I've been playing the games I've gotten from the Steam sales... XP Archon: It's like chess, only with dragons, unicorns and wizards, so it's awesome! And it has a story mode! The combat is action based, but the AI of the opponent isn't that clever so it's not that hard... Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time: Your typical physics based puzzle with time rewinding. In this case it's vehicle based, which was already done (better) in Bob Came in Pieces and since it's a port of a Wii game it controls... not that good? It's also kinda buggy... Sometimes when I remind time my character is still dead and my machine is still broken...

I like theHut.com, they charge only 1.3€ for shipping.. they have Epic Mickey pretty cheap right now, but.... Steam and GoG have engorged my backlog WAYYYY too much... I think I'll have time for it in about 20 years?

Frankly, I only listen to them because it's the only podcast that isn't taking a holiday... I find them just OK, but these discussions are boring the hell out of me... I must have zoned out because I don't even remember the spoilers for Minerva's Den... :| I don't even remember what they talked about today, but I do like the British guy they talked to... He was the only entertaining part of today's cast!

I owned the original games... and sold them to buy the SNES compilation... I was young and stupid back then.... -

I actually bought the Wii Super Mario All Stars just for the soundtrack... which is kinda disappointing.... it only has ONE theme from each game and some sound effects! How lame is that? The soundtrack for Sonic's 10th Anniversary had every Sonic song they could fit into one CD! -
Achievements, when done right, can make the game better or at least a bit more fun! The only reason I found Condemned so tense and scary was because I refused to use fire arms... for an achievment! If that achievement hadn't existed I would have used firearms and ruined the game? Besides the achievements in DeathSpank or at least ToV, point out funny things you miss out on unless you use a walkthrough!

So you're saying an old game has old game tropes in it? The only other stealth based heist game is Thief, I never played Sly, but it looks like it's trying to be the Ratchet & Clank/Jak & Daxter of thieves? The most annoying companion characters? More than Na'vi? More than the 10.000 Sonic companions? (I actually don't mind them, but apparently everybody else wants them to die in a fire...) So... where you expecting something less... "Blue sky in games" or something? -

Really? You're the first person to say anything bad against the Sly series I know of! -
I got this in one of the many indie bundles over at Steam and the best way to describe this game is... Mr. Drilller with traps? The goal of Diamond Dan is to reach the bottom of a temple find a map to the next temple and exit through a door on that same level. You only walk on the outside of the temple and that part reminds me a bit of Castellian, except this temple is always square. The blocks are nearly constantly shifting and in a random pattern too, so if die and you expect that block to crush you, it will probably be another one, but the moving blocks that can crush you are just the beginning of the traps! There are pit traps that open if you spend too much time on them, crumbling block that fall if you wall over or UNDER them, spike traps, wall traps, flame traps, spear traps.... But Dan isn't defenseless against these traps he can push in any direction, but he has a stamina bar that decreases with each push, so you have to be careful unless you want to end up tired right at the moment a block decides to crush you... You can also play as Ann, who has a pickaxe, the pickaxe also has a stamina bar and can only hit left and right, but it DESTROY BLOCKS, even trap ones if you're quick enough! The game is VERY QUICK paced, if you stop for a moment you'll probably be crushed or hit by a trap, but sometimes you'll find out that there is no clear path down and you'll have to wait for the blocks to move and hope they form a path instead of crushing you... What did I forget... Oh, yeah! The DIAMONDS! One of the walls tiles looks like a face and will drop gems, gold or keys, the gems and gold exist only for points and you'll find bigger and better gems in harder levels. The keys open doorways which act as checkpoints and treasure chests, so it's up to you whether you'd rather have money or a checkpoint, although sometimes you'll have more than enough keys for everything! I don't know why the game is called Diamond Dan if you only collect diamonds on the final level... I guess the alliteration just sounded better? Anyway, I loved this game and you can get it as part of the Indie Puzzle Pack, which is weird because while using your brain helps, it's more of a quick reflexes game to me?

Yeah.... The PoP trilogy has been on sale on Steam for 5 cents and a smile a millions times.... we all own the PC version... I even own the physical version that came out in Europe only several years ago... That reminds me... Has digital distribution killed PC collections? I haven't seen an "official" collection in ages for the PC! Does the PC version of the Sega Megadrive collection even have extras? It looks like it's just a bundle to me... -

Like I said before, it looks like we've skipped a few generations since we went from collections of 80's games to 2000's games and that's why I feel conflicted! YAY! New collections! NOO! Where are my old school retro collections at? -
Arcanum: The game that kicked my butt and made me love it!
Tanukitsune posted a topic in Video Gaming
I never heard of Arcanum until I saw in on sale on GoG, but the idea of a steampunk RPG seemed worth the risk and boy did it pay out! I chose to play as a female "Mad Doctor" called... Agatha Heterodyne! :B As soon as I started... I got my ass handed to me... I killed everything and picked every item in that area, but the moment I tried to leave... I became wolf chow! I persisted and finally made it out of the area... by the skin of my teeth! By the time I finally made it out of that area I had used EVERY healing item, every attack item! This is the kind of game where it's not easy knowing what is the right thing to do and you'll usually do the wrong thing more than once! I'm surprised I accepted my "punishments" so well... In one dispute I chose the wrong side and ended up cursed and I just accepted it! I heard this was made by the same team that made Fallout and it shows by the sheer amount of decisions you can make, but I don't remember it being so harsh combat wise... I always barely made it out of each combat, but then again, I played it "nice" and only killed when attacked first... I also kinda got a "bad" ending, because I missed some critical side quests.. Oh...I was kinda disappointed with the steampunk part.. When I finally got to build a mechanical spider it was so tiny and slow I had to pick it up and throw it with each combat like a pokéball... The Tesla rod was awesome though! Why did I never hear of this game before? I can actually remember seeing their other games on the shelves in stores and all, but Arcanum? I never knew it existed until last week! I know Toblix has played this game, but what about the rest of you? Have you ever played what is essentially "Steapunk Fallout"? If you haven't.... get it while it's still on sale at GoG! -

Well, since it's pre-Steam the only way for us to play multiplayer would be contact everybody through some IM service and hope the connection stays stable.... And we'd probably have to set a certain time and date, like the Left4Thumbs and others... -

I haven't tried it myself, but it looks like you can host a game? The other options seem to require an account for something I doubt exists anymore... -

I'm with Twig, it's way too similar to their previous game and I didn't even like that game that much... -

Oh, yeah! I think I encountered quite a few bugs, specially in sidequests! In one sidequest I think I was supposed to escort an elf to Tarant.... Except the option to accept this quest wouldn't appear! -
Oh yeah, the ones with the "level-up" symbols are the ones that do special attacks when the justice meter is filled! Like I said, you do less damage if you don't combo, but you don't have to make mad combos, you could just use one weapon if you wanted to... If you die in a cave the money will be gone forever because the warp is OUTSIDE the cave, and the enemies health will be back, but no dying doesn't really matter that much in this game... I don't really know... Since I liked the funny comments he makes with each tutorial message I listened to all of them before the game ever started!

I'm not sure, but there is a garbage bin for lost items... although I doubt it's there. The several weapon slots are for combos, if memory serves me well you do more damage and even knock back some enemies if you get the counter high enough and the combos only happen when you use a different weapon from the last one? I'm not sure what you mean by purple weapons, but certain weapons do special moves when the justice meter is full?

I wouldn't be so sure about PC collections being worhtless, id Anthology has some obscure games that aren't on Steam and Ultima Collection isn't on Steam yet! And while many of my adventure collections are on Steam / GOG, these version don't have the extras, just the games! -

Tanukitsune replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Many of them are, but for different reasons: I love having the Parodius collection on PSP, not only because I get to play my favorite series on a portable device, it also has games from the series I've never played before. Many arcade / retro collections are worth it for the sheet volume of games they have... while others only offer a handful. But the best ones have interviews and extra content like old commercials, concept gallery... But one of my favorites is the original Namco Museum which is AN ACTUAL MUSEUM! You run around as a museum as Pac-Man with each area representing a game from the collection, some even had secrets that you had to unlock! The only disappointing ones I can think of is most of the DS ones, the barely have any games or special features... Does anybody have the HD PS3 ones? I ordered them last week, but they haven't arrived yet... I've heard the God of War collection has some extra features, but that's all I know. -
I'm still recovering from the GOG sale, dammit!

Yeah, the seal of quality looks fake... Not to mention, if that it existed, I would have traded in my copy of All Stars for it...
