  1. Rayman Origins

Did everyone end up loving this game? I finally made it to this and it's so awesome. I'm doing all of the high scores and time trials as I finish each level, so I'm not proceeding as quick as most probably would. It's for the best though as the level will be fresh in my mind instead of going back after beating the game and cleaning up. I think I'm about two thirds through if the electoon count is anything to go by. Every time I play this I get so addicted and exhausted at the same time. The difficulty curve is so slight but so smooth that every level kind of feels like a major step up in difficulty but you have a total handle on it. I think this is harder than the first Rayman but the checkpoints are very common so it balances out. Plus the checkpoints are more of a strategy on getting enough lums per level as you purposefully die multiple times until you get the hang of the timing and secrets to get as many lums per area. I'm not a big fan of the treasure chase levels though. So far they are harder than any time trial in the game I've played so far as they require you to be so precise and on time for a sustained period of time. You mess up and it's over. I probably average about 30 tries per treasure level at this point and it's pretty strange that these levels are required to finish the game. Also I love all of the nods to Rayman 1, including some notes of the music appearing here and there. It kind of combined the lore of Rayman 2, but it pretty much feels like every Rayman game the story is completely rebooted and has nothing to do with the game before outside of some reoccuring characters. Also the title is fucking stupid? Why is it called Origins? There's no such trace of an origin story or really any story in this. That's fine and all but the name is super cliched for no reason. Legends is even worse. I also don't know how well co-op works in this. Seems like if you want to 100% the game, co-op is pretty useless and you'd have to replay every level alone otherwise. Everyone would just mess up the secrets and timed sequences. I'm also not going to lie, I love looking at the very round and sexy fairies.
  2. Life

That's so awesome, I love when people do shit like that. Littering is the worst. Two places of residence ago there were these trashy neighbors a few duplexes down that would take a shopping cart from the nearby grocery store and just leave it in the middle of the street, sort of near the mailboxes. Eventually the shopping cart would be moved right next to the mailboxes and become the trash bin for the junk mail for all of the residents nearby. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with everyone but that's basically littering and it's not like the garbage men empty a fucking shopping card. Plus all of the junk mail would either blow around or get rained on and be a sopping mess. I eventually started throwing all that crap away and then moving the shopping cart a couple of blocks down and turn it upside down, but then it would reappear next to the mail again like a week later. I kept repeating this gesture until I think the H.E.B. sent someone out to collect their cart, as I hear they pay people to do that. However, it didn't matter because give it a couple of weeks and the nasty neighbors would leave another cart and then repeat the whole fiasco step by step ending me flipping the shopping cart upside again. God litter pisses me off. The last neighborhood I lived in when we were renting a house had a somewhat large CRT TV that sat on the curb for a few weeks with a busted screen. I couldn't fucking believe it, but I didn't want to pick that up and throw it away. Eventually it was just the front part with the screen as the back went missing. I have no idea why that would happen or who would pry it apart. It wasn't laying anywhere nearby. Did someone want the components inside? Fucking trash arrrgh.
  3. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

I just try to restructure my spoiler stuff so that it doesn't look funny now with the big tag of text. For a while I kept forgetting and thinking the black bars were still there and everything was becoming a mess.
  4. ObjectiveGameReviews.com - A Subtle Journey of Discovery

I think people will forget in a few months anyone said it was a joke and start reading the site for what it is again. The press and their cycles man!
  5. Amy Hennig and Naughty Dog Part Ways

Well yeah, Star Wars is bullshit, complete and utter bullshit. Sure there were some meritable and creative ideas put forth in some respect in nearly every movie but that's all I'm going to give it. There's enough of that franchise for eons now. Indiana Jones just as much, except with that there has been less saturation in merchandise, bad ideas, and ugly fans on that front. I don't rate IPs based on how "successful" they are in monetary and popular, so this conversation between you and I is just not going to work. I also don't really give any credence to you trying to cram Half Life in to this conversation when it basically has nothing to do with anything being talked about here, in terms of gameplay style or cinematic form. Yeah existing IPs, especially those owned by Disney or whatever megacorp are limiting to whatever artist or creator who may be dipping their pen in to it. There's no other way around it. I don't know if this is shocking to you or what, but stating that dumb tripe like The Avengers sold well so therefore it's always a good idea is unconvincing (to me at least, since I also really dislike anything by Whedon.) Obviously I understand sometimes the right creators can make something interesting or unconventional with the IP, but that's not a very high percentage. I still have yet to use the word "breakthrough" to refer to Uncharted, but you seem to insist that this is what I'm saying. I do think the series did some really interesting things and (outside of the first game) did them well and broke a convention or two despite how obviously derivative they are. I can't understand whether you are more upset about the gameplay or story, but as far as the Indiana Jones tropes go, the character archetypes are there, but the fact that Elena is a real character who is there for all three games instead of being written out for the next hot starlet shows what kind of thought was put in to the story more than a usual Hollywood screenwriter could come up with. That single fakeout of the Indiana Jones trope in Uncharted 2 when you meet back up with Elena and the quip of "last year's model," is extremely cool. Also you seem pretty hung up on being angry about Uncharted. I'm guessing you have never played a Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver game, which were successful enough around the turn of the century to get very confusingly named sequels and have a cult following of their own for earlier action/adventure gameplay mechanics and story as well. I really think you need to chill out, every message you've put here tends to be some narrative in your head of things I never said. My actual predictions from this news, given the gargantuan IP at hand and Disney money, will involve Hennig either leaving before the project is complete or sticking around until the product is shipped for the sake of credit and then leaving anyway.

It wasn't only a shooter though, you are forgetting the platforming and world interaction, which also has it's roots in certain sections of Soul Reaver. Levels in Uncharted have tended to flow in service of the story instead of constantly ramping up difficulty and keeping a game that should otherwise be systematic new and fresh. However, I'd argue in Uncharted 3, this is somewhat of a detriment to the game as well. I liken the success of Uncharted closer to a hybrid of all of the good bits of Sands of Time and Metal Gear Solid. But I think you've already made up your mind. Also Half Life (1 and 2) is ugly and has super awkward character acting and animation sooo.... But seriously, ask yourself this: if Uncharted 2 were a licensed Indiana Jones game, would it have been anywhere as good?
  7. Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK they made a video of it! I get laughter tears every time I hear it. Christ.
  8. Amy Hennig and Naughty Dog Part Ways

Yeah, I mean, I'll most likely end up playing this game. I guess I was just hoping for something more.
  9. Amy Hennig and Naughty Dog Part Ways

Well that's lame. Nothing makes me more bored than hearing the words Star Wars. Even knitting is more interesting, way more interesting actually.
  10. Life

    Wow, that was quick! Congratulations!
  11. Twitter :)

It means that idle banter is a free for all of pointless spam posts.
  12. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I had this, no joke. Later on I just got a light. Think was a cheapo bulky plastic piece of shit.
  13. anime

He's doing more things! Hooray! He said in the Kick Heart documentary he was thinking of quitting and that was his last ditch effort to make another cartoon. I guess I should read the scanlation I have had of Ping Pong now, kind of neat that it also involves Taiyo Matsumoto. They also already have made a live action movie of Ping Pong years ago. I own it but I was waiting to see it after I got around to reading the comic. Hopefully this doesn't take the three year average of an English language version.
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

Does your name origin go that far back, dibs?
  15. Life

I know that feeling. I think the only way I dealt with it was to get out of the apartment as much as possible. Then later it became a place to play video games forever with no one mad about it. But yeah, that sucks, hopefully it's not too tough on you.
  16. Discworld

Weird, Mort is my favorite so far (I've only read up to Reaper Man though, in order). I agree Merus, it's nice because it's so self contained and feels more like the complete and rounded books that would come later like Guards! Guards!, Moving Pictures, and Pyramids.
  17. anime

If that were real furry porn there'd be way more nipples. Just sayin'.
  18. Life

You have to put him in a plastic bubble. That's the only way.
  19. Intoxicated:

This sounds like the loveliest job!
  20. Life

Geez, I guess I need another job because the temp one where I stuff envelopes which was supposed to last until August downsized from 12 employees to six for the next task there. So now I don't have a paycheck all over again and that job was more than acceptable. Maybe I'll get called back at a later date, but who knows. Guess I wasn't a fast enough envelope stuffer to be part of the lucky six. I'm just kind of annoyed with my luck in life because I'm tired of only having bad news for everyone in my life. I feel like such a whiner. On a brighter note though, I think I may go back to college in two months since now I'm free for the summer semester. I just gotta figure out how paperwork works.
  21. Amy Hennig and Naughty Dog Part Ways

Why would you go to Riot? Surely that is not better? Uhhhh...
  22. InFAMOUS Vanaman

I'll definitely be playing this in 2017-2019.
  23. GDC '14: With Tom Francis

Way outdated Chocolate Rain reference from Chris. I felt such joy!
