  1. Idle Thumbs 175: It's an Itchio

My dad still does this thing where when the family goes out to the restaurant and the hostess asks how many, he'll hold up his fingers to show like 7 people and say "four." Then there's usually just a bunch of genuine confusion with the hostess not knowing what to write (or possibly how to count fingers) and no one laughs except him. I don't like this joke, it's not particularly clever and it serves as more of a vehicle for my sister and I to bond with a look that says, "God damn it, Dad."
  2. Shaving My Thumbs

What brand do you use, SAM? I couldn't really find the free samples. Is it offered to you when choosing one of the subscriptions? And you guys can discuss trimming your ballanuses now, because now I have more than enough info and options it seems. I won't be shaving my ballanus however.
  3. Returned Vita :)

Yeah it's just a hunk of electronics, but this was a very heartwarming thread.
  4. Life

Yes Twig! Now you will make it rain!
  5. Shaving My Thumbs

I actually can't even grow a good beard, I have like three bald spots that are half an inch or less that just throw the whole thing off if I were to decide to go full facial bee man beard. Kind of like Robin Williams in The Fisher King, although he's way hairer. Also it's easier to see the bald spots if you watch the movie because I can't find a good screenshot with nice resolution. I'm also not allowed to have a premeditated mustache because then it apparently hurts to kiss me.
  6. The Idle Thumbs Store

Ahhhhh. Can you guys do a button up bowler shirt? I would wear it every other day.
  7. Shaving My Thumbs

I don't know I just started one day in my late teens when I had no shaving cream and could not buy any, didn't see any issue and just went with it since. Maybe my skin is super oily garbage so it doesn't matter. Usually two to three times a week. But I do sometimes rotate a little bit with what the facial hair looks like, so sometimes there's a large amount cut off at once. If I have a job interview or something where I have to look sort of nice, I cut my sideburns very short. That might make a lot of sense if you are getting a half a god damn year. Is that mainly what shaving cream is for? To reduce irritation? Redness seems to go away after a few hours. I should also note that I don't go in dry shaving, I rinse my face with warm water first and also run the razor under warm water as well. I think Jon Cole may have sold me on that electric razor, I have it on my Amazon wishlist and I suppose I will have to watch for price drops. Although maybe inform me if it doesn't work out so great in the next year or so. Jon Cole, sell me this pen.

    Please make!
  9. Cartoons!

Yuasa did the character designs, he didn't write or direct the episode.

    Hi Rodi!
  11. Life

As a sub, do you have to reapply everywhere every time a school year starts? What happened with the thing where you were locked out of assignments?
  12. The Idle Thumbs Store

I feel like I need to buy a shirt now just because of that amazing and in depth post that should have been really boring but was super engaging from one sentence to the next. How even is this? But I still look terrible in T-Shirts. All of the Kickstarter shirt rewards I have gotten just go to my wife.
  13. HAH! Joke's on them when they realize how fucking worthless that laptop will be when the signatures wash off in the rain.
  14. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Yeh, but I don't think they really tested it long term to realize by doing that they wore out the pins very quickly. I suppose they realized by the time they finally released the top loader, but those models don't have A/V out, making them useless to me. Sort of like how extremely cute the SNES 2 is but it is no longer capable of S-Video.
  15. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I was watching the Teens React to NES video and was thinking about what an obnoxious piece of hardware the original NES was because of the push down mechanism. Almost every NES you require now unless it's a top down one either is faulty because the connectors are worn or pushed back or the pin connector was replaced with a cheapo one that didn't last too long. I tried fixing one for my friends recently because theirs was dirty and the pins were pushed back but I had a hell of a time pulling them back out with a dental pick and then it didn't work so well when I screwed it all back together. Also I tried breaking off the little foot of the region lockout as well. So getting to the point, my NES that I had as a kid was plagued with the screen flashing and games not loading. My dad fixed it by disabling the console's ability to push the cartridge down and instead made it so you just insert the cart and play. I don't know what he did for sure as it seems like the OEM NES connector would not work this way without the pressure, so he must have tightened it or something. Did anyone else's dad do this to fix their stuff? I somehow recall this may have been a fix many commonly used, but now I think he just did this to NESs of other kids in the neighborhood and messed up my perception.
  16. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

You have the non plastic, non shitty Season 6 box. Gimme. Also why isn't Iron Giant on blu-ray yet?
  17. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I guess this is not in the U.S.? I was thinking I'd get a toy for my dog (Don't worry she loves plushes and will never destroy them), but I still see the same few gifts left. Guess I will probably be having another mass amount of coins expiring next year.
  18. Recently completed video games

Well haha, I was going to mention it, but I just chalk that part up to the food chain. Like in Bambi... I think. But it The Maw ends with a hug and a wave goodbye, you know... My favorite suicide bombers in games are the ones from Oddworld Stranger's Wrath. They are so fucking scary but are yelling dumb shit like, "Boom baby!"
  19. Pathologic - Remaking the best game you never played

So does the title of that movie happen in the movie?
  20. Tune in every night for the meat and pickled pickle game!
  21. I figure it's fine they look cartoony. Why is cartoon such a bad word? If anything it shouldn't seem odd because it sort of fits the traditional cel cartoon set up of low detail characters over higher detailed painted backgrounds. I feel like decades of putting too much detail in 3D characters just because we can kind of trains the audience towards this. I actually get a sort of Brutal Legend feel from the way they contrast in comparison to the background.

I'd pretty much say the only tasteful Twisted Pixel game there is is The Maw. Splosion Man is a bit sparse, but there's a lot of mean spiritedness and gruesome ideas that exponentially carres over all the way to Gunstringer. I haven't play Lococycle so I can't say how extreme it gets in comparison to some of the less savory parts of Gunstringer. Although that this tone is a surprise to anyone kind of says to me that they finished The Maw and maybe three levels of Splosion Man and that's about it.
  23. Those fucking meaty arms are perfect. You guys are crazy. For once I want to see a game get some significant meaty arm representation and here is all this push to change them. No not muscley, meaty as in this is a big dad's arms. Meats meats meats.
  24. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

Yes exactly, like Lady Bouvier's Lover where Grandpa Simpson plays out the story of The Graduate. It works on the spoofing/parody level but it becomes a sweet little story arc within the Simpsons universe itself rather than anything cheap.
  25. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

I wrote a ton of stuff years ago almost season by season up until five or six in the TV/Movie thread, but it might be pretty terrible so I don't know if it's worthwhile to go back. But basically a lot is on the premise that the show was better when it had more heart and was less wacky and Homer was less stupid or a jerk. The animation was very good in many cases, it became very static and stale but it took a while after the release of Klasky Csupo and moving all animation work to Korea. It's a shame that ever had to happen, I heard a hundred animators lost their jobs. The digital junk they have now looks super stale and gross like Family Guy. I have a hard time figuring out when I dropped off though as a kid, but it just became a show that was constantly trying to be wacky and even though a young kid like me back then should have loved that stuff and would have said that was better, I think the emotional hook was still important even though. I own up to Season 9 on DVD and have recently started 8. The reason I think I will not watch any more after is because after Season 9, Brad Bird stopped being involved. He has a great couple of guides out there on good layouts, camera angles, and poses to use for the Simpsons to keep the show fresh and visually dynamic. It seems that was all thrown away for the sake of reuse, since camera angles mean redrawing.
