2006, yeah. Like I said, it only started here late last year, which is cool now because it'll give me time to catch up before the fourth season starts. Also cool is that they're running the second season right after the first. The first episode of that just aired here, so that's where I'm at. Little disconcerting to go right from teenage black drug dealers to fat white dockworkers, but other than that, awesome. Deadwood I keep meaning to get into but I never really gave it a chance. I did watch the first episode, but didn't think it was that great. Possibly, though, it was because of the shit reception I get in my dorm room, so I could only see it in really fuzzy black and white.

This is probably going to make me sound like a prick, and I'm seriously not aiming this at anybody, but quite honestly I find the whole 'I'm superior because I don't watch television' attitude just as outdated, snobbish and annoying as 'of course I don't play video games, those are for kids'. Arrested Development is great, yeah. Since you namechecked HBO, do you watch The Wire? It started airing here a few months ago and it's just so incredibly awesome. One of the best things on television ever, and I would say the best thing on television like, at all, for the last two or three years. Er, yeah, anyway, WoW: I'm probably never going to play it because of time and money issues. Also I'm not at all into MMORPGs. I understand this is supposed to be the one that changes all that, but still.

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6120427/index.html Link stolen from Trep who I think got it from someone else anyway. It's pretty decent. Disappointingly, Schafer doesn't say a lot, which is sad because typically I love anything he writes. A few other comments: From someone who has played both those games, YEAH NO KIDDING.

Those Prince of Persia maps are great. They remind me that I never actually finished that game, and I did nothing but try. EDIT: Christ, I remember this. That was one crazy ass level. Man, and this. Oh, and .png'>THIS. That was just one weird ass game.

'!!!!111' This includes the recent extension of the above which adds 'oneoneoneone'. Still not funny. Thank you.

He also had magical flying boots that you traded for a cure to your zombie disease, I believe. Yeah, good plan.

Oh, was that the obese mechanical dwarf who lived with all the zombies in that one mage's basement? Holy shit, that is one sentence I never thought I'd write.

I avoided the main quest for like the first two months I played it, I think, mostly because it was really dull when compared to all the side quests. But then I basically exhausted all the subquests and became the Knight of the Imperial Dragon or whatever the hell it was called, which actually sucked because no one treated me any different - despite the fact that I was apparently the highest ranked militairy person in the land - and I didn't even get anything really cool. So I think now I'm halfway through the main quest but it's just so fucking dull. Also I hate having to go up to those asshole Dunmer who live in the most remote, inaccessible part of Morrowind for plot advancement. Fucking Dunmer, I hate them.

Start over?! Man, isn't Morrowind like three thousand hours long? I've been playing it for nearly five months now and I'm pretty sure I'm only like, level thirteen or something. (I haven't played it for at least a month, though.) I don't know anything about enchanting items, but I'd try and do what Metallus suggested.

...holy shit, I never noticed that. Oh man.

I think for Ubisoft's Prince of Persia the magic number was 2. I agree with you, though. It's so much better to end on a high note than 'oh, are they still making that'? Actually, like with your Star Trek example, that syndrome seems to happen a lot more with television than with games (X-Files, I'm thinking). That's actually part of the reason why I'm legitimately looking forward to Myst V. Although Myst, admittedly, is kind of at the point where the only thing people really care about is whether it's in 2D or not. Still, I really like that Cyan's actually deciding to END it rather than saying 'well, we could make these Myst things forever!' and then have the series cancelled before they could get to an ending they actually wanted to do.

I really hope that this will be the last Prince of Persia, or rather the last XTREME PRINCE OF VAGUE FOREIGN REGION. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure that it will be, mostly because everyone seems to be strongly into that whole trilogy deal nowadays. Plus with Warrior Within they were definitely setting up this next game to be the most ultimate, significant, violent, bestest Prince of Persia game ever. Although I could be reading this all wrong, I'm still not at all sure what HAPPENED at the end of Warrior Within. It was like the writers were getting off on being convoluted. Or they were just shitty storytellers.

Because it's far less embarassing (well, to a point) to say oh, 3D will never be as good as prerendered 2D than saying to play Dreamfall I'm going to have to get a new graphics card, and I don't feel I should have to. I think some adventure gamers have gotten comfortable with the fact that adventures are pretty conservative when it comes to hardware requirements. Moment of Silence or Syberia or Still Life you could probably run on a computer that's almost five years old. I think this comes back to that "adventure gamers are smarter than other gamers" elitism, where full screen anti aliasing, physics, AI, GeForce 90000 and stuff like that are associated with hardware-pushing games like Doom and Half-Life which are, as we know, games for stupid people. And none of that has any place in an adventure game, thank you very much. The only system requirement that I need is my BRAIN! Not your fancy graphics cards! Okay this is getting a little schizophrenic, so let's move carefully away from that. I mean, I get indignance from the adventure gamers crowd sometimes. HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST I BUY A GAMEPAD, I USE A MOUSE AND KEYBOARD. THIS GAMEPAD SUGGESTION IS LAUGHABLE, that sort of thing. Fuck, I'm doing it again. Oh, for an example, wasn't there that guy you were arguing with like six months ago who was pissed because he couldn't play new adventure games and was adamant that adventures should still be made for his Celeron 200 or something? And that it was an actual, binary style vs. substance situation?

At this point, I honestly think they just really don't want to buy a better computer, and are furiously trying to rationalise it.

Um, what if it only looks human but really is an alien? o_0

This does the trick. Actually I can't really say that because I knew that too and I don't even know HOW. -
Yeah that'll happen.

They've gone too far this time... (The Apocalypse is Nigh?)

His comics have been pretty consistently bad for the last couple of years. I will back you up on that. -
Actually I have to agree, that was pretty unsettling, Kingz.

Who, David Willis? Why's he a jerk? -
Same here, pretty much. I'm still amazed by the fact that it's been out in New Zealand, for about two weeks already. Like, before half the world, apparently. I remember stores were doing a midnight launch thing when it was released, which is kind of sad in retrospect because I don't think anyone bought one. Even a friend of mine who is incredibly into Nintendo is passing it over for the PSP.

So with no games that really interest me coming out between now and Psychonauts (and I don't think I'm ever going to finish Myst or Morrowind) I'm thinking about picking this up. I'm hesitant because the initial impressions seemed to be "wow, this game is funny and original and excellent!" and now it's kind of died down and become "it's kind of buggy and awkward and not that great." So has anyone here played it? What did you think?
