Really? Woah... I just beat Garshap 2 and wow, the first game was mediocre, but fun in cheesy charming way, but this? This is so lazy, repetitive and broken it's even more hilarious! I know Garshap was short, but this can be beat in about an hour and you're basically going in circles doing variations of the same battles and puzzles. And it was definitely not tested enough, enemies falling to their death and worst of all, areas where you are supposed to make enemies fall in a trap, but the lever takes so long to pull you have to fight them normally. It was hilarious!

Today I finished my first Droid game... Ron Gilbert and David Grossman worked on it! It was Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside! What?! They are fun to play! I love clicking on everything and seeing silly things happen! Pajama Sam has the voice of Spinelli from Recess and Bobby Hill from King of the Hill... The weirdest part of the game was the quiz where it asked me about programming languages... Isn't this a kids game? Why would a kid even know what a programming language is? It also seems this game has some replay value since puzzles may change? Although I'm not sure if only the original game does because this is a port, obviously.

Well, if the whole purpose of the UI and potentially "SteamBox" is this, then I guess it's an appropriate interface. It's just I find the huge buttons these interfaces use ugly

Everything looks too "tablet-y" and "console-y" and as much as I love the tablet I just got... having my computer look like a tablet feels like a downgrade.

Miasmata - Ye Olde Cartography, Falling Down Hills, Drowning, Getting Eaten by a Grue Simulator

Yeah, I read the tutorial, but I didn't understand that they'd magically appear in every lab, I thought I'd have to trek back to which ever lab had them, that's a relief. -
Wow, Steam's Big Screen mode is as ugly as Windows 8.... I wonder if I can hold out until Windows 9 or until people come to their senses.
-
Frankly, seeing how ugly Windows 8 is, a Steambox seems like a great idea now. XP

I have a hunch that the beast is just protecting some ingredients, speaking of which. I'm guessing each ingredient is probably far away, so how would I even make the cure? Would I have to carry each flower which me at all times? -
I just got a droid tablet for my birthday, it's mainly for books, comics and... ScummVM. At this moment I'm playing Day of the Tentacle and I feel like I'm a little kid again! 8D It's hard getting used to the controls, the FAQ says the camera button is the right click, but my tablet doesn't have a button for the camera. I have a Cthulhu game from some indie bundle, but that's about it... I'm probably going to get the Humongous games that are on Android, and Mame, but I don't know what else to put on it. What's the equivalent of TouchArcade for Droids? Man adventure games look great on this tablet. Has anybody tried the Dosbox for Droid? I wouldn't mind having Commander Keen and Jill of the Jungle on this thing.... I know I'm going to complain about the terrible controls, but I want to play all my old games on this thing. I don't know if this is off-topic, but what do kind of case do you use for a tablet? This isn't like an iPod, there are cases with support, cases that are like folders, sleeves.... It was easier when you just have to choose the design, not the type. :|

It's a bit of a stretch, but it's the symptoms that really seem silly, When you start blacking out and seeing fuzzy or double due to a fever, you are probably too sick to even walk. Hmm, this game seems to be more or a bad influenza sim that anything else if you think about how the character acts. -

I finally reached the end of the line from the last note which seems to lead to an ingredient for the cure. My main worry now is... just how big is this island? The region I uncovered on the map looks so tiny that I'm worried this island will be as big as Just Cause 2 or something ridiculous like that. I really don't like that fever seems to be main ailment here, I fell from a cliff trying to reach a landmark and... got a fever... What?! As someone who has the flu and has just experienced a real fever this is just ludicrous. -

Yeah, I understand the triangulation concept, it's just that I'm having trouble finding the "corners", I can see some points from way afar that I haven't discovered yet. But doesn't that make it hard when you have to create a map for a new area, you have to able to view two landmarks from an area you have already discovered from the area, which is not that easy... Maybe I should try to map easier areas first before reaching the next destination? If I understand the health system right, you can always heal by sleeping and only need medicine for longer treks? -
Yeah, doesn't one of the Metal Gear game actually tell you to turn off your system? If you turned it off, you were tricked, but narratively it's logical, you could claim you game ended there, it wasn't the real ending, but a bad ending is more valid in the narrative than saying the game ends because you say so.

I got this on the sale and... It's kinda boring? What bother's me the most is the map making you can't make a map without two "landmarks" and you can't use landmarks you haven't already added to the map. it's rather frustrating that you HAVE to have TWO landmarks in view at all times and it's a bit annoying that I get fever every six seconds and I'm too weak to even walk properly. I'm still at the "end of the tutorial", and I got a map to the next location, but I couldn't find any landmark in that path except for one head on a lake. Does the character stop being a wimp who slips and slides everywhere if I get the right medicine? This is just silly! -
I don't get the "just put it down and quit" point, mostly because you are apparently adding a narrative to your "fading to blackout by quitting" ending by saying they did something by quitting the game. It feels weird to assume they can even make it home or call for help, it's almost like saying that by not finishing a sad story, you avoid the sad parts and it never happened. It's like the sketch in Friends where Joey puts books in the freezer?

When I entered this thread I could only think of The Cave and Double Fine Adventure, but every game people mention piques my interest.. As for fears, I could post the obligatory fear of Angry Birds taking over the world, but I am getting worried seeing each year companies I like disappear forever. I fear a big name company going down for good or at least relegated to a much MUCH lower status. THQ might not exist when 2013 ends, Capcom and Konami seems to losing their status faster than I'd like. It's going to be a weird year, it seems some companies are waiting for the "next gen" to come before making their next "AAA" game, which would explain why most of the games people are waiting for are for PC. I do expect a lot "HD remakes/remixes", mostly because they'll want to get all PS2/Xbox and PC games from that era ported to PS3 and 360 so they can start all over again by porting PS3 and 360 games for the "next gen" systems as trilogies/packs. Oh, and I'm pretty sure we'll get a new Blackwell game this year, that has me excited!

I did some remixes once, here is another one

Welcome back! Nice remix! :3 -
I can't help to notice that the interesting and/or complex narrative-wise games you mentioned are also very VERY short, I could say this is a point towards my resource idea if they weren't indie and had few resources to begin with. But it did make me thing something else, shorter games could be better for games that experiment in the narrative, because a longer narrative is harder to focus on? In a great long narrative experience you remember the high points, but in the shorter narratives you might remember everything. Spec Ops is relatively short, so I can remember the narrative better, if the game was any longer I might have forgotten a lot more about the game, which would probably diminished my experience with it. Heck, I practically forgot my original mission since Walker had convinced me that his idea for the mission was the real one.
-
I think the question is, can gaming actually allow a more complex narrative structure? Not only would we need writers capable of making it all cohesive in the end, but programming-wise it sounds like a nightmare. Has the gaming industry gotten that good at the "choose your own adventure" style anyway?
-
The cartography part sounds interesting, I have no idea if having a good sense of direction will translate well into a game world though. Which is why I'm curious.
-
Miasmata is 50% for 12 hours and I'm probably going to get it. Even if I don't like in the end, it looks like a game I would at least like to try.

I should have been move specific, by "did nothing" I mean that the ending didn't seem to acknowledge many of the choices at the ending, unless But I entirely disagree with the "just walk away", if they mean that me as a gamer should just walk away from a game I disagree with that's one thing, but since when is it OK for a soldier to walk away from it's duty? Wouldn't you just get a court-martial? Sure they do plenty of things that would have gotten him a court-martial anyway, but still "just walk away" seems like a cheap and lazy option. People need you, but you have to make difficult choice, which you will not like... just walk away! Imagine if wondered if Lee should have just walked away from Clementine in the beginning of the Walking Dead just because you didn't like the difficult choices of Walking Dead. Walking away from tough choices is never a good choice unless you are never aware of the choice. I assume a soldier is always aware of the tough choices ahead, he just can't walk away, that's desertion, defection... it's bloody treason! The game forces you to make tough choices, many that are completely unnecessary, all trying to enforce this ludicrous idea that you can just walk away from it.
