Man I generally try to read Jenn Frank articles and enjoy her writing. I do hope she comes back at a later date after this stuff changes for the better, which I know it will. I don't know of Mattie but I hope she comes back as well.

I guess it's hard for me to know where everyone is coming from because I can't tell if it's always about this stupid commotion about this supposed conspiracy in game journalism, which I don't buy, or the cronyism and nepotism within hires at video game studios, which I 100% buy and have an issue with. But I think there's a lot of benefits for internal promotions even if you don't know everything you need. It shows confidence that they know you and are comfortable with you and know you will do a good job. Although I hope your dad doesn't own the company.

I don't know why you guys keep making fun of that stuff, I've experienced nepotism/cronyism in a few cases in life, not just video game careers. I suppose it has to do with the journalism stuff, but I don't want to get involved in the threads to argue against the personal experience of others.

I don't think internal hires generally count as cronyism. I would think it would be something like an external hire taking the position who is friends with someone involved in the hiring process. Congratulations, and they are paying you for classes!

That's the thing, we always hear about this stuff over and over again. Nothing really makes an impact no matter what bad news we hear. Just some people cry foul on Facebook or the comments section and a few other developers take great pride in their 90 hour work weeks because they are so filled with imagination, passion, and creativity they must show it off. Gamers buy the games, don't give a shit, cycle continues. I feel like the only way something like that situation would turn around is if everyone had the gall to just get together, say fuck the stupid Crytek game and just not go to work until pay AND working conditions change. It's a fucking multimillion dollar company, they almost all are it seems. It's like paying people is the last on some of these scumlord owner's minds. But no, game developer Stockholm Syndrome is apparently more important. I think most of this took place here in Austin as well. I suppose the attitude at most game developer get togethers are a bunch of meek and desperate people, but Christ, if your paycheck doesn't arrive in two weeks, tell your boss you aren't going to work. If you get fired, file for unemployment. Of course they were all probably paid contract and going to an office, using work computers, and basically acting like full time workers, just without the benefits so they could easily be let go later and never collect unemployment. Whenever I hear bullshit about working in games, I just hear Remo in my head saying, "Videeeeoooooo gaaaaaames!" Makes me feel better.

Yeah, I feel the same way. The second video seemed to insinuate that they were going back to smooth out all of the collision and possibly make it more forgiving? Maybe Manny could not almost completely turn around when you run into a wall as well. Maybe do that stupid looking thing all games do now where the character suddenly starts walking slow when you hit a boundary. All direct control Telltale games seem to do this.
