  1. Help me forget about Olly Moss and move on with my life

Tell me those creepy old people in the top left corner are mannequins!
  2. The Fanart Collective

You know what? Fuck that guy for drawing way too well!
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

Come here, I've got a secretion to tell you.
  4. Holy shit, what happened to him? How did he become worse as an artist?
  5. Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer

Oh man that is a great Simpsons episode. Season 4 is amazing (although I enjoy 3 more)!
  6. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Looks like he sometimes does in special cases.
  7. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Gah, no Gold or Platinum this year and I had over 600 coins expire last month. I am guessing all of those rewards are download only anyway and they don't send you a physical disc? If that's the case, I'm not missing out. I'd rather have them put something new in the damn store instead of rotating the small amount of virtual console games every month that you most likely already own anyway. Besides buying that Pikmin totebag for my wife, I haven't used my coins in over two years. How about some substantial physical goods? I remember when you used to be able to buy the Game and Watch Collection and Tingle's Balloon Fight in Japan, but nothing anymore. I guess it's just complaining about a service that doesn't actually have to exist, but I fill out all of those tedious surveys damn it!
  8. Feminism

Yeah, that's what really annoyed me most about his post where he actually felt he had a libel case, besides the fact that he felt it was appropriate to just preemptively throw out there. Big man. Too much time has passed to really disprove either side, so how could he get the victim's claim thrown out as simply libel? It's her word against his. However that's sort of the reason I don't want to get into thinking about this much. I'm also not the biggest fan of Cards Against Humanity anyway, so if this ruins the game for everyone, no big loss. It's a drinking game anyway and I find it just as effective as Apples to Apples in that the hilarity is pretty hit and miss unless you are super super drunk. Last time I played Cards, I wanted to leave the game and do something else, because I had heard and read every card so many times that I just find it boring at this point.

I might like it more when I end up buying the Criterion disc, if maybe Del Toro has gone through and edited it some. Perlman is always amusing, he's the highlight of the film. I think what kills it for me is both drab art direction and the performances fall flat for me. It also feels much to slow. I think I already blabbed about Mimic in another thread but the new version is so good. I did enjoy it on some level before on the old DVD I had, but even with the early cheap looking CG effects, I found the movie pretty gripping the second time around with the director's cut. Also Dona Lupe, his first short film, is so laughably bad, I couldn't tell it was directed by him in any manner. I saw it on a Cinema 16 DVD and it came with commentary by Del Toro himself. When I turned on the track, he just hilariously trashed his short film, pointed over every mistake, went on about how bad the story was, and then apologized for everything. I love him so much.
  10. Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

I think at this point the Rabbids series can be considered dead and not profitable. It's gone full circle back to Rayman being a more viable character like before the introduction of the Rabbids. Maybe this is one of those things where Ancel requests something and Ubisoft corporate has to bow down to him? If the rumors are true, they really don't want to lose the guy and he constantly seems extremely frustrated with his projects there. Maybe he's got naked pictures of Yves Guillemot or something.
  11. Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer

It's cool, I'm not very exciting. And I have a thing for people who type in all caps sometimes. I should also note that those particular movies I named as boring all have well crafted narratives for the most part and might be better as a novel for me. Also, is really worth 7 hours of viewing or are you pulling my leg?
  12. Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer

I guess I am just one of those ADHD brats people complain about on imdb that need things to be paced much faster than the usual movie. I feel like a film maker has to earn slow moving and drawn out parts with me by putting more dynamic scenes between to create those hills and valleys. One of my favorite movies in terms of pacing is The Princess and the Warrior because the ebbs and flows are so expertly crafted and spaced that there is not one scene in the movie that does not feel essential and beautiful. However most of Tom Tykwer's other films besides Run Lola Run are either very slow or very poorly paced, which is a shame. Although things like most Pixar films and comedy movies that have the actors on the cover cut out over white backgrounds also bore the shit out of me despite being paced very quickly. Cookie cutter movies are just as exhausting.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

Wow, I've never even heard of that company, but I will avoid if possible if I am ever in a location where they are one of the choices. Where are you located where that is your most viable option? Usually it's a fight between either AT&T and Comcast/Time Warner in most cities.
  14. Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer

Haha, it's funny, when there's someone who hasn't seen something I think most people have seen, I usually express some shock but then play it down because I don't want to hype anything and it might be terrible for the person. One of my good friends hasn't seen anything Monty Python related and she has probably heard a million quotes at this point. I figure it most likely suck for her to watch so my recommendation was that Python is maybe good for a rainy day. I don't know what it is, but going in to something that has been hyped as great really doesn't work out half the time as me. Either it's a case of my tastes having a very hard time matching up with the general public (I've noticed most things I like have very mixed reviews) or credits or it tends to be "boring" things that are revered. I saw Casablanca and I was fucking bored. I saw Citizen Kane and I was fucking bored. Taxi Driver, so god damn bored. Recently I tried Unforgiven, which is supposed to be this amazing and different cowboy store and so so bored. When I got around to seeing The Godfathers, I quit somewhere in the second one because that is some boring shit. Why do people love such boring films?
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

Holy shit, yeah I went ahead and bought my modem outright when dealing with them because I was worried about charges like that. Plus their rental fees for a year cost way more than just buying one myself either second hand or new.
  16. I Had A Random Thought...

So what I don't understand is why people have such a hard time disconnecting? You just have to be assertive and play hard ball. If they can't hit the deal of the competitor then you tell them no, if they fuck around too much escalate it. I don't get it, every communications company does this. It has not changed since I moved out of my parents house and dealt with this a decade ago. In fact, I love making these phone calls to these big phone companies and hearing the rep flounder at whatever new deal I found. My conversation for switching from AT&T had to do with what politics they were into and who they were funding, plus I told them it was okay to switch since they didn't buy out T-Mobile. The rep had no answer. I'm sure I will have to deal with this soon because Comcast purchased Time Warner, which I have been using since my latest move here in Austin, TX. Their service is so inconsistent and the Google Fiber man installed a line in our backyard a couple of months ago so our area is good to go. I think late this fall we can start buying. This is good for two reasons, one being that Comcast has data caps in many cities and Google Fiber prevents that complete shit from ever happening in Austin. They still guage my usage for no reason and my wife and I do about a terrabyte a month, and I hear the usual cap is 300 gb. I also bet they throttle my connection but no idea how to get proof, but the service seems to die a lot even though I'm paying for "turbo." It's pretty shitty. I used to have Clear before and while not extremely fast, I had a good deal and it was nice in the area I lived in until I moved and it wasn't near a tower. Sprint bought them out and cancelled all Clear internet I guess so they could take over whatever towers themselves, eliminating more competition. The other reason Google fiber is good is that it is making everyone step up their game. Suddenly after the Google Fiber man came by, U-verse decided to finally provide for my area and I hear Verizon is trying to expand FIOS too. The only thing is, I'm not paying $70 a month for a god damn gigabyte from Google. Maybe if I could get a half gig up and down for $35, I'd be down for sure, but I don't think it works like that. But the other companies don't know that and if I have to switch service again because of the Comcast buy out or just that I can renegotiate a deal with one of the other awful companies, I can probably drive down my monthly price extremely low in comparison to Google Fiber. I know my yearly "special introductory deal" of $55 a month for 25 mbps will discontinue soon and I hope Google Fiber helps me threaten enough to either keep that rate or achieve a lower one, even though the service is shit. Among my ordeals with them, the most hilarious thing that happened with Time Warner is about two months after I got it they tried to sell me turbo internet for $20 more a month. I had to look up what my account said I had while talking to the rep who called me and then I told them, "wait a minute, I already have this service and you are trying to make me pay more for it?" The rep seemed embarrassed and abruptly ended the call by saying something like, "Oh thank you, bye." Ugh. Also to hear some reps flounder, here's some great listening: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/253/the-middle-of-nowhere The bill on the last act on this episode and the way sprint deals with it is terrifying but it's nice to see the consumer wield psuch ower and make them eat humble pie. This call is funny just because basic math escapes these people, including all managers. It gets a bit painful. The dude was totally trying to pull a fast one though, so he brought this on himself.

No Mimic is great OH FUCK HOW THE HELL DOES ANYONE LIKE CRONOS?! I'LL NEVER GET IT!
  18. Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer

I often have hard times distinguishing people in group commentaries and podcasts, but I really can't believe you guys get people on Idlethumbs mixed up. I can't think of any arrangement where it was hard to distinguish anyone outside of the Conf grenades and such. I'm even more weirded out that you guys can't tell Jake and Sean apart, since they speak so differently. I bet the Tone Control episode sounds hilarious. Maybe this helps? On the topic of cyber punk, I am not sure those words have ever been uttered in that manner before.
  19. Help me forget about Olly Moss and move on with my life

    That's incest in law.
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

It makes me want to make a con for something just as generic, like people who own land lines.
  21. Dreams!

Hasn't he been through enough for you to not have troubling dreams about him?! Actually, I hate dreams like that. One time in high school, I dreamed a history teacher I really respect was sitting at his desk with his penis out and rubbing it while nodding at the students in class. Like... that never happened but after that the guy sort of grossed me out. I gross me out.
  22. The Last Guardian

Delicatessen is a great movie but I really didn't want to comment on that.
  23. Life

I heard drinking gallons of warm milk helps.

  25. Life

I should probably follow up on this and say I have talked to her more than a few times about all of this before hand and more than anything she's excited for me to go back to school and isn't so worried because her job is going very well and has been for a few years, so she is aware of my insecurities. It's just on the worst days of it, I'm tired of being a financial burden to people, I've been in this situation for a bit too long and even if it's only been a little over a year, I guess I'm just projecting like mad and it's not fair to anyone else. Oh yeah, why is green hair at Starbucks a big thing? I Feel like every coffee shop has some manner of counterculture going on with the servers.
