Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze
syntheticgerbil replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah I wish the MGS5 thing was discussed way more. As a fan of the series, sort of like Chris was saying, it comes with the precedent where nothing was like that. I feel betrayed, however MGS4 had many problems with the B&B corp that left me disgusted, but not as much as hearing this news. I pretty much fear for the whole direction the series is going. First with replacing Big Boss with Kiefer and also with this futile push towards ultra realism instead of nice art direction as found in MGS3. We did actually discuss a lo of the rape stuff for a few pages on the THumbs forum, no shout out for us?! Also Daedalic is both a publisher and developer in Germany. Last thing, it's so weird to hear so much about Justin McElroy lately on the podcast. I pretty much have been listening to all of the crap he's on since the beginning of this year, after only being a regular listener of MBMBaM for the longest time. I actually found out late in the game that Griffin and Justin were games journalists. They never really mentioned it on that podcast much if at all. Being that I found Sawbones to be pretty brilliant, I went back before and found a podcast from Justin and Sydnee called Satellite Dish which was so so, but it had one of the most hilarious summaries of the psychotic Tyro Banks' novel model land. I don't know if it's more upsetting that that was possibly ghost written or not, because it all obviously originated from a strange summary she had of the worst kind of scifi. Anyway, I went back as far as 2008 for the Joystiq podcast and it's pretty boring and embarassing. I almost can't believe it's the same Justin McElroy. He is incredibly not funny, comes off as ignorant, jokes are obvious and not funny, calls people stupid for having a differing opinion, and just generally being obnoxious and having poor podcast etiquette where he just regularly leaves for 10 minute periods and constantly eats and chews throughout the episodes. Some reader mail brought up his rudeness and he was just all, "Deal with it! I'm hungry!" I guess there's hope for everyone after hearing that nonsense. Inspiring! -
What the hell is wrong with everyone and Rayman? When I was young the concept of no limbs was incredibly awesome. Grotesque? There's way worse characters you could pick for such a strong word.

Oh man, Mario All-stars is a great place to start! I never got a Super Nintendo as a child because my parents deemed it forever too expensive, but I got an NES free from an uncle with many games. He didn't want it anymore I guess. I had all three Mario games but hated that I could never save. For years I wanted All-stars so badly so that I could finally save and fully experience the games.

So Much Ireland (Help me plan my trip!)
syntheticgerbil replied to syntheticgerbil's topic in Idle Banter
This is all very good info Dibs. I don't know what Glen Cove is. I asked my friend again after google searching and finding nothing. She is not even sure now, so she probably has the wrong name. Sounds like we should definitely get all our places to stay sorted out (and paid for?) ahead of time. Also SuperBiased, that sounds good about the Game of Thrones picture. I don't know anything about the show except that it has a lot of fisting, thanks to Griffin repeatedly saying so on MBMBaM, so maybe I will make a gesture based on that. -

Thanks for all the recommendations! Probably can't go camping because it requires extra gear and we are limited on what we can bring. We will kind of have to sift over a lot of these for the next couple of months. Seems like Ring of Kerry is a must so far. Awaiting the rest of your recommendations. Are you saying to joining a tour bus for the whole trip or just for around the Ring of Kerry? Because those gas prices are fucking insane. I thought paying $3.50 for a gallon was high. Hopefully the car we rent is fuel economical. I imagine it will be way tinier than what we are used to going by that road you displayed. Sounds like we should map out everything in advance so we don't wander. Probably need to figure out our GPS situation too. Not sure if we should buy one here or rent one there with the dealership. We used to have one but I think our old awful duplex neighbors stole it when my wife left her car unlocked. What I've read about the history of Ireland already gives me a headache. It is literally thousands and thousands of years of fighting. This flash game just gave me more of a headache. -
Hey now, that wasn't objective at all.

Not really foodies, we tend to eat bad when we are out of groceries, but we like going out to eat at little diners every now and then. More sightseers I suppose. Natural stuff especially! -
I really hate that there are three heads for Battleblock Theater introduced in the summer sale that are almost impossible to get unless I plan on spending a bunch of money and crafting badges. So obnoxious. 360 users of the game just got them for free the normal method of logging in on a certain week and playing user created levels. One of the heads goes for $20 in the marketplace, which is less than what I'd pay by wasting my money buying cards. I don't think I've ever disliked Steam more than I do right now.

I think her final defense on that day was that she was super drunk. Otherwise she makes well written articles. EDIT: Read the rest of the thread, I guess I only listened to 2010, didn't know that was a repeat drunk time.

What would be the male Wii Fit trainer's name? Does that mean their names are identical? Is he in the new Smash Bros.?

I'm so glad Nintendo finally tuned into the section of its audience that drives a Mercedes but also loves a game of Mario Kart.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

That analogy doesn't work. A soccer ball is not a creative piece of media for someone to consume, it is a thing that has already been bought and paid for and will be bought many times over for the sake of the game. And also a soccer ball manufacturer does ultimately get paid ahead of time whether the game is any good or not. Should anyone on TV see the logo on the soccer ball, they also get the "free" advertising all these Let's Players claim they give. Sounds to me like the Let's Players gave you some free games though, considering you didn't actually have to purchase or play any of those. -
Idle Thumbs 159: Wilson's Ghoulish Countenance

This ending is my favorite ending to a podcast ever. So bizarre and good. I really wish I knew what Remo's facial expression looked like through all those horrible canned sound effects. My only experience with Wisdom Tree was that NES game with different stories, Bible Adventures. As a youngster, I borrowed it from a friend for whatever reason and proceeded to beat it at least three times through, just because it was a game on NES I could actually beat. -
You're never going to finish this game.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
syntheticgerbil replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Oh for sure. I get the feeling more often than not it's just people playing a game everyone already knows and reacting over it, splitting it in to 30 videos each with an ad at the beginning and end. But either way, there's no way to tangibly measure how these contribute to the sales of the actual game but you can measure exactly how much someone is making in ad revenue off said game. Yes, I forgot about this. I really feel like this should be taken in to account and maybe muddies up exactly what money should (if it should) funnel back to the developers. Like, Jontron on Game Grumps is just a lot of talking over the span of hundreds of videos where probably tons of ad revenue was generated. However Jontron on his own channel is very much his own creation and something people come to watch for his antics and not any particular game. I don't really know where I'm going with this, just taking note, I suppose. -
I refuse to believe those are olives. I think the egg in the middle reproduced and created little hellspawn eggs.

Are there eggs with black yolks on that pizza?

1,000 times yes. It's not like those who feel this way don't have a legitimate point when meanwhile people who just play games and record themselves doing so are making way more money per year than the people who actually work on them. I don't see how that is at all fair. When considering that, all of this defense that a plethora of Let's Plays are free advertisement for developers and developers should be grateful doesn't sound so solid when not one chunk of that goes to the creators. Pewdiepie making four million a year. Fucking hell. -
That really sucks. What happened?

Must have this function! I feel like people make a lot of quality posts, but I can't show my appreciation by just replying "hahaha," because then I am flooding the forum. And so then they get crickets, because everyone is probably doing the same thing I am doing.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
syntheticgerbil replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
Hey does anyone have any recommendations for a good autoback program? Maybe one for a low cost or even free. What I want is not something to clone any of my hard drives, but to take certain folders from two drives and automatically back them up to a TB harddrive I have. I don't really want to have to tell it and I want it to do it maybe once a week. I also want it to delete files and reconfigure folders so that it always matches what's in the original folders at the time. -
Thank you guys for all of the congratulations, it was one of the best weekends I ever had. I just had a beer before going on, but it really didn't help. I was all nervous and sweaty and messed up a line or two, but it's all par for the course I suppose. Everything went well overall. Haha, yeah it was pretty nice. There was way too much seaweed so it wasn't really that great for swimming in at the moment, but otherwise weather was great! Haha maybe I should have opened it up to Idleforums members. Is this a comic book? I couldn't find any info in English but I would like to know what's going on here! Gimme! If not a comic, is that your art on the cover?

God I love your artwork.
