  1. Dual audio in Games (The Weaboo's Lament)

Funimation seems like they have four obnoxious voice actors to choose from and I absolutely hate them for it.

His small part in Brazil is fucking amazing. I'll miss him.
  3. Net Neutrality

Everywhere I've ever moved in both Austin and Houston has only given me two choices between some company or other, usually Comcast/Time Warner being one of them. Clear used to be available and I was using them for a few years but I moved somewhere where there was no tower around and Sprint bought them out anyway. You pretty much have to pay for cable internet to get decent speeds. Apparently U-Verse with AT&T is good, but fuck if I'm paying $100+ a month for that package. It doesn't really matter because all of these companies have poor customer service and completely unknowledgeable techs. If you skirt around renting their overpriced piece of shit modem by buying or already having your own, they fucking hassle you every time anyway acting like it's something you did with your modem should an outage ever occur. I guess the sum of what I'm saying here is all of these major corporations already have us by the balls anyway, so at this point I feel like changes in net neutrality laws, while I disagree with them, isn't going to impact me in any way whatsoever. However it will impact small businesses I hear, but only as far as their web services. Why can't there be any small business ISP providers? Can we do that yet?

So the games with a major discount still stay yours after you unsubscribe right?
  5. Dual audio in Games (The Weaboo's Lament)

The thing is, even if you have a game that has like 4 different spoken languages inside, often it doesn't matter because switching to that language means that all subtitles and UI will change too. I realy can't think of any game I've played from an international developers that allowed original language and subtitles. I remembered I wanted to play Whispered World with the original German language on since the voice actors were so bad, but no luck as they were not on the disc. The last game I remember being able to do any of this on was Sonic Adventure 2, which I also did because how horrible the voice actors are. But Sonic is mostly horrible anyway and I shouldn't have wasted my time playing that game. I sometimes wonder if I would like Professor Layton in the original Japanese, but I like the U.S. voice actors so much that it doesn't matter to me. I can tell however when they are stretching or cramming lines in certain parts of the cutscenes.
  6. San Francisco Residents!

Haha, looking at that scale I guess my routine drives from Austin to Houston and back would probably be obnoxiously long to a lot of Europeans. I wish I had the funds to travel more, I hope to one day get a great job and put all of my money towards that instead of books, games, and movies.

Yeah, that stuff was all over her blogs way before Skull Girls even started. I wouldn't be surprised to find out she was the main catalyst for the sex appeal.

Is it possible to plug the hard drive in to a PC and get all of your old save data off of it?
  9. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Hey if you guys have a WiiU (or even if you are thinking of getting one), can you send a complaint to Nintendo about their stupid backup save function? It's detailed on this reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/wiiu/comments/1zd7fz/write_nintendo_wii_u_save_files/ I'll put the quote here in case no one wants to click. But yeah I don't like the idea that my backup saves can only go to a USB stick formatted to one system. I've already had to transfer saves from two dead systems to a replacement with a flash drive in my life and it's no good to learn your backups are basically useless after it's too late. In fact, the Wii allowed you to back up saves on SD card, so Nintendo has gone a step backwards here (the SD slot on the WiiU is pictures only). It's some kind of stupid safety maneuver I'm guessing, but it's pointless. The main reason I would ever back up my saves in the first place is just in case the system died. The only time I ever really make back up saves for games in progress is if there are known game stopping bugs.
  10. Feminism

I really despise the art for that article. Why on earth is it so bad? What were they thinking?
  11. Cartoons!

I think above all Mind Game is a must see, since I think that's his most famous work and it's a self contained and multilayered movie. I'd also recommend his short on the first Genius Party anthology. Cat Soup is also a hilarious short he worked on, but he's not a director there, just the animation director and is credited for the story. Kemonozume is apparently a great show but I haven't watched it yet.
  12. Other podcasts

I'll give that one a try too. I ended up really like The Bugle, International Waters, and Not a Game Podcast. There's some I still haven't gotten to though (I also don't have that job anymore but I still need a wealth of podcasts for life it seems).

How can you fit the Virtual Boy in all that towel space?

  15. Cartoons!

No, he's my favorite damn you! Well, not exactly, he only did character design on that Wakfu short, no directing or animating duties. I think coming off of Kick Heart, the Adventure Time episode seems pretty in line with a lot going on there. Hey, since you guys are all proclaimed Yuasa fans, can you try to help me complete my collection of his stuff? The one thing I'm missing of him before I make a DVD of his unreleased directed works is an English translation of his Slime Adventures short. I was trying to pay a friend of a friend who knew Japanese to type all the subs out at some point and I'd just make the .srt myself, but then she disappeared (actually, just ignoring me). I don't have the money to pay people to translate things anymore though. Possibly this needs to be in the anime thread?
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

lso I watched The We and the I the other day, Michel Gondry's unreleased movie in the Americas before his most recent unreleased movie in the Americas. I actually have owned this DVD for a few months and I was put off on watching it because of so many lukewarm to bad reviews. A lot of critics seemed to indicate it had no resolution or cohesive story, making me fear it was going to be some kind of boring meandering documentary like Gondry's pointless Thorn in the Heart. Nope, this one definitely is a Gondry hit I think. I sort of have a soft spot for teen drama I guess, but this movie was cruel, hilarious, touching, obnoxious, sad, and felt about as real as a French man is going to get with kids in Brooklyn. It's also a bit fascinating how the movie came together with the kids improving a lot of the dialogue and story ahead of time in rehearsals. It's a shame this went so under the radar. My take on every Gondry movie post Sunshine getting so much criticism, deserving or not (since the guy does tend to be hit or miss), is that there are a bunch of angry Charlie Kaufman fans who really want to see the guy fail. If not the Kaufman fans, then instead it's failed screenwriters with a chip on their shoulder who want to make an example of a director does not have some great screenwriter backing up their movie. I started it yesterday, and now I want all of the rest right now. It's so dry it's great. I was afraid the series would retread old ground too much but I feel like it's a completely different breed than Office Space. I wish there was a way I could have HBO's online streaming without owning some kind of bloated cable package I'll never use. I'd say there's no "easy" way in the United States either, but I suppose it's legal.

It's okay to do those things when you're young and cute, but just wait until she's in her 60s. The townspeople will be battering down the door to her cobbled estate to burn her at the stake.
  19. Recently completed video games

I finished Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty after spending about 5 months chipping away at an 100% save file for Secret Agent Clank. Secret Agent Clank is absolute bullshit. It has all the extra skill points and leveling up as any other Ratchet and Clank game, but then adds a bunch of dance minigames you have to be perfect on and fucking mind numbing weapon grinding the series has yet to ever see (and I'm guessing after). Besides that the big draw to the game, the stealth, was fucking stupid clunky shit, Secret Agent Clank is just a bundle of mini interludes of detached levels with multiple characters. The one thing I was hoping the game would be, Clank controlling the Gadgebots, was nonexistent. There's Gadgebots controlling eachother, but usually it's press square to bite x100. And nearly every fucking skill point was some kind of herculean task requiring me to retry a level over and over a hundred times to perfect some badly designed level (usually filled with unskippable cutscenes) and not get hit or almost worse, don't get caught in one of the 30 minute long stealth based levels. What precedence had been set before that a Ratchet and Clank game should be that hard? This is a handheld game! I had played all of the fucking things chronologically up until Agent Clank, and not even the BADASSXTREEEEME black sheep Deadlocked had skill points like that. In fact, Deadlocked was relatively easy. Fuck Secret Agent Clank, I almost wanted to give up on the whole series because of it. In fact, I don't even want to see Clank in a god damn bowtie ever again. I'm sure if you don't have an OCD need for 100%, Secret Agent Clank is probably more of a forgettable and shoddy portable cash in for the Ratchet and Clank series. Anyway, Quest for Booty was awesome and I had a lot of fun for a few hours with no grinding or OCD hang ups. In fact, it's the first Ratchet and Clank I have encountered that doesn't require a second playthrough. Now I have a pirate hat for Crack in Time, which I have just started and have properly filled my pupils with its eye candy. There is a burping mating call monster gun. Happiness is restored.

  21. Beyond Good and Evil 2

Well it seems like he's accustomed to smaller teams. Like the first 45 seconds of the twenty minute Rayman Origins credits.
  22. Beyond Good and Evil 2

If I understand correctly, Legends wouldn't even been produced if it were based on the abysmal week one sales of Origins alone. It was word of mouth that eventually made Origins profitable after a few months. I also think part of it is they don't want to piss off Michel Ancel who has been with the company since 1990 and is pretty much pivotal in their growth as a company during that whole decade. I forgot that rumor blog that used to be around (Surfergirl or something?) But it seems Ancel has threatened to quit more than a few times.

Is that a remake of a League of Legends portrait of a female character??

  25. Beyond Good and Evil 2

I get the feeling the HD version didn't sell so well. I remember the offical Beyond Good and Evil forums were filled with angry fans boycotting the product for not offering separate X and Y camera inverted options and instead only offered inverting both at a time (even though this is the exact same as the original game). The camera in Beyond Good and Evil doesn't bother me since I have been thoroughly subjected to third person platformers and action games from the time. Nothing is as terrible as Jak 1's camera and even Wind Waker HD carries a lot of the same annoyances, although Nintendo tried to improve it with a lot more camera freedom than before. Then a lot of people were angry early on because of the removal of the motion blur stuff. Ubisoft also removed all the blur from the Prince of Persia HD versions and there was similar outcry, but I am guessing those did well anyway because they were released in box form with the whole trilogy. Maybe the Chinese team that did all of the Ubisoft remakes should have just left in the bloom and blur it in to make everyone stop fighting about it, but I hear their reasoning was to not put a damper on the new HD stuff because supposedly a lot of those effects were used in the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox era to cover up lower res textures and jagged polygons. The only terrible HD remake Ubisoft did was Rayman 3, because they fucked up a lot of lighting and water effects, created an easy to trigger game breaking bug where you cannot access the last level, and had multiple instances where the UVWs on textures were all mixed up. That kind of explains why that one was quietly released a couple of years after the other HD versions. Also Ubisoft completely fixed the internet code generator for the last Mdisk on the Beyond Good and Evil website, allowing for 100% completion again. It had been broken for 5-6 years before. It'll probably break again at some point.
