Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Tanukitsune replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Papers Please seems like a good example, I haven't bought it yet, but I will eventually and I will have to force myself to play it like most games with harsh gameplay but interesting mechanics or stories. -
I'd hate to resurrect such an old thread but I've recently started to play this game and wow, it does not disappoint! It's already been mentioned in this thread why Nintendo of America will never release this game and the more I play the more obvious it becomes. In a way this game is making me a bit angry, seeing how cut and paste Nintendo games are becoming lately, if not AAA gaming in general and yet this gem is left aside. It's also distressing than this JRPG is better paced than most modern AAA games. It has such great minor touches that nobody would bother to do today, like when I fought a bat monster, the theme sounded like the 60's Batman show for a second or two, even the funkadelic background shapes seem to have some theme with the enemy you're fighting sometimes. Is it me or does each enemy seem to have their own theme and background? It's brilliant! :3

I don't know who told you the Yakuza series is a GTA-like game, it's more of a spiritual sequel to Shenmue. Yes, it has an open world, but it's nothing like a GTA game, it's closer to River City Ransom than anything else. -

I find unhealthy in the sense that if don't know why you don't like in a game, you won't know what to avoid and potentially spend a lot of money in games you won't enjoy. Of course, if the game doesn't draw you in, that's enough, but if you know why it's not drawing you in, it's even better. PS: You only find on average two games brilliant a year? That's a bit harsh... :| -
The video is pretty bad, but it's still being made, I wish the had chosen someone talking about the game than showing it, specially when it's not really showing the "neat stuff", she doesn't just whip her hair, she has several transformations and other powers which I assume they haven't even started with yet. Can you even tell it's a metroidvania game from the video? It looks like a generic platform game... I really hope they change that video, since it seems to be hurting them more than helping them.

Wait, she does Cucumber Quest, right? She works for them regularly or was she hired just for that? I gotta admit, it looks like they feels more comfortable making 2D games, but it looks they have to adapt to survive I guess. Frankly, the only game of their I hated was Bloodrayne and only because they committed the "sin" of having bullet hell bosses with a character that lacks bullet hell mechanics. I feel I care about them too much to make a good case, I've been with them practically since day one and I'm "fanboying"...

WHAAAT!? "Thoroughly unremarkable"? They've excelled with their pixel artwork and music since their birth! The fact they make licensed games that are at worst so-so is ridiculously remarkable.

Since in this version I no longer have to shake trees for fruit, I only about need half an hour to check the fossils, find the money rock and check the store and talk to everybody one. You know you could just go to the GameFaq's AC forums and ask to buy the furniture you want? I lucky enough to get them from free from a kind user.

The game is still being made, it's hard to tell how she'll look in the finished game. In the previous game for DSi, she looks tanned on the menu, but white in game?

Kapn' is all the fast travel you need! I have all the pieces for the golden house, but it was cloudy today, so here it is from the day before minus the last piece I got today: Also.... Philys, you know my coffee was damn perfect! ADMIT IT! Today was my third Gracie visit and I passed the test, huzzah! Only one more to go!

Yeah, the reason I created this thread is to understand and accept why people quit a game, I think it's incredibly unhealthy to quit a game unless you actually understand why you are doing it. I myself will continue to play a game I don't like until I can pinpoint the reason I don't like it because, if you can't express or understand why you don't like a game, you're likely to make the same mistake again. -
It's pooping golf? I thought it was throwing rocks.... Oops.

I changed a sheep's catchphrase to "BAAAAAboo".

I finally started to play Mother 3 and I can already see quite a few reasons Nintendo didn't release it here, but it's spoiler-y so:

You were abusing the save state system and you still find LttP too difficult and frustrating? MORE than Demon's Souls? Yeah, you really gotta explain yourself if you bring up the Demon's Souls card. Were you using a guide? With bottled fairies and the other tools in the games, I just don't see how this game can even come close to Demon's Souls. -
Seriously? So you get things better than the worthless monkey? I guess I'll have to experiment more.

Not if you use the tunnels, but I really hate those Tiki statues. It's also eerie to go to a Jungle level and see that everybody has already been killed by the Tiki statues. PS: As much as I love learning as I go, should I ever bother to sacrifice to Kali? I sometimes get a monkey that never follows me and sacrificing enemies doesn't seem to do much. Also, are hired men useless?

I recently got the Vita version and I only played a bit of the original version. When I first reached the jungle I thought "You're kidding, right? You don't really expect me to survive this!", and then I reached the ice caves, to which I made the same comment, but when I finally reached the temple (Which I only really managed once) it is really ridiculous in a hilarious way. On one side, some mummy spat scarabs at me so I ran the other way, to be kill by some other evil wizard monster thing.... You gotta love how even if you die 1000 times, you learn something new every time, although it's usually "What's that? And.... it killed me."

5 hours.... Yikes! I could read a whole novel, or beat a "sensible" game, or so many other things... I think I played Mafia 2 to it's completion, it's setting and character where great! I love 50's America! -

I haven't done it yet, but I'm this close to quitting Asssassin's Creed 3, I just got if for free with PSN + and... It's just showing why I'm starting to loath modern AAA games, I don't know how long I've played, but it's the "5-10 hour tutorial" part and it's just remembering all the padding these games have... The eavesdropping missions, the stupid collectibles (which you know CHASE) and I'm thinking... why do I play this series? What's the part I actually enjoy? The free running and exploration? Not with guards on every roof top.... The stealth aspect? You're kidding right? You can't really play this game stealthily unless the plot demands it. It seems so strange I having trouble enjoying this version when I enjoyed the Vita one so much, but that one was trying to be a bit different. I don't think I'm reached that far in the game, the moment I reach Boston, I meet Benjamin Franklin and he's yelling "I'M THE COLLECTIBLE GUY!", or at least that's what I hear, I've done a few missions and saved some guy from a warehouse... I'm pretty sure I'm so early in the game, I'm not even playing as the real main protagonist yet, but... The game feels so padded, I don't know if should just stop now and or just wait until I reach another annoying and unnecessary mission, only added to make the game longer... -
I have to point out how weird the whole concept of reproduction carts feels to me, I can understand some people want a physical copy and want to play it on the original system, but it's still a pirated/bootleg version. Then again, it's also kinda like having a reproduction of a unique piece of art, you can't have a real Monet, so why not a fake one? *shrugs*

I've contemplated the majesty of Cthulhu, the Great one... my Great One, from page one to the end.. I want his tentacleness to embrace me! But seriously, for a "joke" book, it's "done well" in the sense that if you weren't into the joke, you wouldn't know it wasn't one, I mean, it's laughable and ridiculous, but you couldn't tell that it was made this way on purpose, it doesn't go too far and keeps it's "disguise" even at the end, even the reviewers aren't letting you into the joke yet. I can't help to notice that one of the "Team Nostalgia Chicks" is a fan of the Phantom of the Opera, making the Phantom of the Opera analogies in it, more hilariously fan-ficy. Also, Uncle Neil (Nyarlathotep?) is awesome!

Damn, I forgot Joan left at noon and missed my chance to buy turnips... Would anybody care to open their gates so I can buy some? It's not a big deal since I can do it again next Sunday. I also hit the final reward for the HRA exterior theme, but I still don't have it on my house since I can only upgrade once a day.
