Haha, SAM, soap operas are a great way of putting it. I will steal that! Yeah that's sort of what I was wondering, does the new generation of kids growing up even care anymore? My wife has a sister who is 12 years younger than her and as she was growing up she would find a lot of comics at the library that had nothing to do with superheroes, but mostly she just reads webcomics because there's much more variety out there in that world.

But I mean we are already sometimes seeing that just a plain disc release will sometimes be called a "special edition" just for existing. At least this is what I notice for PC games that tend to only get released on disc in the U.K. But it's still physical media and that's sort of a better deal because you will usually get the stuff with extras in it because it no longer becomes a premium package you pay for but instead an incentive to buy. Still a win win, and there's always going to be a market.

Besides that the whole concept of super heroes in general annoys the shit out of me, I'll never understand people's obsession with the franchise of a particular character. As an aside, do kids even care about men and women in tights with bad dialogue fighting generic crime anymore? Is it just adults who never grew out of that obsession? It's like the equivalent of being a follower of Taco Bell. It's just a vehicle to keep money flowing, it's not the personal work of anyone in particular as there are no constant creators for super heroes that have carried over for half a century or more. Sure some things can come out of competant creators, but in the end the work is always lesser than an original piece a creator came up with as it's just paid fan fiction. So when people get mad over whatever new incarnation or depiction of a character not following whatever they think the character is, I always wonder what decade or writer or artist they are even clinging to if they are even clinging to anything at all, as I assume most comic readers don't give a shit about creators much like most people who see movies decide based on the actors. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in books most writers of franchises they created stay within the ownership of the writer and don't revert to some major corporation right? Doesn't J.K. Rowling owns the Harry Potter universe, so ultimately any depiction of her creation still refers to her? One thing though about movies is a lot are marketed based on the director, so there must be a more mass audience who goes by the creators in the movies space rather than just film buffs, so that is good, but comics are so taken over with just one bad concept of people in tights that there is no room to breathe for almost anything not a franchise. It'll just never make sense to me why people keep encouraging such a bad marketplace.

The only thing that sucks is only the "best" comes out on physical media, especially in terms of movies and shows. The DVD days of releasing every fucking thing ever are over.

I became pretty fucking bored with half of the episodes in the last season. The dialogue in the show was never exactly it's strongest point and to watch episodes where people just talk for forty minutes without any comic relief or banter is just dull. All it became was just threats and Walt explaining things.

I need to get to Spy Fox at some point. I played a bunch of Humongous games a few years ago just to see Ron Gilbert's and Dave Grossman's design work previously, but I still haven't beaten any Putt Putt games (besides the early ones I had as a kid). Pajama Sam was just awesome and Pamela Adlon is such a great voice actor. Freddi Fish is no pushover either.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
syntheticgerbil replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I'm sorry to put it this way, but I think that's just dumb. I am one who makes it a point to try to get boxed releases and I avoid Steam like the plague. I generally don't like having to have some internet connection or rely on a client to play something. That said, I do have many PSN and XBLA games, but the way I see it is if you give those consoles enough years to become obsolete, it will go the way of Wii Homebrew or compilation Dreamcast CD-Rs with all DLC ever and complete with VMU, where someone has taken a backup of all digital releases. Also I tend to import games a lot of games for the sake of a boxed release since there will always be other countries where the market is pointed towards or hard copies, although I'm not quite sure why. -
Idle Thumbs 168: I Like the Hair
syntheticgerbil replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah that's exactly what I wanted to clarify, and it's really cool that was your intent just because it's so different that the usual. I think your explanation of the back story in Tone Control really helps me understand your intent and where it was coming from personally so the crime of passion ultimately ends up not being the biggest deal, especially since the world turns pretty savage shortly after. -
Idle Thumbs 168: I Like the Hair

Ah so more like Lee didn't need redemption midway or sooner through the game since he had already achieved it rather than him not needing to be redeemed from the beginning of Episode 1? Hey, talk more about Walking Dead on the podcast! -
Well the fact that the animation styles and drawings of the characters don't clash in that shitty crossover should be evidence enough on how terrible the animation has become on the Simpsons over the past 15 years.

Check around for your back up seassion restore profile. Should be a .js file. This link sort of explains it: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/972987 I personally love Firefox though, there's so many great add-ons that give me so much control over the internet.

Wow, I only sell an average about 20-30 things a year and I don't seem to have that restriction. It's been a few months though since I sold something last. Does it have anything to do with when you opened your account or how many positive feedback ratings you have? I don't think I've broken 200 and I've been selling since 2008. I can't imagine that it protects against seller fraud more than the claim process before.

I don't know, I sell everything on eBay if I am looking to get a good chunk of money. Just more work because you have to ship it and figure out all that eBay selling entails.

Idle Thumbs 168: I Like the Hair
syntheticgerbil replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
So uh, does this mean Lee really didn't need to redeem himself from murder to become a decent human being again? Given the circumstances, I sort of agree since it was a crime of passion and all, but it's sort of shocking to hear it stated. -

Fuck. Teachers who don't know how to pronounce "Sean" are the fucking worst. I used to think it was me for having a bad name, but then I realized as a person I am supposed to know how to pronounce many "foreign" names that to do not sound like they are spelled, yet teachers or people in service jobs who come across many people all day and yet still don't know how to pronounce a common name drives me up the fucking wall. Don't even start by saying it's spelled wrong. God damn. -
Man, I think they need to just hand you cash for your dedication.

Help me forget about Olly Moss and move on with my life
syntheticgerbil replied to melmer's topic in Idle Banter
Yeah I think you hit the nail on the head. There's a kind of personal feeling to it that sometimes will flop between creating loneliness that you don't actually know these people and goodness that you have people you relate to to listen to all the time when you are alone. I sometimes wonder what would happen if I bumped in to Griffin McElroy around here in Austin, but I don't know if I would really get along with the guy as hilarious as I find him. I feel like it's going to happen at some point here, especially since he has purchased a house. I SHOULDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT I COULD PROBABLY GO LOOK UP HIS HOME ADDRESS IF I FELT LIKE IT RIGHT NOW. -
You should get Olly over for a game.

So Much Ireland (Help me plan my trip!)

While that looks awesome, I don't know if we can fit in the drive there in our current itenary. Also, what's good to eat? It doesn't have to be amazing but what's the usual food without me stopping at Subway, which you mentioned earlier. All Subways smell like bathrooms. -
Some joker took my keys. I don't like that. Er... hopefully it wasn't the most expensive phone?

Nah it's always been a valid complaint. They backtracked a little bit too much to make a new interpretation of the character and a lot of the humor of the series. MI3 is a very different game in my opinion in terms of tone and characterization. Then EMI came around and made the wuss Guybrush worse and played Elaine for the same kind of cardboard cutout, just the opposite type. I guess Tales tries to connect it all together again to make everyone happy, but it sucks that that sort of baggage comes with it.

I think I want to add J Allard too. I'm going for it! -
Well I think once you get past that part, it should pick up pretty well, besides when Elaine starts saying "darned" and "heck" instead of "damned" and "hell" sometimes. I guess they couldn't figure out their ESRB rating for a second there and didn't bother to fucking fix it.
