  1. The sad sad tale of Tim Langdell

I hadn't seen any of that before. You just completely blew my mind now and I can't ever look at that smiley the same way again.
  2. Life

Everyone has given pretty good advice so far, so I'll just say that I agree and am glad that it sounds like you've come to a decision. Difficult though the conversation may be, it should still be better for you in the long run. It's the Calgary Stampede this week. I'm surrounded by drunk assholes and tourists in cowboy hats blaring loud and terrible music. I am not happy about this. On top of all of this, my opinion of my city dipped even further today when I saw the Calgary Sun's front page. The top line was a story about the 5 year old grandson of the chief of a Northern native tribe being killed yesterday in a drive by shooting. The picture on the front page was a giant photo of our prime minister (a dude who, let's be clear, during a disease outbreak on a reservation a couple of years ago arranged for them to have supplies delivered. These supplies? Not medicine, but fucking body bags. I think we can safely say he doesn't give a shit about natives) at the rodeo wearing a tacky fake native headdress and face paint. Real fucking sensitive there, Calgary. In general, Canada is pretty decent about handling racists and keeping them down, but for whatever reason it's still cool, particularly in the West, to be SUPER fucking racist towards the natives. I am incredibly ashamed of my city right now. The problem is, I truly believe that this is one of the most naturally beautiful places on the planet, and camping, hiking, cycling, etc around here is something I never want to give up. Why did some of the worst people have to make their home on top of one of the best places?

Just finished Ocarina of Time 3D. Goddamn, if I didn't already have a 3DS, knowing that this game exists would make me pine for one real bad. It was bloody great. I read that they tried their best to make it live up to people's memories of OoT, not what the game was actually like (as in, people remember it looking great when it's kind of meh, so they had to make it look awesome), but as I replay up to the Water Temple once every 18 months or so it just blew me away (IGN.com) with the updates that were made to it. The touch screen stuff works amazingly well, letting you carry 5 things where you could previously only carry 3, and I the 3D effects were incredibly subtle, yet as soon as I turned them off everything felt wrong. Basically, if you have a 3DS you should get this game, and if you don't have a 3DS maybe think about it anyway.

What? Right there in that post I mentioned that I've finished AC1. In fact, I've finished it twice. Once when it first came out, and then again last November when I was replaying all of the others in anticipation of playing Brotherhood (which I've also finished on the 360). I freaking love those games, and think that AC1 is still pretty good, just not as good as the later ones. Hell, I've beaten the PSP one twice. What I was planning to do though is replay the games again on PC before I play Revelations or whatever the next is called, especially since the PC versions have a tradition of including the paid-for DLC of the console ones for free. Since I got my PC copies of AC1 and 2 for less than $10 each, I'm waiting for the same for Brotherhood, then replaying the whole shebang.

Locking system served me just fine, and the camera as well. I didn't have a single bit of trouble with that fight. How do you have your L Targeting set up? Do you hold the button or does it stay on your target with just a click? I have it set to the latter. Maybe if you have it set to hold it's dodgier?

5 hours? Really? By the time I finished co-op, I had 16. After my second playthrough, knowing how to do everything already, I had 25. That's a good 8+ hours when I was still pretty much just blasting through it. You sure you didn't get that game clock glitch that Valve was talking about around release?

That question occurs to me pretty much every time that facebook puts out a new update. Each time it seems like it would become easier and easier to e-stalk someone, which I can't imagine is a welcome development for many a lady. Were I an attractive woman, I would probably have gotten rid of my facebook account long ago unless it were necessary for dealing with coworkers or something.

The thing that is still taunting me a little bit is Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I have the other two on PC but have yet to play them, and having just played 4 AC games 7 months ago (the 3 main and the PSP) I can't justify getting the PC version for $20 this soon. I'll pick it up when I'm going through the series again in a year or so, should be cheaper by then. That said, I'm glad I held out on $15 DoW Retribution in favour of getting $7.50 DoW Retribution today. There have been some pretty nice things on this sale, but they've mostly been little indie things. I grabbed Cargo: The Quest For Gravity and Inside a Star-Filled Sky today, and have found a lot of love in my heart for Jamestown, and Bit.Trip Runner. I also got myself Fallout: New Vegas (with all DLC), Frozen Synapse, and Prototype, which I've been wanting to try for a while for ridiculous destructive bullshit. Feels like a pretty good sale for me. I resisted the siren call of Dragon Age 2 and Shogun 2, both of which I'm sure I would enjoy, but don't think I would get more than $15-20 worth of enjoyment out of them. Resisting and saving a bit of money on those felt pretty good. Also, anyone discover games that they weren't sure they'd like that turned out to be pretty good thanks to the special achievements? I had both Swords and Soldiers HD and and A.R.E.S. already because they came in packs with other games that I quite wanted. They both had what seemed like fairly easy achievements for the summer camp activities, so I installed them and went for it. Turns out, both pretty good games. I now intend to play a fair bit more of them. Those achievements are a pretty good idea. I got 21 all told, which I cashed in for 7 prizes, which turned out to be all that I cared about. Not a great sale for big name games, but a really damn good one for indies and discovering other games that I already had but hadn't thought to play. I'm very happy with this one.

Ah, the trials of being a lady on the internet. People who don't get anonymity never seem to consider that part, do they?
  10. Ocarina of Time 3D

Double post! Just finished the Shadow Temple. That was more messed up than I'm used to from Zelda. No wonder I stopped there the first time I played this game on N64. That creeped the hell out of 10 year old me, and I ended up putting the game down there until I was 12 or so. Whenever I've attempted a replay of the game since, I usually stop at the beginning of the Water Temple, so I've only been through that temple once, and it was 11 years ago. Don't get the complaints about the boss though. Wasn't so bad, nor particularly out of place for Zelda. Weird in general, and a bit goofy, but that's par for the course as far as I'm concerned. Anyway: on to Spirit! I remember this one being weird as shit and involving crazy time warps. Interested to see how long it takes me to work out.
  11. Life

Crap. My old boss has been gone barely a week and already I'm down to around 25 hours a week to save money for the new guy. I can't live on that, especially now that I'm going back to school. Time to update the resume and get out there.
  12. Ocarina of Time 3D

Yeah, that thing. I dunno though. It looks smaller in that video than it was when I played that dungeon in 3D a couple of days ago...
  13. Ocarina of Time 3D

I just beat the Water Temple in under 2 hours. I'm pretty sure they made some changes to make it easier, or maybe I've just gotten better at Zelda, but either way that gets me past something I'd been dreading since hitting "start game" at the beginning of this. Also, re: running up that staircase to the hammer in the Fire Temple, I can now say with relative certainty that they made that stairway wider than it was on the N64 version of the game. Like, noticeably. I had not even the smallest bit of trouble getting there, when in past plays of the game it had been infuriating to me. Anyway, still loving this game, and the 3D is surprisingly great. I tried turning it to 2D for a bit just to see how I felt about it, and it looked so bland and drab by comparison. I don't know what else I could say as a person who was really skeptical of this whole "3D" thing, and put it at the bottom of their list of why a 3DS was interesting. I may be a convert.

Hiya tomaterr! Don't worry about being young. Most of us don't know until you say so. Just don't say dumb shit and you can claim to be as old as you want. Ah, internet.
  15. Idle Forums Game Club - Killer 7 edition

Man, I get linked in the OP and don't reply until the second page. Way to go me. I should be able to get a block in every two weeks. I have the GCN version still (bought it on fucking LAUNCH DAY, suckas) but when I tried to play it originally only got to the start of what you have scheduled as the third block. Maybe this will get me to actually see the end of this game. In short, I'm in, and will be playing the GCN version of the game on my Wii.
  16. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Finished it. I too have to gripe about the coins in boxes puzzle. As a Canadian, most of our coins are even the same, but I Also, that maths one at the end I was able to solve, but only because I happened to take a calculus course. I was playing with a coworker watching over my shoulder (she and I have made a habit of tag-teaming the latest telltale games whenever they come out) and she had no idea what the hell an integral was. Pro tip: If you want your game to be accessible, do not require even a intro-level knowledge of calculus to solve its puzzles. That said, I did end up enjoying the game a lot as a whole. I would gripe that it seems like story has now taken full priority over puzzles though. The puzzles seem shoehorned in and at best tangentially related to the story. In PA1, it was a bit contrived but always felt more-or-less justified.

Tonight a drunk girl came up to me and said "My friends and I think you look JUST like Badger from Breaking Bad!" Time for a haircut, methinks.

I'd try, but my game time (at home) is fairly limited. Still, I'd be willing to give it a punt.

The thumb games were always scheduled for weekends when I'm stuck working matinees. If there's going to be a resurgence in community attention, I could be quite easily convinced to re-install the game.

After hours of internet problems, I finally get myself back online and... Forza won't let me joing. Bummer. Hope you guys had fun.

I've still got my A-class Yaris!
  25. Formula Thumb

To be clear, I'm fucking terrible. I'm in it for the conversation and good times. I'm usually just racing a factory-spec car in whatever class those who are good at the game (Pat and Wrestle) are in and trying to keep up. Last time, I didn't get a single "DID NOT FINISH" time, a personal best!
