    Whoooohooooooo! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOONYBOI!
  2. Willy Wanka & The Chocolate Factory

there is (of coures) a great episode of family guy about this... I had no idea that there was such a movie untill yufster started this thread. now all of that makes sense. BTW The name of that family guy episode is Pawtucket Pat ...
  3. PS3 Game Demos at E3 Fake.

come on seriously! how could anyone think that killzone 3 (???) was actual game footage? there was no visible interface and no believable interaction!
  4. PS3 Game Demos at E3 Fake.

    no
  5. "in the mould of Doom - but without the gore"

Sorry but seriously, THOSE AREN'T CHRISTIANS! those are Homophobic epsilon semi-morons...
  6. Spore presentation from GDC now available!

yeah I'm sorry but this is just one game this is not the first of a revolution. I have no doubt about the success of spores because the hardcore sceene by now is strong enough to support its babies but it's not going to sell like Halo 2 or GTA:SA so nothing is going to change. change will take time... About the graphics: I certainly hope that they do some more work on the skin-texture-procedures as of now they still look pretty shitty and I would certainly enjoy it way more to create better looking creatures.
  7. Custom Vans for Remo fans

yeah don't mind yufster, she's doing her own intervention/exorcism
  8. Spore presentation from GDC now available!

Will Wright has to be the proverbial mad scientist. The amount of knowledge and enthusiasm he shows during this presentation is mindboggling to a degree it's almost (but not really) scary. The way he looked at the evolution of algorithms versus data was inspiring and novel. The game he showed was very interesting to me and in this presentation first and foremost a credit to his procedural approach, showing that it is actually not only feasible but also quite simply (without exaggeration) genius. I for one thought this and the presentation by Takashi on Katamari Damascy where actually able to make some really good points not only in the show and tell sense (or should I say "hey this is my new game sense"?). Talking about Spore as a game is an intirely different matter. What was shown at this meeting -to me- makes it quite difficult to judge how fun it is to play this game. The whole idea is utterly briliant and the real question for me is if it manages to stay interesting. The whole creation/evolution process seems to be fun but it remains to be seen if once you have built your first creature it will manage to stay interesting. What we saw however is not a good guide to understand how it works, as there is undoubtedly going to be a lot of challenges on the way that Wright - in order to get to the stuff that was most interesting to him - just skipped. The other big question to me is how tight and immersive the world is going to be. Will the gravity of different planets together with the atmosphere make for entirely different possibilities. Is the development of vegetation and the simulation of an ecosystem part of the program or will that be just an afterthought? How does technology work? Will you have to do research? All this and lots more still remains to be seen. However at this point I have to say just playing around with it the way Wright did could probably occupy me happily for a couple of weeks...
  9. Gears of War on HelloGamer

There's a video of the new Epic project "Gears of War" on Hellogamer.com. While watching the video I was simply amazed by the overall BAD feeling I managed to have about this. I mean it hits all the stereotype buttons! It's set in a postapocalyptic world where you play a badass army dude with big guns and fight gothic/steampunk/mutant monsters. So Cliffy B comes on and goes on about how he always wanted to do a tactic/survival horror type game... still I think it could be good, I mean it runs on the new Unreal Engine! And then I see the footage and I just can't believe it. I mean on a certain level they set a new standard for non-immersion. You really have to check it out for yourself! So not only is it third person, no the camera which is placed off the right shoulder of our avatar zooms in each time you shoot... hahahahahahahahahaha [linkage]
  10. Yes or No?

To me there can only be one decision. As a no vote would effectively put a stop to European integration. I think it is stupid to put up a referendum like this at all. It's not like we (the people) get to vote on matters of law within a national context and there are many many reasons why this is the case which I don't really feel like listing here. The referendum should have been on a more basic level that all people can easily understand. If the US could do it in 1789 you would think the Olde Worlde could do it in 2005... So please Vote YES, Rodi is right, progress in this case must be maintained at ALMOST any cost.
  11. Domo aligato Mr. Hideo

yeah or that great one from Douglas Adams about the evolution of men... and dinners... unfortunately I find myself unable to quote from memory here... but that Mark Twain one is really nice
  12. Domo aligato Mr. Hideo

judging by the video he put out earlier I think the guy is lost... a lost genious... also he doesn't even go into desserts! what's up with that! THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE DINNER EDIT: Oh and what about breakfast and elevensies and brunch and lunch and tea?
  13. Gamer's Manifesto

hey! ok... excessive bitchiness... granted... anway. There was no link here so I guess it was a good thing to link it.
  14. Gamer's Manifesto

ok, I of course do know who Ron was supposed to be and even though I am an avid admirer of the man's games I don't give two fucks if he posted something on his site and I APPEAR to repost it here on the Thumb. What's the point in pointing that out baconian? Apart from being an "insufferable knowitall" or maybe even a little pain up the bum?
  15. Gamer's Manifesto

yeah well I found it on HelloGamer.com... so who the Fuck is RON???
  16. GDCTV - Molyneux on moving gameplay forward

Just use the old linkage... Wow, what an awesome talk. Now I am angrier than ever for not getting to play Katamari yet. I really like Takahashi's vision and I think we can't get enough people like that in the games industry. Maybe it will take some time, but I sincerely hope that more people start to think about games that way. His remark about not wanting kids to spend all their time in front of his games... awesome! Great guy, great talk! All hail Keita Takahashi.
  17. Boycott Star Wars III

Well you can obviously do as you please, but to me these movies are what "Going to the Movies" is all about. These are the kind of films you really should see on the big screen!
  18. Boycott Star Wars III

Ok so here's the deal: There is really no point to talk about Star Wars anymore, is there? I would like to state that everyone who was going to see it, should do so. In a lot of ways Episode III is exactly what was to be expected. There is no reason to talk about it, so let's just let it rest at that. The rest is silence...
  19. Ps3

well I am sorry and appalled. I apologize for the bad info, but until now heise.de has been quite reliable. It turns out that the whole article was a halfassed thing done by one of their junior writers. My thanks go out to Graeme for taking the time and effort to set things straight. It turns out that even though the R500 (the 360s GPU) is in some ways comparable to the X700 there are differences in its architecture that make such a simple comparison unjustified and meaningless.
  20. New Zelda details

I guess he felt not appreciated in the way he needed to be appreciated. So I guess he's better off somewhere else, where he feels more apreciated to his own liking...
  21. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - latest screenshots

okay screw the stuff about the clothes... It's just too colourful and it doesn't feel right.
  22. Nintendo Revolution

No not really. It's all relative... seriously...
  23. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - latest screenshots

actual colours from those times. Sure there were some really great colours back then, but most people wore undied cloth. I know this, because I used to be interested in stuff and then I started playing video games...
  24. New Zelda details

    you go girlfriend
  25. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - latest screenshots

yeah well... the animations were stilted and there was no natural "flow" to the world. as far as the mediaeval look is concerned, I don't think the colors are right for that. they were too bright. I think going with a more "earthen" tone would make it feel more authentic.
