  1. I find it funny that Halo 2 is a candidate for Best Shooter and most Disappointing Game.

Also, didn't they invent a Most Pretentious Game category last year? I think they like to slam specific games just by making up one-time categories (like the Baditude thing).

  2. The enemy utterances are continuously off the mark. There's this one enemy who's made out of crows or something that you have to kill three times, and each time he dies he materialises someplace else. When I killed him the first time and then ran off to kill him again he was yelling things like "Defeat does not suit you, prince!" even though I just killed him.

I didn't have any problems with sound effects, though.

  3. I don't think a lot of people put that much faith in Gamespot's reviews anymore (I don't, at least), but their KOTOR II review is up, with a score of 8.5.

    http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/rpg/kotor2/review.html

The Sith Lords' morally ambiguous storyline has a number of poignant moments along these lines, and since much depends on the decisions you make and the traveling companions you take with you, there will be plenty left to see after you've finished the game for the first time. It also has some nice throwbacks to the original story, most notably in the form of several returning characters whom you'll probably appreciate seeing (and hearing) again.

Man, I tried to pick out an outstandingly interesting paragraph, but the whole review, I thought, was pretty dull.

Anyway, it seems to be just as good as KOTOR, with the lower ranking apparently being because the graphics aren't any better than the first one. There's also some apparent technical glitches, which will hopefully be fixed by the time the PC version comes out.

  4. I definitely don't plan on buying WW. That game is already surely going to outsell SOT, and they don't need one more sale to confirm their idiotic demographic targetting.

I hope that Ubisoft's apparent policy of listening to their critics above their fans on SOT will extend to this game as well, resulting in less shitty games after this... but I really, really wouldn't bet the house on it.

  5. Man, I hope in the next Prince of Persia you can steal cars.

The Eurogamer review Tycho links to in his post is one of the better WW reviews I've read (better than Gamespot's, certainly). Also, apart from the unlockable concept art it refers to, there's also an 'Weapons Gallery' for you to unlock. :shifty:

    Other random points of interest:

    1) It's startingly easy to decapitate people, even when you don't know what you're doing.

    2) For those of you who were holding out hope that Godsmack wouldn't suck, you are wrong.

I think I'll leave the memory of Sands in Time intact and avoid this one.

    That's the smart bet, yeah.

  6. It's as much your fault as it was that dumb sales clerk.

    ...shut up. :shifty:

Trust me, it's not like I make a habit out of pre-ordering things, there isn't any kind of arrogance on my part which makes me feel like I need the game right now, and if I did feel that it would certainly be for a game other than fucking Warrior Within.

Don't be so stupid as to try to be the first brat on the cyber block to get the damn game, what exactly are you to gain from that, tell me?

Well... a free game, in this case, one I actually want and one I think I would like.

For one thing, pre-orders are never guaranteed to arrive on the day of launch, there are factors such as the publisher delaying the game, supply shortage, and others.

Well, you're right about this, I pre-ordered Warrior Within back before it was confirmed that it would suck. Still, I am playing Sands of Time now, so I don't feel too fucked over.

Number one rule of engagement: You're not allowed to go on a defensive.

    FUCK YOU TREP FUCK YOU

  7. Well, it actually worked out better than I expected - I went in today and it turned out to be a situation where one guy was stupid rather than the management making a concerted effort to screw me.

This one guy (not the guy who screwed up) actually went to another branch to get me a copy of Sands of Time, which was ultra cool of him, thereby restoring my faith in the store and also humanity.

Oh, I played a bit of Warrior Within, and the 'mature tone' is, indeed, pretty lame. On the other hand, the line "I am the Prince of Persia - and the king of blades!" is clearly hilarious.

  8. I don't know if anyone saw this, or cares, but these are TIME's ten best video games of 2004, apparently. The only thing I was really struck by was how (with the possible exception of #4) bland and predictable the choices were. Also the first line is "It's no secret that video games aren't just for kids anymore." :shifty: Yeah, thanks for that.

    Anyway, here's the list:

    1. The Sims 2

    2. Rome: Total War

    3. Half-Life 2

    4. Katamari Damacy

    5. San Andreas

    6. Battlefield: Vietnam

    7. Halo 2

    8. Burnout 3

    9. Fable

    10. Pirates! (is that even out yet?)

Shocked? Confused? I know I am!

  9. Pre-orders could be considered useful in the case of a game that you already know rocks or at least have a solid hunch will rock, because the store might decide to stock the game because they see that there's a demand for it based on pre-orders.

I don't, however, know whether or not VG stores do inventory based on this, it just seems like a logical business move.

Stores stock games that are widely known to rock anyway, though, right? I mean, with something like Half-Life 2, I don't think any stores needed to be aware of a pre-order demand for them to order more than a couple of copies, and I wouldn't have thought anyone would have needed to pre-order it either.

I do see where your example would work in the case of something like, say, Psychonauts, which clearly has a pretty devoted following but isn't that widely known.

Also, I too have no idea how this works, so this is possibly irrelevant.

Oh and welcome to the forums!

    Thanks!

  10. Man, do I want Katamari Damacy, but living in a PAL country apparently means that won't happen soon.

Honestly, I don't understand the whole pre-order deal. I mean, unless you want Halo 2 or something, you can still buy the game the day it's released, right? Lame indeed.

  11. So, okay.

Like, a month ago, I preordered Warrior Within - which I would have done under no other circumstances - because there was allegedly some special offer where you get Sands of Time free with preordering.

So I go in today - Warrior Within comes out tomorrow here - for some reason I forget and I ask them when I'm getting this 'free game' and then I find out that I was supposed to get it way back when I preordered it. Not only that, but the offer has since expired and they don't have any copies of Sands of Time in stock. So now I'm locked in to Warrior Within, having already paid some of it.

Man, what the hell was the point of that? Oh, preorders are bad probably.

    (Oh, first post: yay.)
