I rented Uncharted Waters too back in the day and got this when I saw it on the WiiU VC as for it's popularity? I'm not sure, I don't think strategy games were popular on the SNES, but they did release the sequel out of Japan and it made to Virtual Console? Then again, it doesn't mean it was popular.

I just beat Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons, it's a weird SNES about that's a strategy RPG in the 16th century where you choose a character which a specific mission, which is intertwined with the other character's in some ways and which is likely to take you all over the world. It's kinda like playing Sid Meier's Pirates! where piracy is optional, you can establish trade routes, become a pirate or make discoveries to make your fame and fortune. It was fun to make relatively accurate discoveries... The game got the pangolin mixed with the armadillo and put it in Africa. And making the big voyage from Europe to America is just as intense as you expected in that era. I tried to do the obvious route from West Africa to Brazil, but somehow ended up in Santo Domingo... nearly starved to death. The catastrophes were annoying, I bought lime juice for scurvy and rat poison in case they infested the boat... I never used them, but I was forced to go back to Europe because I had to buy some "perfume" that wards it away. It was a relatively educational game in the sense that I had to do some research to plan my navigation route and satisfying to make so many discoveries. The story got a little silly in the end, but it was good... for it's time?
  3. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I think I might quit the original Harvest Moon. If you've played a Harvest Moon game, you've probably reached the point of "I've already 'won' in year one, all I have to do is the daily grind until the end of the game", but in the original game, it's quite excruciating. Your wife gets mad at you if don't go to bed by 5 PM, getting the cows to the pasture is way too time consuming and it's very hard to track which ones have been attended to or not. The people have almost no personalities at all and the tools only get upgraded once. The worst thing about this game is that in this one, AUTUMN is just as bad as Winter, you can't plant crops, giving you an extra season of pure boredom. I can see why they added mining in the later games... and so many other things. I don't think I'm even calling this quitting, I'm loaded, I got everything in the first year, so instead of wasting a week grinding in the game I've already won. I'm just gonna watch the ending... EDIT: I just watched the ending.... I'm glad I didn't waste the whole week for it...
  4. anime

I'm pretty sure it's the swimming anime, people are really into it now. Did anybody catch the simulcast of Sailor Moon Crystal? It was basically the same, but with some nice foreshadowing... and Usagi was almost expresionless. :|
  5. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I might actually try that game since it's free... But since this is Quitter's Club, I must regret to say I must quit the Sniper Elite Zombie games... It's no longer a sniper game, sure you can take out some with a sniper rifle, but after spending most of the level shooting them with the other weapons, I just didn't care anymore. There seems to be a sniper element since if you don't headshot them they are likely to come back to life, but they just crawl out the ground behind you and... yep, it's no longer a sniper game. Is the sequel any better? I bought the bundle, unfortunately.
  6. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Do decent and REAL hunting simulators actually exist now? Any game with animal hunting was better than the Cabela game I played.
  7. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

The game wasn't even sick in that way, no skinning animals or even blood, you get XP and the body disappears after a short while. I really don't get it... It's not a good hunting game, it's a not a good FPS, why does it have so many sequels? If you want a good photography game, the closest thing Beyond Good and Evil, where you get paid for photographing the alien wild life.

Yeah, I guess the ease of backtracking and having so little of it doesn't make it a real Metroidvania, but it did scratch the "itch" if you catch my drift. I also beat the first season of The Last Door, a horror adventure game that... was kinda dumb? It's tries to hard to be scary and mysterious, but it's Lovecraftian-esque lore wasn't interesting enough for me to care about getting season two, it feels like one of those generic RPGs that replaces "elves" with "we're definitely not elves despite looking and acting the same", except in this case it's a bad Lovecraft fan-fic with the names changed. The Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville.... Who thought of making a Metroidvania with FLYING characters? It makes the exploring too easy, the characters only have different in one power, which is what you use for "Metroidvania-ing", and once you clear the first area... You never need to use Blossom again, there aren't really any secret areas either and every enemy is just some orb robot, even the bosses. I'm glad I got it cheap, because it's pretty meh. Haunt the House: Terrortown: You play as a little ghost that possesses items to scare people, as the atmosphere grows more tense, you gain more powers and can do more things with the items. There are only four houses to haunt, but the numbers of items and things the items can do is pretty amazing. Also, the ghost is adorable! The Yawhg: There isn't much to tell about this short game, except I managed to get bitten by a werewolf AND a vampire in my game... Nice?! Year Walk: This game was shorter... and creepier than I expected. It was nice to learn about new mythical creatures and the style was nice, it could have used more puzzles though, it feels like there was only a handful of them.
  9. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I quit Cabela's African Adventures, I got on a whim because I wanted to try a hunting game and... it's not really a hunting game, it's an FPS with animal enemies. The enemies are way too bullet sponge-y for it to be a simulation and you spend most of the "hunts" dodge rolling and trying to get a good shot. The stealth missions are equally dumb since they have no checkpoints and much reach the target without the rest of the herd noticing you, there is only one path and one way to do it. Oh, it also won't stop crashing, which isn't helping much.

    Happy Birthday, Subbes and Toblix!
  11. General Video Game Deals Thread

Yeah, I'm done with buying stuff and I need a lot of cards to trade, since the voting for flash sales for over I assume when this one is over we'll go directly to the encore? Anyway, I have a ton of #10 among other and I need #6 and #8 and I'm going to try to craft as many as I can before the day is over, I don't really care if my team wins...

I beat SteamWorld Dig and yeah, it's pretty good, it's more like a metroidvania with digging than anything else. Although you really shouldn't bother to explore the older areas that much since the ore become more expensive the deeper you get, so why go look for that copper ore that's 2$ when you get a ruby that's 300$? The game does have some special core for bigger upgrades or teleporters to make the trip back easier. Although I did have spare cores in the end, it did feel a bit tense to decide whether I could afford one or not at most times. How To Survive... I'm not sure why I bought a twin stick shooter with zombies, it's like a cheaper more condensed version of something like Dead Island, which is probably why I enjoyed it in the end... No "AAA Slog". The game does have a quirky sense of humor with the survival guide videos and the game does have a high risk/reward system with the shelters, not only are they only place you can sleep, they always have some very good crafting items in them. The problem is that for some reason they make a sound that attracts zombies for a minute or two. Luckily it's pretty easy if you just run away far enough so that enemies only come from one side, The game also has a special night stalker zombie which is annoying since it never drops anything and as the game progresses the wildlife will become infected and well... zombie deer are kind nerfed until you get the best weapon in the game. The biggest disappointment was that the finale was just another zombie horde, this time with bosses and zombie deer even. But in the end, despite all odds, I did enjoy it... the quest giving monkeys might have helped with that decision.
  13. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

Please tell me that Shovel Knight is more like a cross between Duck Tales and Mega Man and nothing like 1001 Spikes, that game was more masocore than hardcore, as in "we are pure evil and will set traps where we know you will have to stand for more than a nanosecond.". It looks tough but fair from what I've seen, but so did 1001 Spikes. :|
  14. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I think I'm about to quit 1001 Spikes, I knew it would be brutal, but... it's verging on "I Want To Be The Guy" brutal and despite what people will say it can be unfair and sometimes death is not your fault. Like in the the level I left (on which I just realized I spent over an hour without beating it), now every level has spikes in vital positions so you can't really stay in place for a nano second, but the worst? There is a section where you must ride a platform over lava and jump on a platform with crushers, back onto the platform, get the key and avoid the crushers again on the way back. This is the point I realize the crushers won't rise in time for me to make it or worse, they'll crush me. It's one of the games where I think I can do, but do I really want to? It's kinda against my own rules to keep playing if I die too many times and get stuck in the same place... Specially for this long. :|
  15. General Video Game Deals Thread

Yeah, I know what you mean about DLC not being discounted, in some casse the game is almost, if not cheaper, than the DLC itself, which makes it really frustrating. Has anybody ever used Simplycdkeys? I don't trust buying Steam codes from unknown sites.
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

Seriously, if you're going to buy a red token, just use that money to buy the game you'll never win anyway.
  17. General Video Game Deals Thread

Man, the red team won again? I guess the whole Reddit thing is over, huh? I was going to craft my summer badge when it was my team's turn again, but I'm sure I will get a turn again. Anyway, Steamworld Dig is closer to a platform game with mining that another Terraria/Minecraft clone, right? I remember someone talking about here in the forums recently.
  18. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

I wouldn't know about that, my nephew didn't want to play any of the older Mario game unless he could play with me and taking turns in Mario 3 didn't cut it.
  19. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

My nephew is staying for a few days and I found out Super Mario 3D World has the bubble feature and surprising, we played up to final Flower World with the boss rush. Yeah, a lot of golden leafs were used, but with a 4 year old, it's not really optional anymore. We also beat 8-Bit Commando, that Contra clone... I'll confess that he was more of a meat shield that anything else, but we beat it! Woodle Tree Adventures is nice cute game to play with him, a bit short, but it's super cheap, so I can't complain. I think Double Dragon Neon is too complex for him, he doesn't understand how to use his special moves yet and I keep having to resurrect him... It's strange to see him pick up on things like possible secret areas, but he practically just jumps off the first cliff he sees by accident. :|
  20. Frog Fractions 2: A Fractional Kickstarter Campaign

I wonder if there is some poor soul playing these kind of games to death in hopes of finding Frog Fractions 2, then again, wasn't that how they discovered the first game?

I beat "Noir Syndrome", a procedurally generated crime mystery adventure... It's kinda like Carmen Sandiego. You have a time limit, you need clues to point to a suspect AND the suspect's name. Not to mention you can die of hunger or be gunned down by the mob or police if you do the wrong thing, like steal from them. All you do is hit the "inspect button" EVERYWHERE and on everyone to hopefully get suspects, clues or items, like lockpicks or money. For 75$ the mob will tell you one initial of the suspect, if you have enough, you can get both. I'm not sure it's that good since many clues are redundant and you'll have five clue that say the suspect is either a cop or a mobster, but you don't even know their gender yet.... which is only obtained by.... fingerprints... Wow. All clues will tell whether they are a civilian, mobster or cop, their job and their gender, which is usually enough, unless you have two with the same job and gender... You can also level up, but... it's kinda not worth it. You have to complete challenges like complete a case in record time, find a certain person, etc, etc.... But the rewards for leveling up are ridiculous. I think I only have two more levels to unlock and all I get as a starting bonus is 5 dollars ( I usually find 15 in my home immediately), 3 bullets and TWO lock picks. Do I really want to play 50 times, spend 10.000 dollars and other grueling tasks just to start with a few bucks more? Anyway, I guess it's OK at the price I got it, but that's about it. The suspects are randomized and the clue locations too, but the places are the same so it does get old fast.
  22. PlayStation+

Wait, the PS4 version of Strider? Damn, that would mean I would technically own it and not be able to play it. :| Oh well, at least I get to play Dead Space 3 for free, it's one of those game I would only play if I did get through PSN+.
  23. General Video Game Deals Thread

So, does Space Hulk play like Shadowrun, Grotesque Tactics and other squad based games? And what's the word on Splinter Cell: Blacklist?
  24. General Video Game Deals Thread

What? How did they get 600.000 point in less than ten minutes? Is this fixed or what? XD

Purple is ahead once AGAIN and has a three times more points than anybody else, one million points? This is ridiculous! XD
