I actually have my copy of Killer 7 sitting on my right speaker right now awaiting a replay (that I actually intend to finish this time). Maybe we should make a club?
-
He's not lying. The end of Wind Waker is probably second only to the end of Link's Awakening for badass Zelda endings.
-
Patters would say yes. I would say "meh."

Just finished Link's Awakening DX on my 3DS Virtual Console. Man, that game is still fucking fantastic. Also, when compared to the other offerings on the 3DS VC right now, as much as I love SML, Kirby, and have taken a liking to DK94, it really blows them out of the water for value and overall experience. SML and Kirby I can beat in under an hour, and that's BOTH games in the same hour. I must have put at least 10 into Link's Awakening, though I have no idea what the actual number is. It felt great to replay what is still one of my favourite games ever. Anyone with a 3DS and $6, if you don't own this there is something truly wrong with you.

Well, Cargo! The Quest for Gravity and Jamestown are both heavily discounted right now, so if they don't go lower beforehand I'm picking them up on the last day of the sale, but otherwise yeah. I really want both of those, but am holding off in case I buy them at the price they're at and then the next day they're on the daily deal. That would suck.

Deal. I'll be on Steam during the afternoon, so if you're starting and the time that I intend to show up is the wrong one, shoot me a quick message and I'll turn on my xbox.

I await your verdict with baited breath. I actually have a local co-op partner for EDF now, which was definitely NOT the case when the first came out (even played some with him on the big screen at work. Fucking awesome), so this is even more tempting for me.

Ha. I did that two weeks ago. Just got re-carded in time for the sale. Luckily, I already own most of what I would have bought on sale this time around. Only big purchase so far was New Vegas (with DLC), with a couple of smaller games (Frozen Synapse, Bit.Trip Runner [AWESOME]) to compliment it.

I'm so confused right now. Is this still tomorrow, or is this happening right now? If we're talking about tomorrow still, It's either noon or 1 for me, so I'll try to hop on and check things out.

I too played GTA3 on the PC. I totally love that game. Hell, I totally love all of them. I wrote my recommendation for SA based on the thinking that he'd only play one of them and be done with it. SA is, I feel, the pinnacle of the series. That includes GTAIV in my mind. I frankly don't think GTA gets better than that. I believe there was another thread not too long ago where I talked about my fondness for GTA3's Liberty City. How, after my time there in GTA3 and Liberty City Stories, I know that place like the back of my hand and could still tell you the quickest route from one point to another from memory. GTA3 is the closest a game environment has ever come to feeling like a hometown to me. That said, it's a limited game in what you can do (adding bikes and diving out of cars to Liberty in LCS made it an even better place, [though limited by the PSP] imo) and everything by SA was much more refined so as to make the overall game better. I feel that way about certain areas in Vice and San Andreas (Grove Street and the surrounding area, for example, or the North-Eastern small towns above Las Venturas, or Mount Chiliad) but not the whole map. So certainly, if you have time, play all 3. Vice City is actually my least favourite of them, but I still love it to death. If you can only play one though, I think it should be SA.

I'd split with you. Do I have you on Steam already? I'm Canadian, so it's nice and cheap for me. Also, Alpha Protocol is $5 today. It's a deeply flawed game, but it does some really interesting things with adaptive storytelling and I ended up coming away from it very impressed with what it wanted to be. It falls short, yeah, but I think it'd be worth a punt, particularly for that price.

As similar as Professor Layton is to Monkey Island? Puzzle Agent is a bit of an abberation for Telltale. Almost all of their other games are traditional point-and-click style (if not actually point and click) adventure games. They're very well done, but PA is a weird entry point if you intend to check out some of their other wares.

Yeah, it was a bit poo for that shooting gallery, actually. Still, when you just need to get a quick shot off, it's rad.

I suspect we'll transition eventually, probably sooner rather than later if Patters and Wrestle's rabid anticipation pans out. Mean time though, I'm hoping they'll become a slightly more regular thing. I would have taken Pat up on his offer on Wednesday if it hadn't been for the fact that my girlfriend came down with Strep Throat and I was on taking-care-of-her duty.

Aiming by moving the 3DS around is definitely cooler than I thought it would be. I'm finding myself using it way more than the actual stick. This is in part because the stick aiming feels way less sensitive than I remember it, but I'm finding I'm not missing it. It's really responsive and helpful.

Totally. I was actually pretty bummed with how much they toned down the crazy for 4. One of the reasons I like Saint's Row so much, honestly. GTAIV took the story parts of the GTAIII trilogy and ran with them, Saint's Row did that with the crazy.

Kirby's Adventure is rad as hell. $5 on the Wii. What are you waiting for?

Depends on what you liked more about GTAIV, really. In terms of story, Vice City is about a total jerkbag who kills a lot of people and makes a bunch of money, San Andreas is about a gangster with a heart of gold killing some corrupt cops, and GTA3 is about ???? (with a bunch of mob movie references thrown in). San Andreas is probably told the least shit-ily, but honestly none of them really have stories that are worth paying attention to. The settings are why you play them. I personally love the world of San Andreas the most, but playing the story long enough to unlock the whole thing can take a while. Comparatively, Vice City has style and is definitely cool to check out, and as it's two regions rather than 3 is unlocked in its entirety way sooner, so there's that. Still, the flyable airplanes, skydiving, jetpack stuff, and tonnes of other stuff that they added to SA makes it my favorite. No matter which one you're playing though, expect a wonderful world to dick around in with a passable-at-best (though having some cool voice actors) story hanging it all together.

Surprisingly, even the stupid camera choices remain. For example, this afternoon I got the silver scale. When Link does his "spin around triumphantly" thing, the camera still dips juuuust underwater so that the sound is a little muffled and the water makes everything look screwy.

I have, but I have way more affection for the original. Didn't play 2 until a couple of years ago, so I don't have those kinds of memories of it. It's good, but the animal companion thing always threw me. Same with 3 on the SNES. As soon as Kirby starts riding something, the game loses me a little.

Wow, this thread died fast. I posted this in the 3DS thread already, but here's what happened today. It's important.

Just gonna throw this out here (aside from the statement that I'm sure there was a 3DS friend code page somewhere...): Today. Virtual Console. Kirby's. Motherfucking. Dreamland. $4. I know it's short as hell and pretty easy (I think I beat the game while I was typing this, in fact), but I have so many amazing memories of playing this game as a kid. I didn't have my own gameboy or my own copy of the game (I played a borrowed-from-a-friend copy on my sister's Game Boy Pocket) but I still managed to play this game to death. Even at 8 or 9 years old, I could systematically destroy this game, and would do so at least once every two or three days. It was just something I'd do to relax. Got a free half hour? Whup Kirby's Dreamland. I was sort of exaggerating about beating it while typing this, but I did buy it twenty-five minutes before writing this post and started typing after the credits rolled. It's still fantastic though. The amount of personality in those sprites strikes me a lot more now that I'm older and have seen more than my share of uninspired game artwork. It really is fantastic. I don't feel bad about spending $4 on a 20-ish minute game because I know that I'm going to get at least 4 or 5 hours out of playing it over and over. If you won't, take it under consideration. If you're a big Kirby fan, as I am, get on this immediately. Just a heads up: I'm going to re-up this post in the DSiWare thread for posterity, so don't bother reading the exact block of text twice.

Yay for 'blix and subbes!

Yeah, the shadow will follow you as it gets bigger, but then it will hit it's max size and fall exactly where it hit that, giving you some time to move away. Anyway, not the biggest deal. I actually hated the floormasters way more (the first one of those was definitely in the Forest Temple) who wouldn't fall on you, being on the floor and all, but would split into three smaller ones when you attacked it. Those guys sucked. Anyway, easter egg change alert! I picked up my copy yesterday and have put in just enough time to get to the start of Dodongo's Cavern. Out of habit, I checked the windows in Zelda's courtyard in Hyrule Castle, looking for those portaits of Mario and Yoshi. They've been replaced! Y'know that puzzle you can get in the Mii Plaza of NSMB Wii? With Mario, Luigi, and two Toads riding Yoshis around? The painting appears to now be the background from that with the characters all removed. Weird. Anyway, after an hour or so of playing, this is beautiful. The graphical overhaul is all that this game needed, and parts of it are goddamned stunning now. It's such a treat to be playing this game with current gen (by Nintendo's standards) graphics. The 3D is even done well. I'm playing with the slider all the way up and haven't had a problem yet. It just looks damn good. I also like the touch screen additions. Having four items instead of three, with the Ocarina mapped to it's own separate (fifth) button just makes manoeuvring so much easier. I can see later parts of the game being vastly improved by being able to keep five items out (as I ALWAYS had the ocarina mapped to one of the C buttons back in the day) instead of 3. Awesome.
