I'd hate to resurrect this thread, but I got this as this month's free PSN game and... I'm loving it! Before you read anymore, I must remind you that I'm very ignorant about racing games. I'm extremely confused, I've hated almost every driving game that wasn't a kart racer, I'm still trying to figure out why I love this game so much. It seems to be.. less technical? I guess the stunts can be considered technical, but it looks like you can actually managed without know how to do them? At least it looks like it so far? Is this game more forgiving or did I select easy mode and forgot? I've just reached the B license without out that much effort. I only had to break on once race because of the very steep curve, while in other racing game I struggle with the first race so much I quit. I'm also happy with just exploring the city and taking down cars and breaking signs and finding new events.

It's a good thing we resurrected the thread, since it looks like we're getting nothing new this week (we're only getting Donkey Kong 98' on Virtual Console), so we might as well catch up with what we've missed! By they way, I've noticed that the DSiWare store has the old Game & Watch games for 2€ each, which is as cheap as a DSiWare title can get?
-
Oops, I must have missed that post... I kinda like the DX version, although the extra dungeon kinda breaks the game little with the tunics, but then again, the boomerang is ridiculously game breaking strong in both versions?
-
Guys! Have you tried the "Select + Start" thing for Virtual Console games? You play them in their original resolution and with a slight 3D effect! It just makes the game "sink" like the original Game Boy screen, it's not much, but it's kinda "cute" to see them like that?
-
Wait, are you talking about that "X" vector game from the people who are making the Pixel Junk games? I didn't know they still made games for Nintendo! Oh, I should mention the only game I can't really recommend, Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ. It's more of a personal thing, but I hate that the game touts it's awesome powerups, but they are so rare, have almost no ammo and they seem to be almost useless on enemies that are actually a threat to you. The health drops are equally rare that if you combine it with the lack of checkpoints makes this a more frustrating that fun game. The game would be more bearable if it only let me use the power ups more than once in a blue moon.

*dusts off thread* Well, since the 3DS eShop is finally online, there are lots of people new to DSiWare, so I thought we should resurrect this thread, so the newcomers can talk about what they've found and liked and so the DSi owners can remember what they liked too! I already talked about Might Milk Way a bit on the completed games thread, but I'll talk about it a bit more here. This game if from WayForward, the people how made Shantae and Mighty Flip Champs (which I haven't played yet) and it's about a space girl called Luna who speaks French for some reason? She also is being chased by a cyber space dino that wants to kill her with lasers! The game has 40 levels, four worlds and 10 stages in each world, the final level being a laser dino level. Your goal is to reach the black hole at the end of the level to escape. Luna can jump from planet to planet, but the planet explodes if you jump on it twice. Bigger planets have higher gravity, so you can only escape from them if you make them explode. You can also create planets if you pick up candy and as you progress you'll find warp holes, enemies that run around the planets heat seeking enemies and of course, the laser dino levels, which are considered to be the boss levels of the game. These are the most challenging levels since the dino shoots lasers at the planets which makes them explode a few seconds later. So, what have you guys discovered? Has anybody played Mighty Flip Champs?

Hmm, I might have owned the GBA one? I'm pretty sure I owned one or two of the PSOne games too and yeah, they kinda sucked.
-
Nope, it's just the first Game Boy Color release for the Virtual Console, it does have save states, which are great for the crane mini game! The rest is exactly the same.
-
I just beat Might Milky Way a very quirky game from WayForward (of Shantae fame). It's a a basic but challenging puzzle game where you must guise Luna to the exit of the level by hopping planet to planet, you create planets with candy and bigger planets can curve your trajectory (I'm pretty sure there is a scientific name for this, but I can't remember it). I heartily recommend it! I've been discovering quite a few nice DSiWare games since the eShop, wouldn't anybody object to me ressurecting the DSiWare thread? It's been dead for years! Kolzig, I had no idea there were Duke Nukem games for the GBA and GBC, do you have the PSOne and N64 ones too?
-
Hmm, I think I remember they were going to do some connectivity thing between the DS and Wii? I guess they never did a game like that in the end? When I heard that I thought they would make a game where the DS would be some sort of futuristic gadget, a PDA that can hack and scan. I'm hoping we'll finally see a game with those functions with the Wii U.

I could swear I heard it was a day only, but I guess that was before it's actual release? Drath, it looks like you have access to the Unova Pokédex and you can unlock more by searching for AR symbol, which you can get here, getting the symbol only makes it easier to get new ones, I think you can only get three new ones per day? Also, I think you unlock more options as you unlock more Pokémon? Yesterday pressing A made me throw an apple at them, today they do a pose? I'm hoping they'll something that isn't simply Pokémon Stadium 3D, but I'm pretty if will be what they use these assets for? You can also do stuff like this:
-
That's probably why it was free for a day? I wouldn't have gotten it if I had to pay for it, it's nice to see it in 3D, but that's about it.

It's strange, but when I played Pokémon on my 3DS I had to use the "Select + Start" trick to play it, it looked dreadful without it, but none of the DSiWare games I've played so far look bad? Maybe it's a case to case scenario? We don't have Link's Awakening yet in Europe, is that the only new game in the store? I own the DX and non-DX version, yet I know I'm going to buy it when it's out here! Super Mario Land is so different! I barely remembered that game and I must confess I didn't think I'd like it, but it playing a Mario game with actual themed based worlds with each world being completely different from the last? And I had forgotten about the shmup stages! I also played Soul of Darkness, which is the most blatant Castlevania rip-off ever, but God of War upgrade system. Some of the sprites are just mild edits of the Castlevania games, and I could swear the ending music is hauntingly familiar. It's ridiculously short with only 11 short stages and only has two weapons to use, but if you want a cheap Castlevania fix it's great! Excitebike 3D looks great, but I wonder how many other classics would benefit from a 3D version? I can't think of any NES games from Nintendo that would look better with depth, I remember them all as very 2D games? How many NES games even have parallax scrolling or anything to "3D-ify"?

It's working now, the eShop is much better than I expected, they have a pretty decent search engine for the games, not to mention they actually let you "favorite" games you are interested in, which is something I think all online shops should have! If only they had demos, the eShop would be awesome! So what did you guys get? I got the 3D Pokédex (free), Excitebike (free), Soul of Darkness (SOTN clone), Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ, Super Mario Land, Shantae and Might Milky Way... Wow, the DSi Ware has more good looking games that I thought!

The eShop is finally up and... it's up for maintenance? What the...?! Why did they put it up if it's not ready? EDIT: Some people can access the shop, but some are getting a maintenance message? What is going on here!?

It's Catherine for Gregory Horror Show dressed as Atlus' Catherine! I wonder if Atlus will even have a special edition in Europe? We always get terrible ones anyway.
-
I just completed Y''S Chronicles Book I & II, it's the same games as the original, only with modern graphics and a new soundtrack, and a few alterations to the gameplay too. The game is a bit of a nightmare without maps, the world is small but easy to get lost into. It's also very "retro" and plays like a 8 bit JRPG (Which is what it was originally). I don't know why this version took out the voice acting, it's only a few cheesy lines during cutscenes, but I do miss them.
-
So? If it has enough good XBLA games you want doesn't mean it's worth getting?
-
I wouldn't be so sure about that... Europe is missing a lot of Atlus' games, and some of them are download only through PSN. Worst case scenario, I'd import the PS3 version. By the way, we are talking about THIS Catherine, right? (Bonus points to anybody who gets the reference)

Although I can't find something you can pin down as "Team Persona", it looks like they made the Trauma Center games? I only played the DS one, but the moment I watched a video of the newer ones you can tell, it sounds like they use the same music composer and the art style is the same too? So, I guess it's safe to assume that it might not have 40 hours of story, but maybe 4-6?
-
What exactly do you find so toxic about JRPGs, Rodi? Most Persona games have a super easy mode where you won't have to grind. I'm pretty sure all the Persona games are more story than game anyway. Most JRPGs today suck, but Persona is worth it. By way, I expect Catherina to have a ridiculous amount of story too, not in a Metal Gear way were there will be a five hour cutscenes, but maybe five hours of adventuring between puzzles?

If you find a control scheme that works for MGS: Peace Walker tell me, because I can't stand the controls of that game. If you enjoy Half Minute Hero, I think there is another game from that company with a similar premise? Wait, game stores no longer stock PSP games in your area? That's sad, but then again I buy my game online since there are too expensive at retail stores.

I just beat A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda, which is basically Megaman X only much MUCH easier... and shorter! You pick up the scrap left by enemies to upgrade your weapons, and you can look for hidden database entries, some of which give you upgrades. You get unlimited grenades if you complete the database, breaking the game even more!

Is there a word for when you squee with glee and scream with terror at the same time?

Remember that time Thomas Edison became evil and Tesla was the only person who could stop him? You know, when he unleashed all those evil robots? Well, this is the game based on that very true story! This isn't your typical physics puzzle game, for one thing you play as Tesla, which already makes it awesome, and Mark Twain is the narrator. Not enough? O.K., there's more! As you have probably guessed by the title, Tesla has weather powers and as you play the game you unlock more and more, it's not much of a spoiler telling you which, since you can see the powers you'll get in the HUD. You start off with lighting and then... levitation? Since lighting is your main power water will shock you, but it will also shock the robot, so getting the rain power can make things interesting, specially when you get the sun power to dry up the water. The final power is snow which freezes the water. You also collect minerals to spend on power ups for your weather powers, like making it rain faster or making the sunlight damage enemies. The really impressive thing this game has going for it is that it's not that easy to "break" like most physics puzzle games. I unlocked a power that allowed me to levitate something while I was still on it and by the time I could afford it, it barely helped. It's biggest flaw? The water physics are horrid, water moves like very thick porridge. Oh, I nearly forgot! You can collect pigeons to make you jump higher and further! It's less than 4 dollars now, and it's probably one of the most humorous and entertaining physics puzzle game I've played this year, I most heartily recommend it!
