Yes, I was also going to buy Rise of the Triad and some other cheap games, but I don't really mind... Like elmuerte said the Xmas sale is around the corner!

Apart from a few digital comics, I got: -DuckTales Remastered -Chainsaw Warrior -Super Wagon Adventure -Monaco -Gunpoint

Damn, I wish I had gotten a recommendation for Love and Rocket sooner, it was just on sale last week. Speaking of sales, I took advantage of the Black Monday deal they had at Comixology and.... finally found a comic I couldn't finish. It's called Fathom an underwater sci-fi fantasy thingie and it bored the hell out of me. It was about a girl raised by humans that's really from some underwater race, which she returns to and that's about when I got bored. Many characters talk like this or some other color combination that is hard to read, I couldn't really tell many character apart, I don't even know if there is more than one female main protagonist or if there are different males of whatever they called her species. Nothing really grabbed my attention... It felt like a mediocre Syfy movie. I guess I should stick to very VERY good comics, or very VERY cheesy and "stupid" comics.

Hmm, yes! I do think that would be a nice addition, I like Sherlock Holmes, but I can't really stomach the few stories I've read of Poirot... EDIT: Oooh! How about a Roald Dahl collection and some OZ?

So, I'm looking for books to add to my Xmas list... Does anybody know of whimsical nonsense Victorian book authors like Lewis Carroll or Edward Lear? I already have too many books on video game history and I don't want anything that's part of a series, those I'd rather have as ebooks. Any complete works/omnibuses that are essential? I already have Lovecraft, Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, Poe, every Douglas Adams book... Goodreads recommendations aren't looking that good to me. :|

Have you read Strangers In Paradise or Bone? Those would be on my recommendation list.

The .exe crashes for me.

I'm tempted to get the new Amnesia game, but seeing that almost nobody in my friend's list has it is discouraging. I'm also debating whether to get Shadowrun Returns, I'm not a fan a strategy, but at a "squad" level I do seem to enjoy them more. The thing is, I heard it's better to wait for the DLC expansion since it's adding features like saving wherever you want instead of just autosaves. :|

I guess Chiptune music podcasts count as niche, right? Dementia music podcasts seem pretty niche too. The Decoder Ring Theater is trying to emulate radio plays of the old days, except they aren't boring and that's VERY niche. Does it count when a writer podcasts their own stories? I guess it does if they have a niche audience. The problem of "niche-ness" is that when you're in the niche audience it's hard to tell it's niche: "What? Are you trying to tell me that I'm the only guy who to podcasts about C64 music? That can't be right!". :|

My monitor (Samsung Syncmaster) was never the best, it has a dead pixel and every once in a blue moon it would give me an error saying the resolution isn't right and forcing me to restart several times until it worked. Not only has it started to get worse over the years, sometimes when my PC comes out of sleep mode the monitor just blinks and forces me to restart, which usually starts in the "Um, this is the wrong resolution, restart several times, OK?" thing all over again. Since I can't see what's going on, sometimes I restart at a bad time, and I have to waste 30 minutes to an hour for a system restore. No big deal, Christmas is around the corner, I'll just ask for a new one, right? The thing is, I don't really know what they call this monitor type, apparently "hybrid monitors" don't show any results in online stores and I'm weary to buy one of the same brand, specially since from the description they don't seem to do what I want. Do monitors or TVs even come with components input anymore? All I need is a VGA input for my PC, and HMDI one for the PS3 and a component one for all the older consoles. Is there such a thing anymore? Should I look for an external component that would turn a normal TV monitor into a PC one or viceversa? Come to think of it, my graphic card has an HMDI output, but I could never get it to work with this monitor, I just see the desktop wallpaper, not even the mouse. The monitor is too old to have new drivers or active tech support, so I could never solve these problems.

I need help to find a "hybrid" PC monitor?
Tanukitsune replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Idle Banter
I've been experimenting for a while, I'm not sure, but it seem that simply setting my monitor to any other source than the VGA before it hibernates will prevent the blinking issue. It takes a while for it to hibernate, but out of five hibernations, it hasn't done the blinking one once. If I can make sure I can avoid this issue I'll wait until I can afford a decent one. -
Over at Backloggery I can see some of my friends that got it on sale having the "Um, where are the ghosts?" reactions, I didn't want to tell them the real story because that's how I played it and that's why I enjoyed it... At first I thought it might be a horror story, but soon a thought it was just a mystery, as I was getting closer to the truth, all I cared was knowing what the truth was and it was worth it for me. :|

Charlie Brooker teaches Jon Snow to play video games
Tanukitsune replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Wait, wait, does this work for real and it's free? This is a godsend for me! It was an interesting view, but why did they choose LEGO Marvel Heroes? He mentions Papers, Please, which would have helped his cause a bit more, but I guess it doesn't get to the corruption part fast enough for a show? I loved how Jon saw a megaphone and yelled "GUN!"! -
Well, I beat Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon: Another Story a JRPG in which a villain is trying to rewrite history and change the past and this somehow gives them an excuse to bring back every villain they had met up until this point. Frankly, there were moments I though it felt it was made with RPG Maker and well... uninspired? They have an excuse to send the "Inner Senshi" around the world to retrieve some crystals and well... Here's an example, Mercury visits Switzerland which is just a bunch of ice caverns where she happens to find a hidden village that looks as generic and uninspired and as a good excuse to not even to have to look up anything about Switzerland. It's nearly the same for all the other Senshi, a hidden village that looks generic as hell. At least the maps are small? At least the story is interesting enough, except I'm not even sure this story is canon because character-wise, they don't do anything new... the Outer Senshi don't really do anything plotwise and the Inner Senshi just follow their own tropes. Still it was nice to see them again, I'd only recommend this game to big Sailor Moon fans who don't mind a mediocre RPG with a decent story. Hopefully we'll get new games when they release the new anime next year.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Tanukitsune replied to posh_somme's topic in Video Gaming
So you'd already have the blue tunic on and all your equipment? That kinda defeats the point of the hard mode if having this tunic already drastically raises your defense, it sounds like it would be the same as playing the game with the normal tunic to me. Either way, I don't play it for the combat, I play it more for the puzzles and exploration. -
I think they messed up a few things this time, I think Saints Row 4 had a smaller discount before, but now it's bigger and the same price? SR 4 wasn't 80€ before, right? Steam is totally glitching out! XD

I need help to find a "hybrid" PC monitor?
Tanukitsune replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Idle Banter
It was always just one screen, it just somehow thought the HDMI one was a second one, it recognizes it as the primary one now, but I can't see a thing in this resolution. EDIT: This is so weird, no matter which resolution I choose or how much I mess with the gamma or brightness, it's all a blurry mess. EDIT EDIT: I switched back to the normal VGA cable and I just noticed something. While using this cable everything looks fine but the maximum resolution allowed is 1650*1080, but with the HMDI cable everything looks like a blurry mess BUT the maximum resolution allowed is 1920*1080 and changing it to smaller resolution just shrinks the screen and leaves a black border, so I think I can't really change the resolution. -

Tanukitsune replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Idle Banter
OK, I managed to get it recognize it via the HDMI cable, but now it thinks it's a TV monitor and the resolutions is 1920+1080 and everything is so blurry I can barely read what I'm writing... :| It also won't let me choose barely any resolutions at all, but it's still very hard to read what's on screen with all of them. -
I need help to find a "hybrid" PC monitor?
Tanukitsune replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Idle Banter
Hmm, I guess it's set to use the VGA input as the default. "Dual monitors" is something I know nothing about, but if it keeps thinking this, is there a way I can tell them to switch and use the "second monitor" as the primary? This might solve all my problems... I'm going to test if I can get the error again and switch to HDMI and see if that helps. The only problem with this solution is that my monitor only has one HDMI input and I'd have to switch cables everytimes I wanted to use my PS3, but that sounds better than buying a new monitor. -

Tanukitsune replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Idle Banter
Apparently, I am dumb and didn't know the VGA input is now called D-sub... This is the cheapest I could find with the features I want, but it is the same brand, I still don't even know what to ask for if I want this from another brand. -
I was lucky, since I had just had enough for the higher version of the spell I had, which killed them pretty quickly! Does the game have a spell that can harm more than one enemy? It would be nice for those crowds of weak zombies. Thanks to them many times I just had to turn back because I ran out of spells! Now that I have a second one, I can last much longer. The areas seems to be more connected than in Demon's Souls, so I'm not sure if I'm done with the Undead area or not. I'm pretty sure I should try to get a pyromancer spell, I have a feeling these skeletons are weaker to them since my normal spell does almost nothing to them and they give almost no XP?

Now I only have to decide where to go next... Edit: Nevermind, I beat some gargoyles and rung a bell! HUZZAH?
-
I finally found him! I don't remember if I asked this, but... does this game have only shortcuts or can't you travel between bonfires eventually?
-
Argh... I'm feeling so lost! I had to look up a guide to find a merchant that sells the key to the one who sells magic... But I just can't find him. It seems I haven't reached that shortcut yet? But they says I should have if I've beaten the minotaur boss? At least I found an elevator to the beginning... and I rescued someone who I don't think is going to reward me at all.... :|

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Tanukitsune replied to posh_somme's topic in Video Gaming
I'm pretty sure most of them have heart pieces. It's terribly frustrating to breeze through the game and not being able to "complete" the game because of a stupid mini-game. Then again, I don't really need that extra heart container, I was only missing one full heart container, which is probably my record in Zelda games. EDIT: OH GOD! I hated the baseball minigame, I did so terribly and didn't even know what I was doing!
