Wow... I had to give up on that page... Is there more than one game named like that? I'm sure I've heard of this robot VS. fighter before, which version are you trying to emulate? Would it be too wrong to emulate the SNES version if you are having trouble with the Megadrive version or viceversa?
-
I try not to emulate older games I own, but they look just dreadful on bigger monitors and so beautiful on an emulator, the only issues you might have is with the controller.
-
Well, we all seem to be in more agreeable and in a sensible state now, but the fact is there is still an anonymous troll, I can try the whole ignoring him and I hope it will actually work this time... I was doing quite well ignoring him until now. (How childish would it be to abuse the tag limit to prevent tag abuse?)
-
Once again, you skimmed the thread, now that he's admitted he's not the only person trolling me, I can blame only him anymore, can I? Think of it this way, as a simple psychology 101 thing, what happens when a person is being trolled? Is this person calm or nervous? If this person is getting nervous do you think he's more or less likely to make mistakes? The trolling is getting to me, my hands are shaking, I'm trying to be as reasonable and rational as I can, but I am kinda being attacked by an anonymous troll I can't do nothing about, I'm trying to be calm, but if every post I make gets trolled anonymously, you can understand I feel a little hunted and nervous? I've been here for years and nobody has complained about my lack of understanding before, if this is about sarcasm and "joking around" then the troll should know you can't read sarcastic tones or a joking tone of voice. The rest I've done are simple mistakes everybody else has made, once again stop being biased! You just made a mistake the troll would have eaten me alive for how is my understand of the English language worse for making mistakes that don't really have to with English? Skimming a topic, misinterpreting and misjudging is universal, not only to every language but to all mankind!

But you admit you are one of them, right? Haven't you noticed that the only people yelling at each other are you an me? Where is this turmoil you claim I started? The only turmoil that arises is when I react to the tags and get upset and then others get upset and feel bad. So maybe this is the the other anonymous troll who started this all's fault, but you can't say I'm a troll for getting upset over getting troll when the trolling is real and you can't say I'm trolling from making mistakes others are making constantly, Thunderpeel has replied to me claiming I didn't say thing I actually did it's getting annoying, you yourself put the tag because you didn't bother to read the full post where I probably sounded like a douche if you half read it. Stop being so biased!
-
I haven't really played the game, I will when the price drops, so the story is more light? How do they deal with the revenge thing? Is everything over the top and not taken seriously? The action and the dialogue seem to fit , but you've played the game recently, right?

I've only seen Monty Python and Singing in the Rain, I vaguely remember Clerks and Team America. I'm not sure if I've heard the expression "feel good", but I think it "feels right" to what I'm trying to explain? As for the other thing, this was in my first post: You seem to be the only person here who thinks this thread is trolling, people are only getting upset because YOU claimed this was a troll thread. And if the forums feel more tense it all started when YOU started to pick on ME! And don't you dare say I'm the only person who makes mistakes, there are threads where I haven't even made a post where the exact same mistake YOU claim I only make, on purpose, and the only person who seem to get upset on my threads are YOU AND ME! And I only get upset because YOU PICK ON ME! You seem to see a incoming flame war in every time I post, and yet when a thread I haven't touched is actually getting heated, you don't say a thing? What hypocrisy! The forum was never puppies and rainbows, but it was pretty damn peaceful until YOU started with your damn anonymous tags! So.. I think you're a despicable monster troll and I think you're the reason the forum is in turmoil, you think the same of me... What do we do now?
-
Yes, you did. The whole "blue sky games" this is a reference to a campaign I linked to, many people seemed to have missed it, I guess I should have made the hyperlink stand out more? The campaign is about happier and more positive games it's called "Blue Sky in Games" because a blue sky is usually always in these kind of games. The campaign is not just colorful "kiddy" games since they mention Prince of Persia, which I think has a pretty positive message and feel to it if you ignore the emo one. It's the "nerd's curse" I guess, I always assume people know what I'm talking, since I discovered the site here, I assumed most people here would know it. Sorry about that, I explained it later but by then the thread was flooded with screenshots of blue skies.
-
Are you talking about the games at the site or the Japanese games I mentioned? I did mention before that by "blue sky games" I meant more happy and positive? Blue sky is just the slogan the site uses to promote these kind of games. I haven't played Enslaved, so I wouldn't know if it counts, but Bulletstorm definitely does not. Hmm, I can't think of any Japanese game that does photorealism in general, unless you count the Metal Gear 4 game, all the rest has at least some anime in their look. The site does mention Prince of Persia, which some think shouldn't be there, but I think that since the transformation the Prince goes through, if we ignore the emo one, gives a very positive message, he stops being a jerk, learns to care more for his people than his revenge and in the end, he learns that sometimes you have to learn from you mistakes instead or erasing them. You really think I'm making mistakes on purpose just to upset people? That's utter nonsense! Why wouldn't anybody find that humorous! "HA HA! I did that mistake on purpose and now everybody thinks I'm a dullard! But I'm not! HILARIOUS!" Then why the hell am I asking for help? Is that part of what the sick little game trolls play? "OMG! They actually feel bad and want to help me! THE IDIOTS!" If you seriously think I'm that sick, I SERIOUSLY demand an apology! Of course, I'm sure the sick little monsters game includes asking for an apology, right? Everything to a troll is trick or a ploy to confuse, annoy and anger the others, do really think I'm that sick and devious? Do you really think I find such things amusing? Then why are you constantly picking on me for my mistakes? Is calling me out on my mistakes and at the same time saying I'm doing them on purpose to be a troll another sick troll game? The only mistake I made here was thinking people would actually check the site before forming an opinion. I'm not here saying "this is fact", I'm here saying "what's this all about? What do you think?" The reason this thread seems so odd is because we are dealing with concepts that might not actually exist in any place by my mind or yours. Some think there is a European style of gaming, some think it's just mostly Western and Eastern and considering the fact that we're having so much trouble pinning down what the European style is, I'm now in the Western and Eastern side. If anything seems odd it's because we haven't pinned down the concept of "happy blue sky game", I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I'm not here saying "THIS IS WHAT A HAPPY GAME IS!", I'm here saying "Let's try to figure out what a happy game really is!". At this moment, I'm debating whether a "happy game" is just a "kids" game or if more adult games can be "happy" too.

I like the idea of an "Sokobanesque" adventure, although I must say I'd hate if the puzzles get TOO complex, like the final puzzles in the Prof. Layton games, I can never do those without a walkthrough.

To tell the truth, I always wanted a Spectrum instead of the Amstrad CPC I had as a kid, there always seemed to be more Spectrum games than Amstrad games back then, and the magazines came with free Spectrum games too! That's all that mattered to me back then! But I just remembered something, this was kinda like a golden age in a way, it was a time Spain actually made LOTS of it's own games! We had enough games to not need other countries... I never played a Spectrum game, but L'Abbay Des Morts is made to look just like one! Dammit, I think I'm feeling truly nostalgic too! I'm in the mood for Jet Set Willy! And just looking at the names at the site is bringing even more memories of games I played as a kid or wanted to play! Monty Mole! Dizzy! XpsN14TFy90 EDIT: Damn, that was the C64 version of the song, I must admit, I have no idea how a Spectrum sounds.... To Youtube! TMUJYmHYp7Y Um... j4aEHXpRaUg There! That's more like it!
-
I actually just made the same mistake you did, my brain switched off when you said "and therefore imply you were being pretentious" and then I made the post, and then I realized what I stupid mistake I made and edited the post... And I was born in Canada, although I moved to Spain when I was very little, so I might actually have the reading skills of a 5 year old. If I am actually making mistakes laughing at me won't help, I don't think I have problems reading, I can make mistakes when I skim instead of reading thoroughly, but everybody here has made that mistake at least once! I'm pretty sure someone said something like that before and I agreed, but with this mess of a thread who knows. Yes, I can see that both sides have "genres" they know don't appeal to the other side and I can see that European and American games are similar enough to be considered the same...
-
Half the posts here are people "not getting" what the others said or misreading, misjudging, etc, etc... I'm not the only one who makes mistakes here, and I'm not the only one to admit them, but why are you only calling me out on them? Also, you practically just admitted that you are trolling me, that TDNGI wasn't there 5 seconds before! If you so seriously think I'm mentally handicapped, then why do you point and laugh instead of pointing and correcting?
-
Are you being serious? You just said why people might think I was being pretentious! EDIT: It looks like I didn't read your post right.... My mistake...
-
No need to apologize, I can see what people might have thought I was being pretentious, I guess the troll only read the first line too... I'm at fault too, I guess I might feel like people don't care about Japanese games when people actually don't seem to care. I can't help but to say things like "you wouldn't care", specially when I made a post or two that was basically "Tanu is overly excited about Japanese games" and the overall reaction was "Whatever"... A pretentious person or a hipster doesn't want you to play, let's say... Silhouette Mirage? They think you don't deserve it, or that you wouldn't get it, I really REALLY would like you guys to check it out... (Seriously guys, GET THIS GAME! )
-
You didn't, but if you stop reading when I say "too obscure" what else am I supposed to think? I'm not the only one here who misread others posts here, but I do seem to be the only one called out for it... No, I don't.... I don't think I want to.
-
I actually did mention them... If people think I'm trying to be a "hipster", I wouldn't say "you don't care", I'd say "you wouldn't get it" and if I was hipster, I'd set myself on fire.
-
Wait, did you work on Jolly Rover, Emerald City Confidential and Avenue Flo too? Jolly Rover was pretty awesome, so count me in!
-
I haven't played STALKER yet, but I assume Risen and Gothic are good examples too? Arcanum and Fallout have the depth and complexity you speak of, but they put more time and / or resources to make them less "janky", although I think I get what you mean. While "janky" hardcore PC games from Japan have a little depth, it's usually in the scoring system or general gameplay and all you get from this "depth" is a better score.

I don't know if people can tell, but I'm not making statements, I'm inquiring and trying to figure things out in my head by discussing and debating. I never actually said that only US games are the top sales actually. Most of the debate now seems to be on what can be considered an influence or another region, but since we can't seem on what makes a game American or Europe, I guess it would simplify things if we just talked about Western influences in general, or we'll be arguing on what makes a game European, Western European, British, etc, etc, until the end of time... You bring an interesting point with Prince of Persia, it doesn't seem to fit the theme of the "happy games" the Blue Sky campaign is trying to convey, but at the same time, the Sand of Time Trilogy does have a pretty positive message.. if we ignore the second game. In the first game, the Prince is a prick, a snob and only thinks of glory, but at the end of his journey he becomes a better person and by the end of the trilogy he learns even more from his mistake, he learns that sometimes, you have to live with them. Does this make it happy game? Maybe, maybe not, but it's a pretty positive one with a valuable lesson that you don't really learn in other games nowadays. That's one of things I wanted to get at, but my "wordsmithery" isn't that good. Japan and Asia in general is pretty isolated culturally, which is probably why they claim their game industry is stagnating a bit.

Weren't you trying to say that Europe has influence on other developers, even Japan? Well, I believe Europe and America can influence each other, but I don't see any European influence in Japanese, so if you think Japan is receiving any influence from Europe, can you please give an example? You guys asked me to give examples of "real" and recent cheerful "blue sky games", so I think asking for an example of a game from Japan what has any European influence at all seem fair. Didn't a Japanese developer (from Capcom, can't remember the name though) say that Japanese gaming is stagnating because they refuse to innovative or accept influences from others? Japan didn't really create Quantum Theory because of American influence, they did it because they thought American liked games like this. I'd hate to sour this thread, but the anonymous tag troll is being so derping and "Lulzy" I have to call him out.... You're seriously calling me a troll? U JELLY? I can only see three reason for you to do this: 1) You actually think I'm trolling the forums, which means you see hatred, vitriol and venom in this thread... Wow, you must see hatred and despair everywhere you look! You poor unfortunate soul! I pity your pessimism! 2) You want OTHER to think I'm a troll... What? Are you kidding me? Do you think the people here are foolish enough to think I'm a troll just because such a minor disagreement? Wow, you're insulting the forums intelligence! 3) You think you're being funny... You're as funny as a 70 year old newspaper comic writer, but I guess you must be making a lot of money working for Jim Davis! Either way, I'm so happy you made just a dumb joke/prank/trolling, because from now on you can say "TANU DOES NOT GET IT!" all you want, I'll just have to remember this thread and laugh at you and your misery. Of course, since I actually reacted to the tags and mentioned them, you think you've won, you probably think I'm crying or fuming with anger foaming at the mouth and you're right, you HAVE WON! CHARLIE SHEEN STYLE! YOU ARE WHINING WINNING! I'm sorry I had to do this guys, but the anonymous troll/trolls is/are anonymous, I would have just PMed them if I could. I don't think this will happen again because they've messed up this prank so badly that even if they set my house on fire I'd die laughing at their stupidity and misery. Here's a video of red pandas playing in the snow to bring the mood back up. y6GaPkkGZGw

Can you name a game from Japan that has an Eastern European influence? Janky but super hardcore games for hardcore PC gamers doesn't sound that specific, you have to be hardcore to put up with a janky game and many of them come out on 360 and/or PS3. Also, janky but super hardcore PC games for hardcore PC gamers sounds like the definition of Touhou Project a PC bullet game series from Japan, many of the bullet hells that are coming out were originally PC games, actually.
-
We've already said that while UE3's default textures are "gritty", that doesn't mean that you can't make pretty games with them.
-
Well, I never said it's impossible to make Unreal Engine that doesn't have a gritty look, I just said it makes it easier to make the gritty ones. Hmm, can I really say there is a European style? I've played games with a British style, with a French style, but I'm not sure there is a general European style. Maybe you have to live in a country or know it's media better to notice what makes it more "local"? I think games like Runaway have a bit of a Spanish flavor to it, but I don't any Swiss in Mirror's Edge.
-
I'm not sure if we've ever talked about Japanese designers targeting a Western audience before, but yeah, it's basically that. What you've mentioned just made me remind something I heard on a podcast (Giant Bomb?), I heard that many games use Unreal Engine and that it's default texture maps are the "dark n' gritty" ones, and after looking at the list of Unreal Engine games, I think that might be another reason we have "gritty" games. I guess that adds to your "games are gritty because they are easier to make" theory. I don't know if it's an art fad, doesn't that mean it will eventually will go away? I guess time will tell.
