  1. Wizaaaaaards!!

No not at all, they look like this: They are colorful like the previous NASA style ones but they are seven characters now so this person must have had this car for a while now. Looks like they bought this specialty plate to compensate for the lack of the availability of the letter 'A.' That means there must be a plate that just says "WIZARD" in Texas! EDIT: Nevermind, it appears vanity plates in Texas are still usually six characters and that seven character ones only are available for a few weeks out of the year, since I guess they are still actively issuing the regular seven character ones right now, however that works.
  2. Disneyland/Disney World

Thank you! That must be it! I had to watch a stupid video with Regis Philbin because a lot of pictures were not ringing any bells since I guess I've been to so many aquariums in life. It looked really dumb and nothing like I remember. I guess it's sort of the same concept like those caged in rides, but I think I have only ever been on the Reboot one in Moody Gardens and hated it. I was fully convinced it was real ocean water we were going through on the hydrolaters so I suppose it was pretty effective. I guess I may have dreamed or misremembered the elevator going through actual water and ascending from the concrete outside. That's probably a safety hazard. Although I could really find any video or discernible pictures on the exit. It's made more complicated that the exit was changed when the ride became about Finding Nemo. So I still wonder if I dreamed. I also have this vague memory that my uncle met us outside but I would have to call my mom to confirm he met us there since the rest of the vacation was spent on beaches in Florida. Unfortunately I was four years old when I went so I don't retain much concept of the world back then.
  3. Disneyland/Disney World

Haha, I forgot all about Babar. Thanks Tegan. Does anyone remember some kind of glass elevator at Disney World where you rise up underwater and appear on a sidewalk on the surface? Was this just one of those childhood dreams I had where I conflated it with real life?
  4. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

I think Michigan report being a Suda 51 game is a misnomer. He was credited for planning and script editing only. It's more correct to just call it a Grasshopper game. He also tends to get credited for Contact even though he was only one of a few producers.
  5. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, that's true. God damn it Metal Gear.
  6. Disneyland/Disney World

I remember crying on the Dumbo ride and seeing Captain EO. I really didn't want to watch Captain EO. I also accidentally broke the 3D glasses in half for some god damn reason and my mom had to give me hers.

Yeah speaking of, the Steam Community forums for Brutal Legend has a super long thread reporting all of the bugs in the port plus the prominent amount of graphical glitches that the console versions did not have. I bought the game on Steam because it was supposed to originally have "enhancements" which I read as higher res textures and possibly nicer lighting to go with the resolution bump, but it's instead pretty inferior. I waited for a patch until earlier this year when I realized that said patch was never coming, so I uninstalled it. It's a shame the game was released with very little support and so glitchy. I already finished it on PS3 with all trophies and was sort of wanting to play through it again on PC, but I will stick with the console version.
  8. Spacebase!

Yeah, I apologized earlier for my stupidity. I didn't read the original quote right and brain fart. Sorry.
  9. Spacebase!

Yeah, I feel for him. I will probably have to get the fuck out of here after I finish my second degree at ACC (which is actually still remarkably cheap here). But I don't know where I'd go. Plus moving is an expensive and awful ordeal unless you are a young man who only owns a laptop, an air mattress, and possibly a small dresser. But Dallas and Houston are not expensive and are pretty easy to get around if you have a car (at least for Houston) and live a little bit outside the inner loop. Also both cities are trying hard to get more feasible public transportation going and are very different from a decade ago. I would imagine many of the cities named on this list have similar amenities, urban areas, and sites to see compared to most cities out there: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erincarlyle/2014/03/11/americas-most-affordable-cities/ Also Oddworld Inhabitants used to be in San Luis Obispo for the sake of reducing overhead and having a less crowded area to get around. While Lorne Lanning said it made it hard to convince talent to move there, he sure was able to get some of the best and they did manage to make it work for four games over the course of a decade. Not too shabby. Personally I'd love for many companies to get the fuck out of the Bay Area and go somewhere else because it seems pretty ridiculous for them all to be concentrated in one tiny spot considering how big the rest of the U.S. and how many other cities there are. Seems like both employees and investors could stand to benefit financially by getting out of there. When you are a media company who makes profit based on a worldly scale and not locally why stay in an expensive area? Surely there are solutions for things like local networking for the sake of investors.

Nah man, Pixar is the best cartoon studio in the world, just check this out: http://pando.com/2014/07/07/revealed-court-docs-show-role-of-pixar-and-dreamworks-animation-in-silicon-valley-wage-fixing-cartel/ They get paid less and fix the wages a little bit too low with other big Hollywood studios because it's important to stay humble. Wouldn't want those animators raking any of those sweet millions unless it's John Lasseter himself, that's silly. Well Austin was pretty cheap when I moved here in 2009. The cost of living was something like 95% of Houston on average (where I'm from). I recently read now it's like 150%. In general Texas contains some of the biggest U.S. cities with the lowest cost of living. Austin is just not sustainable because it's roads are all fucked and undeveloped, there is no feasible public transportation, and there's all these greenbelts and environmentally protected areas in the way of developing any of the above plus housing. I imagine the only way to sustain it is to start bulldozing greenbelts and sections of housing, but the old guard Austin hippies will never allow that. Like it is an actual thing that city council has voted against expanding infrastructure for decades because if you don't build it they won't come, apparently. There's all of this talk constantly about Californians ruining the city but really hardly anyone in this city is from here and it's even sort of rare that they are from another Texas city.
  11. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Honestly if that ends up the case, it is a more satisfying outcome than horrific stuff just happening for the sake of getting Big Boss mad and vengeful. But it will probably handled badly if so.
  12. In what way is Leisure Suit Larry, Rapelay, or Senran Kagura real? If you are talking about the depictions by the writers in terms of the attitudes concerning what they are writing and how it's on display in things like the latest video Anita has put out then of course that is real as it is the creative attitudes of real people. Far Cry 3 is written from a completely sexist perspective and Far Cry 4 is probably racist, I agree. But there are so many games where you are commiting acts of sexism like oggling the character in some kind of camera or theatre mode, manipulating women to sleep with you in the case of every Japanese dating sim or Leisure Suit Larry game ever, or clicking on and bouncing boobs and touching thighs in the case of games like Policenauts or Dragon's Crown. In those examples the game is putting that stuff at the forefront as a system or integral part of the game, not just using sexism as window dressing for an open world or an overwhelming attitude in the story. But then to go back to Far Cry 3, considering your final choice depends on you slitting the throat of your girlfriend to continue to tame the native woman by having sex with her, while there is a violent action involved, that overtly speaks of committing an act of gross sexism by just being completely abusive to women in multiple ways. And then what about FPSs that try to be war simulators? Still not real, but they are attempting realism. Is there not a visceral reaction there? If the problem is there are too many games that normalize sexism then you could easily rattle off the amount of games that normalize violence. As I said earlier many critically acclaimed games over the past two decades have you starring at a gun the whole time, yet we are supposed to see Deus Ex, Half Life, and Bioshock as these amazing depictions of story. Almost all of the major AAA games with heralded stories have you killing the shit out of a ton of people and we just accept it as is. Then you compare Grim Fandango and it sticks out in the adventure game space because it is one of the few adventure games where end of the story requires you to intentionally seek out and commit murder to win. I don't have all of the answers and in so many ways I agree with Gorgomongous and I actually sort of think maybe the studies on violence in video games not leading to violence are maybe not so accurate. If a game can teach you positivity and community like some studies have also shown, then why can't it teach negative behaviors as well? I just don't see how it's that simple to compartmentalize the deviant subject matter of choice at all.

The best is when a studio employees a bunch of people for years under indefinite 1099s for years using their computers, working in their offices, and using their software (stolen) just so they can get out of ever paying benefits. Texas is shiesty though.
  14. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

http://www.amazon.com/Costume-Quest-Invasion-Candy-Snatchers/dp/1620101904 This is coming but I think $20 is pretty fucking steep for 54 pages.
  15. Wizaaaaaards!!

Texas wizard sighting. I don't know why this exists.
  16. Spacebase!

Yeah, that was pretty stupid of me not to consider the overhead of employing said person like snacks, drinks, office space, computer, equipment, software, and on and on. Sorry, nevermind.
  17. Spacebase!

Fuck, I know this is partly because California is an insanely expensive place to live for anyone who did not already reside in California and that they deal in insanity money, but the fact that people are making $120,000 a year at Double Fine is fucking insane to me. I guess when you pay something like $1000 and up to have a room in a shared apartment in the Bay Area that's what you need if you maybe wanted to live in a house or duplex with your spouse and maybe an office?
  18. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    Yessir, my chicken phone.
  19. Idle Food - Cooking!

Repost to balance this page of the thread.
  20. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

From what I hear the last decade or so has been Kojima building up a posse of people who will never question a thing he says. So you have this strange eccentric who just kind of puts whatever in the game at his very whim, including what a pervert he is. I wish the gruesome content in Ground Zeroes would have caused more discussion but I think it was a combo of games journalists really dropping the ball and that a lot of people, including die hard Metal Gear Solid fans, didn't even play the game after reading about the commotion of how short it is. My guess is it's just going to be rolled into either the package or the game itself when Phantom Pain is released.
  21. Idle Food - Cooking!

I've done that with spoonfuls of peanut butter but not cheese. Either way, I can respect that.
  22. Life

Google image search brings up this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_electrodynamics I will not read it because my head will hurt.
  23. Feminism

I skipped through it a bunch. How many three point landings are there? They are a given for pointless fan pandering fight scenes. Unless you are holding something in one hand then fuuuuuuckkkkkk yoooouuuuuuu
  24. A Super Fun Quiz for everyone!

Neat, we made a 60! That's passing in college right? What is Burnin' Rubber? I can't find anything on it except for Flash games.
  25. I don't know of any, it was a dumb thing to say anyway. On the latter, I still think of both Elliot Rodger and Sandy Hook as major events where media was argued over, but I guess that's just me and not the reporters. I suppose I chalk it up to more of a problem with the news corporations.
