah, I played Master Quest on GCN up through Jabu-Jabu, and it's rough if you have the early dungeons memorized to the extent that I do. Interesting to try though, and when I beat OoT3DS and eventually want to play it again in a year or so, I'll probably boot up Master Quest that time to have a new-ish experience.
  2. capcom doesn't want my money

I'm with Sno on this one. For me, this news was met by a big fat "meeeh." For one thing, I can't see resetting being a very major thing for a game that is essentially a series of challenge levels where you're trying to get the highest score and unlock more cool stuff. There's no plot to miss out on by coming into it halfway through. If you put it down for a year or two and want to come back to it (the reason I would wipe a save file), you'd be going in in the same situation you started the game, just with a bit more shit unlocked. Fine by me. As for used sales or whatever, if DRM is a function that makes it slightly irritating for someone to pick up the game used rather than new but doesn't actually hinder retail sales, you'd better have a vendetta against every publisher out there. EA has their thing where you get bunch of free DLC for buying new, Mortal Kombat had that thing where you can't play the multiplayer online without buying a code from them (that they included free with new copies), etc. If you do most of your gaming on the PC like me, the concept of used games is already pretty alien, so this is even less frustrating. It just seems like a totally weird thing to get upset about in this case. Capcom will not get my money for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, but not because of this. It's because I don't care about Resident Evil. If I did, this would not stop me at all.
  3. Ocarina of Time 3D

You're thinking of Wallmasters, a staple of the Zelda series (they've been in most of the games, as far as I know). You actually run into them first in the Forest Temple (first one as adult Link) and I'm pretty sure that they show up in most if not all of the adult Link dungeons. When you see your shadow start to grow, keep moving. As long as you aren't standing still, they'll plop down a few meters behind you and you can take 'em out with your sword. They don't come back after you've done this, so they're really not so bad. I'm surprised they were enough to keep you away from the game.
  4. Child of Eden

It took a single viewing of a youtube video to convince my friend Alex to buy this game tonight, so add one more sale to the tally. I'm trying to savour the game here, doing one level each time I have a chance to play it rather than blasting through it all at once. Finished level 3 today and god was it nice. With all the raving about level 4 around the web, I'm excited for tomorrow. I'm getting more used to using the Kinect for this game, though I still think my apartment may just be too small for it. It's not unplayable, just a bit twitchy. When I quickly sweep my hair out of my face with my left hand, I'm not trying to activate rapid fire, but because I'm so close to the sensor anyway the game reads it as that. Pity. I just have to try to curb those little subconscious things though, and the game plays great. And shit does it ever play great. The pushing to fire the homing shots feels fucking amazing, and I don't know if I could tell you the last time I felt this connected to a game. I gotta say, if you don't have the option of Kinect, playing this game with the gamepad is probably fine, but you're really missing out.
  5. L.A. Noire

They're all real, and all great. Wild Flag was probably my show of the festival. They have the guitarist/singer and drummer from Sleater-Kinney (since that band went on hiatus 5 years ago), if that helps your reference point. They're rad as hell. EDIT: Buzzcocks would have taken it (hell, they helped invent punk music, of course they would have), but I've seen them live before. Still, nothing beats singing along to "Orgasm Addict" live.
  6. Nintendo 3DS

For the $6 or whatever that they want for it, you'd be well served to. It's a goddamned great game, and holds its own handily against any other 2D Zelda out there.
  7. L.A. Noire

When I wanted to go watch Times New Viking, the Buzzcocks, the Muffs, Wild Flag, Shannon and the Clams, Thee Oh Sees, Fist City, and others (the named were the most memorable) play music about 5 feet from my face while I got an awesome tan. Man, that was a good weekend.
  8. L.A. Noire

Dear god, I go to a music festival for 3 fucking days and suddenly I'm the most popular dude in the world.
  9. Child of Eden

I'm enjoying it, but what with an actual music festival this past weekend haven't spent too much time with it yet. As for Kinect, mine came bundled with a special plug that the regular Kinect plug will go into, thus splitting it into a USB plug and a power cord so that it can be used with an older 360 (what I'm using it on). I understand that a newer 360 can power a Kinect directly from the unit so it doesn't require this extra step, while older ones weren't designed for it and need the power boost. Not sure what you can do in your situation, as if it came bundled with a newer 360 it probably wouldn't even include the adapter at all.
  10. Nintendo 3DS

I have Pilotwings and Rayman on cart and Donkey Kong, Super Mario Land, and Link's Awakening on VC. I may be a bit biased about Link's Awakening because it is my favourite Zelda game ever (read: I am horribly biased) but it's totally worth the money. Really, I find that all three of the VC games that I own are. They're some fantastic things. I had my reservations about Donkey Kong 94 at first, but on forumites' recommendations I picked it up and am loving it. Anyway, enough chatter. Time for me to go pick up my copy of OoT3D!
  11. Idle Trenched

I had to cancel my credit card after losing my wallet last week, but as soon as I have my new one I intend to hit the XBLM for this. My tag is, as always, Miffy495, and I would be up for a game sometime.
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

It played at our Underground Film Fest here in Calgary last year, and I was the projectionist on shift for it that night. I caught about 45 minutes of it, but as I was on the clock I didn't get to see the whole thing. It definitely struck me as disturbing and interesting, and yeah, a lot more dark than the trailer made it out to be. I'm not much of a horror movie guy, so I'm not sure how much I can say that would be that relevant to talk about, but would add my voice to yours in saying that if the premise of "LARPing getting way too real and going real bad real fast" sounds interesting to you it should definitely be looked into.
  13. Books, books, books...

Possibly George R. R. Martin? But yeah, that's what I thought first too, Patters.
  14. Ocarina of Time 3D

The only problem I ever had with the Fire Temple was running along that shrinking walkway on a timer to get the megaton hammer. Aside from that one room (and the whack-a-mole boss fight), I actually kind of like that temple. Update on my end: After losing (but the recovering) my wallet on Monday night, my credit card was cancelled as a precaution. This also cancelled my online order of Ocarina 3DS. Every store in town is sold out, and I need to wait on a new card to arrive before I can place a new order. Joy.
  15. L.A. Noire

Oh goddamnit. I figured after Red Dead I should just buy the console version if I was interested. Stupid everything.
  16. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Um... it is? I have it sitting next to my computer...
  17. Formula Thumb

Looks like just Pat and I for today then. Oh well, I'll be online and ready for a warm up run, at any rate.
  18. Ocarina of Time 3D

Oh man, do they have her speech bubbles include those little animations of the open window with the controller (DS in this case) sitting on a table? EDIT: Also, I just ordered this off the internet. I think this may be the last straw for me with retailers. I keep on giving them chances, and every single time I get disappointed. Three times this month, so far (LA Noire, Child of Eden, and now this). I'm fucking done with it.
  19. Formula Thumb

Whatever works for people, really. I'm up for either, but as I said my work schedule tomorrow may necessitate a hasty departure. Up until that departure, I'm good to play. All Wednesday is fine for me as well. I don't think we ever got a definite on that from the other two interested parties.
  20. Ocarina of Time 3D

3DS only. And from what I've heard, the 3D is actually really good. You can play it in 2D mode, but you'd have to do that on a 3DS.
  21. Ocarina of Time 3D

I went to Gamestop today and was told that if I hadn't pre-ordered I was out of luck, so I went to the HMV down the hall in the shopping centre. I asked the girl at the counter for Ocarina Of Time for 3DS, and told her that it came out yesterday. I watched her turn around and start typing "M-A-C-A-R-E..." into the computer, when another girl came up behind me and told me that they'd sold out unless I had it preordered. Ah... retail. I'll be ordering it off the internet soon.
  22. Formula Thumb

My internet is hooked up, my xbox is going through the paces of 7 months of system updates. Hopefully it'll be done these by noon tomorrow. I'll update this post when I've confirmed that nothing is bricked and that Forza 3 will launch (ie: I don't have that "surprise! Your disk drive doesn't work anymore!" thing). EDIT: Forza totally works! See you all tomorrow!
  23. There's a sequel/remake/something on XBLA called Thexder NEO, just so you know. If you're feeling nostalgic, you may want to try the demo.
  24. Formula Thumb

Just a quick heads up. My starting time for work on Tuesday got moved from 6pm to 3:30pm, so I may only be around for an hour and a half of game time on Tuesday afternoon. I'm still totally up for that, but if Wednesday might work better for people we could try and set up for that instead (or hell, as well if people want).
