  1. General Video Game Deals Thread

Sweet Mother of Mothra! Does it say anywhere which games will be on sale later?
  2. Nintendo 3DS

Well, I've always wanted to play Avenging Spirit even if it's Game Boy port of the original arcade game, so I guess I was too excited to care? You can possess a wizard with a kitty hood! Not to mention this is an EARLY Game Boy game... Did I mention you can possess a robot that shoots missiles?
  3. Nintendo 3DS

You play as the red demon from Ghost N' Goblins, if that helps? I remember liking it as a kid, but that's about it.
  4. General Video Game Deals Thread

It looks like the Euro PSN store is having a MASSIVE PSP sale, it's as ludicrous as a Sony sale could get, they have pretty decent PSP games for 12, 9 and 5 Euro! I wonder why the US store doesn't have it? Anyway, they have lots of the more popular games on sale: GTA, Katamari, Prince of Persia, Monster Hunter... There is something of every genre for sale!
  5. Nintendo 3DS

With this and Avenging Spirit the eShop is starting to look decent, it's good to have game from bigger names that aren't Nintendo there. Did the Wii ever get the SNES version of Gargoyle's Quest?
  6. Deus Ex

What do you mean by doing it right? From behind and without being noticed? Does it matter which part of the body you hit with a stun prod?
  7. Deus Ex

Are you sure? I haven't tried other melee weapons, but I always use the prod which usually needs two hits from behind for me to work? PS: System Shock 1&2 have been on my list of game to get for ages, I hope GOG or someone else gets them soon!
  8. Deus Ex

Will it help my "stealthy kills"? I'm still kinda new to this kind of game, but I would really like to know if in these kind of games a stealth kill should be a one hit kill if done right? That reminds me, when I started the game I stuck to the crossbow and used tranquilizer darts, it was rather hilarious to hit a guard and follow it and see it fall right in front of the alarm button, it was my own little meta game in that level.
  9. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

Hmm, it does sound familiar now that you mention it. According to the author's site, he worked on Knytt Stories' music, come to think of it, it does sound like Knytt a bit? Big Mama is the closest thing this game has to a boss, she's not too bad unless you want to get the hidden treasure or even worse, a gold star!
  10. Deus Ex

I actually started to play with it today, I tried to play with it before, but the controls confused me and I it simply didn't "click" with me. Now I managed to get all the buttons mapped to a controller and I can actually play the game now! Anyway, I don't know where I am, I just blew a generator and I'm back in New York. It bothers me that I can't kill an enemy with a headshot, maybe my accuracy is just too low? I just feels weird that headshots don't do that much and the shotgun I finally decided to pick can't kill an enemy even when I shoot him while right in front of them. The only stealth item that seems to work is the cattle prod, which is fun!
  11. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

Yeah, I'm at around level 30 and timing had become crucial and now I'm lucky to beat the level, screw the secret chest! EDIT: I finally beat the game and unlocked all the secret blocks that reference other block games. Some are a bit of a stretch.... Rayman because of the cages? Metal Gear because of the box?
  12. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

I think they don't use the full names in the trailer to avoid people from thinking this? Most people don't even know "Notch's" real name. It can be a bit confusing, although the trailer says "Featuring", not "developed by" To tell the truth, I didn't even notice that part of the trailer and I didn't really notice that I was rescuing Notch and Alexey until I started to play the game. I've reached the next upgrade and as I advance I see more and more "Minecraft" blocks, as a matter of fact, you have to get ore in upgrade levels.
  13. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

Well, the people you have to rescue are called Alexey and Markus, they don't give them the full names, but it's pretty safe to assume that Alexey is Alexey Pajitmov and Markus is Markus Persson (Notch) but they didn't make the game, they are just in it? I wonder why they didn't have the full names? It's obvious it's them and I assume Notch and Alexey are OK with this game, but maybe it's just to be safe?
  14. Blocks That Matter: An Ode To All "Blocky" Game?

I just love trying to unlock the secrets just to see the whole "museum of block games"!
  15. Maybe I should said the general pace of a game? Sure an escort mission can and usually kills the pace of the game, but the pace of the game can be bad from the beginning. Sometimes you can spend hours lost and feeling like you're not making progress, sometimes it's your fault, sometimes it's the game fault, but sometimes... It's just how the game is? You can spend 10 hours in the same area with the same equipment and no story progression and that's exactly how the programmers intended it to be, and that's bad pacing. Anything added to make the game longer? I'm pretty sure it's the same as with movies? A movie doesn't need a five minute scene with the main character brushing his teeth, the same way a game doesn't need a QTE mini-game of the main character brushing it's teeth. But they were both added why? Because they thought they needed more content and lenght!
  16. Really? I could swear people whine the most about length now, like Angry "FOUR HOURS!?!?!" Joe and everybody who said Portal 2 is too short even though it's longer than the original. People are complaining ARCADE games are too short, that's how bad things are getting. Sno, there are things that just can't get better over time. Sure, the story can get better and your character can develop and gain better powers, but if the controls are bad or the pace is terrible it's likely not to improve.
  17. I guess you hit the target with the "artificial tedious crap" thing. Fallout has a world where they put of work and is worth exploring, other games want you to find 200 "generic item #54" just for an achievement or the ever popular "you can't leave this area until you're fight monsters for 20 minutes".
  18. I don't mind if a game is long if it doesn't feel long, Persona 4 was ridiculously long, but it never felt long to me. Although I always thought the length of game can affect how you feel about a game, a short game doesn't give you that much time to find all the annoyances, repetitiousness, bugs and other problems you'll find if it's longer. But yeah, Rodi, games are getting too long now, even modern "arcade" games are way too long.
  19. Episodic games require so little time investment compared to others I'm pretty sure I've finished every episodic game I have and I have the same reasons others have mentioned for not finishing the non episodic ones. Although if a game is boring, too hard or a bit bad, I cheat if I can or maybe watch a longplay or Let's Play. I tend to play the game enough to at least be completely sure of the exact reason I hate the game before quitting it, that way I can avoid whatever bothered me in future games. It's usually thing like bad controls, bad pacing or broken in way that makes the game harder for the player (I'm fine when it's broken in my favor, though! ) Toblix, I played a pretty new Ubisoft game on my PC and while it did ask for email and password, it only asked for it once? I'll pretty sure they asked for email and password in the last console Ubisoft game too?

I also beat Splinter Cell: Conviction recently, which was probably a bad idea since it spoiled the other games a bit. I think it was too "FPS-y", I was playing on easy and near the end even if you got a stealth headshot it would NEVER kill the enemy, so it always ended in a gun fight.... I skipped a a few games in the series, but I never had to fight this many enemies in the older games! I know the game has a "mark & execute" move, but near the end of the game it's not that useful. I wouldn't mind if the new Splinter games followed this one's steps if it had more stealth and less gun fights, or at least let a head shot kill an enemy, dammit!
  21. Please oh please oh please let this be true...

I wouldn't be surprised if what the 3DS is getting is just a port of the original game, if we are getting a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and an HD collection, why not do the same for the Zone of Enders? The 3DS isn't doing that well and a remake seems less risky than a new game? Although I'm hoping for a new game, I'm not keeping my hopes up.

I just beat Mafia II and I loved it while I'm not a big fan of gangster games, I love the 50's world it takes place in... OK, I lie, it was pretty awesome to get a tailored suit with a trench coat and gun down people with a tommy gun and I only use the tommy gun unless it's not available to me. It was so great to listen to the radio, visit a 50's diner and I'm glad it didn't have all that extra padding every other sandbox game has, well it has it as DLC missions, which I play for a while but didn't like. This is being nitpicky, but I don't see people swearing like they did back then.

I beat Chantelise, it's strange to see the 2D characters in a 3D world, but it works! It has lots of extra stuff to do, secret treasures to find, fishing, secret areas... The way the game play is weird, you only level up your HP and you gain some extra items slots by beating bosses which you need to carry items that increase your other stats. The magic is weird too, you have to pick up magic stones to make a spell and you can only use them in the order you pick them up. The most interesting thing is the economy, the items that you can sell decrease in value each time you sell one, which can be annoying if you actually need the money.
  24. Happy Birthday!

    Happy B-Day, Rodi! :3

I was away for week in the middle of nowhere so I beat a LOT of games! Rayman 3D, Double Dragon, Donkey Kong 98, Alleyway, Fortified Zone, Mario's Picross (Easy levels). Most of the games on SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 0, Rapid Angel, Panzer Bandit, Adventures of Little Ralph, Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder and Schbibinman 2 & 3...
