  1. Why can't I enjoy System Shock 2?

I'm just done with the training and I keep pressing buttons I expect to work in other games, I'm not used to these kind of controls... I can't even tell if I can enter the bar at the training area or I'm just stupid.... :| EDIT: JEESUUUUS! Even on Easy this game is intense! D: Can you make your inventory bigger?
  2. I can't remember if we ever discussed "moon logic" in adventure games, but I'm pretty sure we never discussed toon logic. As far as I know, you only encounter toon logic in comedic adventure games, since sometimes the puzzle is a joke and the solution is the punchline, not the result of the solution, but the solution itself. In case it isn't clear what toon logic is, it's when when a solution shouldn't work in a normal world, but would because it would in a nonsense cartoon world. If the item is a homonym or looks like the item you need, but isn't, that's toon logic. Or what you would do if you were Mr. Bean. Does that coffee need milk? Pour some white paint, it will be fine. Need to start a fire? Use the item that would upset your friend's the most as kindle! A cream that vanishes blemishes should make whole things vanish if I use enough, right? I'm not sure if anybody has played the recently released Deponia games, but to me there were a pure joy and almost pure toon logic. The same goes for Daedelic other series: Edna & Harvey, but I noticed a lot of people claiming none of the puzzles made sense. And then I noticed how young the people who made these complaints. I don't know the average age of the people here, but how many of you here have never seen a classic Tom & Jerry or Looney Tunes? Do we have a generation that has never been exposed to these? If would make a lot of sense if people don't get "toon logic" puzzles if the oldest cartoon they've seen is Happy Tree Friends. Is it something only some of the 80's and 90's kids would get? (Man, now I want a Mr. Bean adventure game.) Anyway, I'm off to glue a cat to my face, I need to rent a moped.
  3. You know, when they talked about playing adventures with kids in the last podcasts I remembered this thread, I guess our "logic" is different from a kid's one or maybe their logic is more malleable?
  4. Why can't I enjoy System Shock 2?

Well, I just bought the game and got the SHTUP and SS2 Rebirth mods, that should do, right?
  5. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Didn't the European version version had things "cut out"? As in for some reason they released in in Europe first and then added a few things and released in the US? I had to quit a "greenlight" contender called Gear Jack, it's an obvious iOS port, only the idea doesn't work well on PC. It's an eternal runner, except it does actually end and it has a leveling system, which kinda ruin the game. Not to mention that having to do Super Meat Boy stunt while clicking on levers and buttons on screen doesn't work on PC. The reason the leveling ruins the game is that you can "level" the running, which not only speeds up the game and makes it harder, but at the same time it extends the arch of the jump. Which means in many situations you will always die because you jump too long if your level is too high or if you "de-level" there are jump you just can't make. I just got fed up of having to restart a level and respect because of this reason. It's a not a timing issue, you can actually slow down time, it's bloody arch that changes with the level.
  6. Why can't I enjoy System Shock 2?

I anticipate I will try to get all the mods that I can find, I'll probably but it next week.
  7. Fresh Indie Game Compendium Extraordinaire

Why would you ever cyberdoubt me? Mad Father By: Sen Available: http://vgboy.dabomstew.com/other/madfather.htm (Translated version) Synopsis: Have you ever played Corpse Party? It's like that... If you haven't. It's a horror game made with a JRPG engine, yet it plays more like an adventure game. It's like Clock Tower in the sense that depending on how you play you will get a better or worse ending... and by better I mean messed up in a better way? It's pretty messed up...
  8. Fresh Indie Game Compendium Extraordinaire

Nitronic Rush By: DigiPen Students Available: http://nitronic-rush.com/ Synopsis: It's a "survival" racing game. You race your cyber car down a cyber track avoiding cyber obstacles from an evil cybernetic computer that wants you dead.. It's pretty cyber?!
  9. The Swedish Apocalypse (Krater)

I'm still trying to play a mission or two every day, I don't know if I really like it or not... I haven't quit, yet I'm not playing it as much as any other game... I just noticed that you have to pay to raise the level cap too, it doesn't seem to bother me yet for some reason.
  10. Brütal Legend on PC!

They claim it's the main reason we can't have Earthbound.
  11. Brütal Legend on PC!

It has a soundtrack edition... Will it actually come with all the Heavy Metal songs in the game? I guess they have already payed for the royalties or whatever legal jargon you use in these situations.
  12. General Video Game Deals Thread

Tedious and bland... I'm re-watching a video review and I'm really put off by the game now. (Unless it gets even cheaper later.)
  13. General Video Game Deals Thread

Fable III is on sale at Steam, I had almost forgotten about that game. I only remember people being disappointed by it, but they always promise the Moon with these games. Hmm, would anybody recommend it at 9.99€?
  14. Pokémon X and Y

Damn, Nintendo seems to be going all out in this game (I think that's the right expression), first they release the Pokédex on iOS and now Pokémon TV on iOS AND Android, It's so bizarre to have an official Nintendo app on a Droid. These are not actually games, but they will help by keeping Pokémon in the minds of kids and more "casual" fans. I don't know why, but my cautious optimism is slowly becoming actual optimism. :|
  15. Why can't I enjoy System Shock 2?

I'm pretty sure I will buy the game, get frustrated, then try to cheat, which will either make me hate the game or love the game. Since GOG is not Steam, I'm not sure whether to bother to wait for a sale.
  16. Recently completed video games

It's strange how I seem to be the only person who understands the logic of Deponia.... I beat my first Android game (not counting playing ScummVM games on it), Beastie Bay, it's Kairosoft's (Game Dev Story) Pokémon styled game where you also run an island resort. It's interesting how you have to go to other island and fight (and capture) monsters so the people their will visit your island as tourists. The monsters you capture harvest material on your island and if you meet certain conditions their house becomes a zoo tourists can visit. It's all about "civ" and nature stats which can upgrade nature or building areas. I bothered me how quickly you run out of stuff to research for, and how resources that seem scarce all of the sudden you have way too many to use, even lumber (used for nearly everything) was too plentiful! As for the combat? It's 3 vs 3, just so they wouldn't be too Pokémon-like, but you can only use one item per round which complicates things a lot. Still, once I got a rare and powerful monster it was relatively easy. It does have a "pay to play" thing, but it's so unnecessary, you can pay real money for medals, but the game gives you medals for even few minutes you play, so you don't have to. it's a "free with ads", but the ads are so tiny I forget they are there.
  17. Aliens: Colonial Marines

I will probably still buy the game when it goes on sale on Steam.... ಠ_ಠ
  18. General Video Game Deals Thread

This is relatively game related... You get the digital version of Sam & Max: Surfin' The Highway 60% at Comixology!
  19. The Swedish Apocalypse (Krater)

I got this one in an indie bundle and I've been playing in on and off, it's the only game I've playing "on and off". I came here wanting to see what others thought of it and to confirm my suspicions. True, nobody has posted here in over six months, but the complaints are the same that were worrying me... It is repetitive, I spent most of the game killing wolfs, bears and rats and when I encountered the first human enemy they took me down pretty quick. And yet... unlike other repetitive games I am questioning whether to quit or not. It's quite beautiful and colorful for an apocalypse game... I just looked up a Let's Play of it and the spot where the player is seems the same as every one I've encountered yet. A part of me is just saying I should quit before the disappointment arrives, but another part thinks I shouldn't quit and that maybe I won't get bored of it.
  20. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I don't know if that help (if so, thanks), but since I had the old save files, I copied them, created a new game and overwrote the old with the new save file and I'm right where I left off! HUZZAH! (I don't dare to turn off the game though).
  21. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

This might be a real "quit", but the new Devil May Cry keeps deleting my save files.... I was more than halfway through the game the second time. If this doesn't get fixed I will "officially" quit. I certainly won't play anymore since I can see the save files, but they are being ignored by the game.
  22. What the... Is this abusing glitches or something? I'm pretty sure have the items you need appear out of nowhere!
  23. Dreamfall Chapters: The Undreaming, also dragons

I'm in the same position with this Kickstarter as the Broken Sword one. It's been a while since the last game and I have no idea how good the game will be and I really think I should replay them just to make sure they stood the test of time... I haven't played either game since they first came out... I can't even tell whether the few memories I do have are from this or Syberia... or if I ever really liked them. Oh well, I guess a month is enough time to play at least one of the games? At least this Kickstarter didn't come out at the same time as every other adventure game... Unless this is just the start and tomorrow we'll have a Syberia Kickstater. And... Frankly, I can't think of any adventure series that hasn't been Kickstarted already.
  24. I don't know if it's a coincidence that this game came out so close to Proteus, but I've liked every Tale of Tales game before and I even liked Dinner Date, so what could go wrong? Well, atmosphere-wise it is good, the game is about a couple of lovers galaxies apart who can only connect through cyber space and the cyber beach does give you the right feeling since the "engine" makes the beach look more "cyber" as you walk down it until you reach a "cyber barrier", the music goes well with the atmosphere as it get more eerie and uninviting as you try to leave the beach, but that when I have to talk about the interaction or "gameplay". The game is basically a cyber date, which is something I'm fine with having played Dinner Date and Digital Love story, the problem is... You only talk by interacting with a chessboard in a cafe at the beach, you have to use your "cyber view" on items to get new chess pieces which are supposed to give you new things, but the real problem is that the conversation seems to be one sided and you have no idea what's going on. The other side can't seem to decide whether she loves or hates you and doesn't seem to give a damn about the gun I eventually found in the game. It's possible that I screwed up, but it seems that depending on where you place the chess piece you say something different, but after two or three moves, I can no longer say nothing and only the other side speaks, but even for the few rounds it does, the conversation is equally illogical. :| ME: "What should we do?" Other: "I want to scream. I am screaming." Maybe my character just doesn't want to speak with the other character anymore... PS: I really just hope it's bugging and it can/will be fixed, even if the conversations don't make sense they'll be better with two people talking.
  25. OK, I had a conversation on Twitter with the Tale of Tales guy and it seems that I missed a key part of the game, "the poetry is in the waves". You literally have to walk NEXT to the sea to unlock things to say!
