  1. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

Christ, can they please fucking make Swapnote work again? People enjoyed my crappy doodles and now I don't get any more compliments in life.
  2. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

I want them to stop making New Super Fucking Mario Bros. Actually in general, I want them to make less games a year of their franchises. They release way too much for any normal person to keep up with. I also want them to start their Taxi business again.
  3. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

It's those cards they used to make pre 1970, Forbin. They printed money! Geez, revisiting Wikipedia, I forgot how many insanely different business ventures Nintendo got themselves into before video games.
  4. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

Yeah that's how I feel. I guess to me, just because a company is not on top anymore doesn't mean they die. It doesn't seem like any Nintendo fan (and there are a lot of them for sure) is going to give up on the Nintendo staples any time soon. Obviously they are trying to experiment here a bit with emerging markets for the sake of making some profit. I'm sure they'll pull out if profit doesn't get made. How is that going to kill them? Also Majesco has made a ton of bad decisions, but rereleasing a cheapo version of the Game Gear with the built in games wasn't one of them. The hardware was better than the originals but the plastic was way cheaper. Win win for everyone who never wanted a Game Gear first time around plus other countries can now afford them. Why isn't Pepsi dead? Anyway, there's really not enough info in this news announcement for me to speculate much.
  5. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I haven't played The Curse of Monkey Island in over a decade, so possibly I would have an ear for it these days since I know it is supposed to be there. I have always noticed it in Monkey 2 however. Maybe one day I'll revisit it.
  6. Plug your shit

Don't hit the Kirbys? But I love Kirbys.
  7. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Ah okay. It's funny, that list is actually what made me want to get the PS2 version, since it seems to list a lot of pros and then in the final paragraph discards them all. Seems to me all of the listed advantages make for a much better game. I don't think I noticed much choppiness nor did the load times stick out, but I suppose I'm so used to games loading these days even on systems with a hard drive that I don't care anymore. I'm also not sure I've ever noticed iMuse with any of the digital LucasArts soundtracks, but that's just me (although I can definitely see what a mess the Special Editions are with their handling of it). But hey there are apparently unimportant extra lines of dialogue! I also preferred the Giant Monkey head to be brown again even if it was still an ugly monochromatic 3D model. They didn't really do well emulating Steve Purcell's artwork/background. IOh well, guess I'll have to agree to disagree on this one since I'm not convinced the PC version is the better version. Also on their completely false claims of 9x the added polygons, someone did rip the model of Guybrush from PS2 on the mixnmojo forums at some point and compared it to the PC one. He had 4-5 extra polys around each his sleeve ends where the edges weren't made so sharp. It's such a minor detail that would in no way be noticeable on a 640x480 game. I'm still somewhat curious how the other character models compared even if just to see how silly the differences were.
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

I get enraged when I see fake mustaches on a stick or even worse a mustache on the finger tattoo. Please stop everybody. Even people close to me have caught the plague. Also I think the phrase "hot mess" has about reached the end. I thank Jack in the Box for making some kind of awful food with the name. That is about the only time I will ever thank Jack in the Crack (as my dad called it growing up). Also my dad calls McDonald's "Dirty Macs." Also for about three years when he swore he usually said, "dog dick."
  9. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

    EVERYONE STOP SAYING BESPOKE
  10. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

How is the PC version better? Less compression on audio and video all around is nice since it's now on a DVD-rom and they have lightly added some more indiscernible polys here and there as well as a concept art gallery. Monkey Kombat is way less tedious as well. All of that stuff is a bonus and everything else is the same on PS2, plus it controls better. I don't understand.
  11. Life

Yeah I had an electric mower for a while and all of this rings true. It was used so I don't know how bad it was treated before hand but it lasted me about six months. I suspect it was because I mowed a few times with the morning dew. I also found it to be pretty weak compared to a gas mower as well. I tried a traditional push mower for about 8 months but it really did not go well. I usually had to go over the yard about 2-3 times to even get good results and it was really bad about getting weeds and stray strands of grass. I ended up using the weed eater a ton to just compensate, thus wasting even more electricity than probably the electric mower. I also tried to sharpen this damn thing every other time and still no luck. Also the yard for that place was rough central Texas grass and weeds that were hard to deal with even with the gas mower. Compared to my parents house in Houston where the grass was a nice cushiony bed of Saint Augustine that prevented weeds, it was hell.
  12. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

Yeah this seems like a good thing. Apparently it's already been happened with the iQue. How does this mean Nintendo is dead or dying? I don't even understand what the alarmist nature of this thread is. Even if so 2016 is not the death of Nintendo even if you were to go with something as simple as their cash reserves as the main reason why.
  13. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

I often use Premiere and think it works just fine. I'd avoid the CS4 version though, it has major frame rate/blending issues. I don't think you really have to mess with After Effects if you want to keep it as simple as possible, since Premiere already has a lot of the functions After Effects has, just the light versions of them (like color correction, minor effects, keyframing certain elements). The major thing I hate about Premiere is that it doesn't seem to recognize most newer video formats unless it's an mpg, mp4, or mov. Maybe this is asking a bit too much, but I sure would love to be able to just drag and drop an flv, vob, or mkv in to the program and just be done with it. Instead I have to go the extra step and use Freemake to convert, which is just simply a waste of time. I've never used any other major video editing software though, so I have no idea how it compares.
  14. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I'm glad you liked Grim Fandango in the end. I got the feeling from your messages that you weren't having a good time, suppose I was reading it wrong. I'd recommend the PS2 version of Monkey 4 with the PS2/PS3 gamepad if you can though.
  15. Jerkiest Main Characters in Video Games

This is a great topic. Post main characters that are jerks. I would say I'm doing research for my amazing thesis, but I've got nothing. I will start with Mario. He's always yelling, "Hey paisanos!" That translates to "peasants" in Italian. It's incredibly rude to call every fan a peasant, like we are so below the great and super Mario. He thinks he is king, but the princess has never agreed to marry him, so he's really just like everyone else in the Mushroom Kingdom. Plus he doesn't even own a crown like King Koopa, who only seems to be king of his castle and the inhabitants within. At least that guy is realistic.
  16. Jerkiest Main Characters in Video Games

This is so horrifying. All of that creepy misanthropic dialogue coming from that terrible plastic facial animation. I hope this is not what robots will become.
  17. Recently completed video games

I completed Ratchet and Clank Crack in Time! Well I did last week, I'm still doing the second playthrough right now. Holy fucking shit, I think it might be the best Ratchet and Clank I've played yet. Everything was so pretty and the new Clank time puzzles were so difficult and perfect. Insomniac delivered well over my expectations here.
  18. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Yeah don't bother because it's not by Nintendo, it's by a company called Arzest (formerly Artoon). So unless you loved such classics as Blinx the Time Sweeper, Pinobee, and Blue Dragon, I wouldn't waste your time. There's just too many games to play in life as it is.
  19. Jerkiest Main Characters in Video Games

He was also a murderer in the official comics: I almost wanted to cry when I first saw him ruin his stamp collection, even if it was disappearing ink. The guys at Lucas Arts must have been bullies growing up. That always makes me think of this great Mario RPG comic where Mario, Geno, and possibly Mallow walk in and ransack the place, but I can't find it anymore.
  20. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

It's such a great comic, but I've only read past Chinatown. I'm wondering if it gets better or worse after that. The art is great but sometimes Eric Powell draws faces like he was sitting at an angle and drew them so they skewed to the side. It's odd and I wish I could unnotice it. I also don't like when the comic comes too violent and crass (like easy poop or whore jokes), but it's all really well balanced and the main storyline seems like it evolves well enough to stay interesting and plus the emotional side stories of characters are great when the appear. Plus I like when Goon punches around giant lizard men. I'm a bad person because I'm going to wait for the final tpb even though I know that's what makes creators their money. I think it's already confirmed though since Dorkin has mentioned it on his blog more than a few times. Yeah I gave my money but it sort of doesn't make sense because Tank Girl always gets published. Before the Kickstarter it was announced all of the IDW stuff would be republished by Titan Books who also published the collections. But sometimes Image publishes the Tank Girl comics and it's not clear why. Tank Girl is weird, because it tends to be really bad when Jamie Hewlett is not involved, but I guess that usually means Alan Martin is not involved, at least until recently. But I suppose I only read the first batch of the new ones Ashley Wood and Refus Dayglo illustrated and they were fun enough if not retreading the same ground but way less strange and trippy.
  21. Jerkiest Main Characters in Video Games

I refuse to understand what you are saying.
  22. Fargo (TV series)

The first two episodes of Fargo were engaging enough, but it's overall more violent and nasty than the movie. It's also missing the great humor and banter that made the movie so special. That dialogue spoken seems so cheap in comparison. I'm curious how involved in this the Coens will be. I see Joel Coen is an executive producer, for whatever that's worth.
  23. Dual audio in Games (The Weaboo's Lament)

    What on earth?
  24. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    You need to explain.
