  1. Game Boy Micro? Why?

To me the DS obsoletes the GBA (UNLESS you already have a GBA), so for people to just go and buy another GBA just for its size, knowing that there is a much better portable device that can play both GBA and the ultra fun DS games sounds a little simple. Plus from when was a smaller screen a good thing in games? This is not an ipod or cell phone where you don't need to LOOK at the thing. I just think the whole idea of a smaller screen is stupid.
  2. Game Boy Micro? Why?

Yeah I also thought that the GBA micro is not a very smart decision. Also, I am confused, doesn't the DS play all GBA games? Why would you want a DS and a GBA micro?
  3. The positive thread

How can we say positive things when the sad smily face here looks like this
  4. Gaming Dead ? Not really...

It's a given that everyone here, or almost everyone loves Psychonauts. Just look at my avatar for god's sake.
  5. Gaming Dead ? Not really...

It's not fair to tell me to compare them because they came out in different times. I think wolf 3d had a much bigger impact on me liking games than return to castle wolfenstein did. When I played Wolf 3d back in 94, it was one of the most fun games I've ever played till this day. But remember, wolf 3d was maybe not the first FPS but among the very very first ones, so it was something new for me. That is what made it so special, and what makes games like Katamari or ICO, or beyond good and evil shine.
  6. Gaming Dead ? Not really...

I have been to E3 this year, and to be honest, I was astonished at the level of mediocrity I saw. Literally, I was looking for a game to be excited about, and most of them were crappy rehashes or sequels, or an FPS "with a twist". Yes there was Okami and maybe Shadow of the Collusus and Odama (which surprise!! are all Japanese), but it was easy for these games to shine when everything else was so unoriginal. I dunno, maybe I have played way too many games and I expect more now. For example, I am replaying now Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. The technology is now obsolete and the graphics suck, and even the puzzles are torturous. But the game is still fun to play, the story still interesting after 11 years. You know, back in 97, I played Fifa and I loved it. It was something new, exciting, a soccer game that feels fresh. After 9 iterations, it looks slightly better, new rosters but I am bored to death with it. Interesting stat for you. Among the 10 top selling games last year, only one was not a movie licence or a sequel and that is Fable (not that original of gameplay as well). Even in the top 50 the number of original games was very small. You want proof of mediocrity, look at the next gen lineup of games, and point me to a game that is exciting to you. Am I the only one who is not excited about buying a PS3 or 360 because the games on it seem like the same old crap? The only platform that seems to capture my interest these days is the DS and I've never been a handheld gamer except in the old days of the Game and watch. It has what most of the flashy "well designed" games lack today, FUN.
  7. Prince of Persia 3

Thanks for the link, I downloaded it, and it was one of the worst endings I've ever seen. No wonder they have it super hidden.
  8. Sin 2 Episodes

Check it out Sin 2, the sequel to the original little known Sin game is going to be available for download in episodic format on Valve's Steam. It will also be powered by the Source engine. Man I am loving Valve more and more everyday. This is kinda related to Chris's article (very remotely), but what do you guys think of episodic games and digital distribution? Wave of the future or just a passing trend?
  9. Prince of Persia 3

Kolzig, where I can watch this real ending??? Also why did they put as the real ending that you kill Kaileena, if that is going to be a major plotline in the third one. Shouldn't they have put that as the hidden ending? It just seems to me they are making the story as they go, trying to kiss up to everybody, the sales department, marketting, the WW fans, the reviewers, the SOT fans, and what they got is a game with a very weird identity, that doesn't know if it wants to be Mature or Teen.
  10. DS release list

For all you DS buffs, here's a new title for you to rejoice about (or not???). Resident Evil DS EDIT: Nevermind I just saw that Marek had that as an action news more than a day ago You guys are really fast in covering the news
  11. An article for your perusal

Different people have different notions of the word hardcore gamer. On other forums, beating God of war in god mode, or beating Ninja Gaiden is for the "hardcore gamer". On other sites like this one, being open to many kinds of games like Nintendo games or Psychonauts is hardcore. But the other sites than diss people who play Nintendo games as not being hardcore because Nintendo games are "kiddy" games and thus casual. On other sites, only playing FPS is hardcore, although I've heard people say that Halo is not hardcore because it sold a gazillion copies. So like you, I have no clue what hardcore means. It just seems that people use the word hardcore to imply something like "I am hardcore. I know my shit".

My girlfriend loves the original Mario on the NES as well. She bought a DS just to play Mario, and she got the 2D GBA version. She hates the 3D Mario 64 though. And low and behold, Psychonauts is one of her favorite games ever. If it wasn't for me, she would never in her lifetime hear about or play Psychonauts.
  13. Sin 2 Episodes

From Gamespot's review: "Sin is for the first-person shooter fan who wants more of the same, done just a little different, but done right. Too bad that's just the sort who'd be especially intolerant of its bugs and occasional shortcomings. Nevertheless, if you're looking for guns, blood, and action, not to mention one of the best deathmatch games of the year, you'll get your money's worth."
  14. San Andreas (PC)

I really liked San Andreas the most. The storyline was fun, and the missions were very balanced and doable. Also living in San Francisco, the game really felt like playing at home I remember in VC being stuck for a few days on the damn RV missions, and there were at least a few of them. Also for a game that took place near the water, it was so lame that you don't know how to swim. There was nothing more frustrating than going on a long boat mission, just to die when stepping out of the boat And how about the ability to climb? How many times were you stuck in a corner not able to fend off the cops. On the other hand, San Andreas was definitely not perfect. There was a lot of unnecessary driving and the environment did feel empty because of the size of it. But I thought there was enough variety in the gameplay that it kept it interesting for me, after 50+ hours of gameplay.
  15. Rockstar Presents the Warriors

Earthworm Jim 3D was from rockstar? Wow I had no idea. They don't even mention it on their website. Maybe it is too tame it would tarnish their reputation. By the way, there is definitely Max Payne and Max Payne 2 which are 2 very good games, but they were developed by Remedy so I am not sure if they count.
  16. Rockstar Presents the Warriors

No it was definitely no GTA, much more streamlined, and you went around shooting people to avenge the death of your father or some cliche them like that. As someone has said here, GUN looks exactly like what you are yearning for.
  17. Rockstar Presents the Warriors

Besides Grand Theft Auto what was a good rockstar game? I hated Manhunt, and Red Dead Revolver got very boring very quickly.
  18. XBOX 360 price and bundle pack a go go

Usually a save anywhere requires much more disk space. Not only do you have to capture the stats (like what's your health at, how much magic do you have, what items are in your inventory, what level are you in) but more information like where is your position in the game, which direction are you facing, how many enemies are on the screen at that snapshot of time, what is their direction, are there any bullets flying at you etc... Just look at a KOTOR save file and it is something like 10 Megs, so if you have a 64 Meg memory card, that is 6 KOTOR files. Some games give the illusion of saving anywhere but in reality they put you in the nearest checkpoint (example Psychonauts). I'm not sure how Eternal Darkness utilizes that. Is it like Psychonauts, or like KOTOR?
  19. XBOX 360 price and bundle pack a go go

By the way, anyone knows how long it took the XBOX and the PS2 to drop down in price?
  20. XBOX 360 price and bundle pack a go go

I know That means your next Bioware game will not have save anywhere, because each save file in KOTOR was like 10 MBytes. More checkpoints in next gen.
  21. XBOX 360 price and bundle pack a go go

They do provide a controller, just a wired one. No Hard drive. And no High definition cable. Basically, don't bother with the 299.99 package.
  22. XBOX 360 price and bundle pack a go go

Totally agreed. And charging 99 dollars for a 20 GB hard drive and 50 dollars for a controller is ultra greedy.
  23. BFME2 - Another reason to hate EA!

I didn't like Battle for middle earth that much. It just wasn't as fun as Warcraft 3 or Command and Conquer Generals. I hope BFME 2 will be more fun that the original.
  24. San Andreas (PC)

Where do you find this chick?
  25. Psychonauts postmortem in Game Developer

Well Majesco had to pay for the marketting, packaging, and publishing and distribution. Plus about a year of development cost I presume? I still can't find Psychonauts neither for the XBOX or PC in any store I go to. I really don't understand how a game can sell if it's not displayed.
