  1. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Was that Scooby Doo adventure game from the 90s any good? Never played it.
  2. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Ah okay I definitely missed that note if it's linked to the deer I didn't see. We were talking about in Slack that the Remo sung song wasn't in the game but it appears it is. I also took that the ropes above the backpack were the start of his device where no climbing was required. GUYS I JUST REALIZED BRIAN CAUSED HIS OWN DEATH BECAUSE HE STOLE ALL THE PITONS CAUSING THEM TO RUN OUT WHILE CLIMBING. BAD BRIAN.
  3. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

But if Brian had hid all the pitons what were they both using when he fell? The reason I mention the crack is because Henry discusses it with Delilah and then uses it.
  4. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Also sorry to keep repeating this, but thinking more about Brian's body still lying there over the years, I am still confused why it is left out if we start the game where presumably Ned never wants his boy's body to be found (even before we entertain the notion of wanting to be absolved of guilt). If he had stolen the key from a former lookout to keep people out, perhaps he could have just destroyed it? Even then before that look out started he could have buried Brian or just moved Brian somewhere else. My initial thoughts were maybe he could not get down to where Brian fell, but the carved part in the wall shows someone had rappelled down there before. And besides that Ned is a great climber, which is what led to Brian's death in the first place. Maybe Ned is just lazy then? Well the guy is doing a lot of involved and wacky shit over the course of the game he seems anything but lazy.
  5. The games that made you buy the system

I mean my rule is to usually have at least 2-3 games to buy a system, but generally it doesn't matter because more games come out eventually that I will want to play that are exclusive. So I can only really think of narrow margins: Virtual Boy for Wario Land, Teleroboxer, and Mario Clash PS Vita for Uncharted Golden Abyss and Rayman Legends (had some extra levels) I still feel a bit annoyed on the Vita purchase because I was hoping more games would come out because it's a nice little handheld, but instead it's been abandoned unless you love JRPGs and games with lots of boobies.
  6. Hmm, a few games have made me feel sick before, but I didn't experience it on this game the way I thought it would. I do know when I move camera around in games it really bothers my wife half the time, because if she doesn't know what I'm looking at or why it makes the game seem like a cinematic mess.
  7. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Yeah me too, it only seems like 3 letters were exchanged (4?) and I have this feeling there is more in the game I somehow missed. Yeah that's my thoughts, that the only way any of what he is doing makes sense is if his motivations suddenly changed, but the game really gives no indication of this (Like how you just posted his notes confirm he doesn't want you to find Brian and there is never any indication he does), which is why I wanted some other element to be revealed as part of the mystery instead of just Ned. Just seems like by Ned having clashing motivations it's only there for the sake of additional intrigue rather than to make sense. I also feel like the alarm was going to cause some trouble, maybe a knock to the head or something since it was rigged, but since it was not it just seems to be there to create tension. However it also creates an element that doesn't really make sense on a couple of levels, so maybe the alarm could have just been left out?

I think my disappointment stems from the same thing. I kept feeling like, "That's it? That can't be all" once I found out about Ned. Plus I still have a very hard time understanding why he led you to find out if nothing in his papers or recordings says he wanted to. It seems there wouldn't be a conflict in the first place if he had had just buried Brian. I've seen some people on the Reddit continuously explain he has PTSD so that's why he is inconsistent, but really I don't like that answer. But the Delilah/Henry "romance" (or friendship in what I was pushing) is the effective part of the narrative. Some people defend it by saying it's really just a story about two people so a lot of the details with the mystery aren't important, but I feel like it's both, and the thriller aspect was definitely the most engaging part about it, considering that's probably what motivates to finish the whole thing in one long sitting. I think the problem is I think about what would be a more satisfying answer to the mystery and I don't really know. Aliens probably would have been worse, but I wouldn't have completely been against some kind of government or rogue science involvement. It's strange but something more fantastical like that would have made more sense to me. Maybe that's too easy, I don't know. Sometimes I like easy answers. I do know I am bothered when the mystery seems inconsistent just for the sake of keeping the intrigue running. I guess I just want to like the game way more than I do, to simply call it one of the most amazing games ever.
  9. Yeah I'm definitely more a fan of that method. Sly Cooper you had to earn them through time trials and then you could play them at any time during the level, but considering you probably already practiced the level enough to finish time trials, it was kind of annoying to play the level once again to hear it. One thing I loved about MGS4 was that their commentary came in the form as part of downloadable podcasts. I'm sure they were available on the web but it was nice to just listen to making of stuff after finishing MGS4 the nth time for whatever unlockable. Made the time go by much faster. I almost think just making a running Firewatch podcast and putting it in game would be hilariously suitable.
  10. Pretty sure Valve didn't start game commentary, I know Sly Cooper 1 has commentary tracks and that predates Half Life 2, and there's probably more before even still. Ratchet and Clank Going Commando had a museum with audio commentary on making of stuff concerning items, models, and controls in the game. Not sure what you mean by stopped at Valve, as a larger amount of games seem to include more game commentary than ever before. Seems like patching in commentary is still expensive though. Life Is Strange released commentary as DLC recently but they are just video files. Maybe Firewatch could do similar the way the Telltale games that Sean and Jake worked on did commentary with compilation videos. I hope for a good list of all easter eggs as well as every optional event to be released by someone at some point.
  11. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

I already had the bad ending before I even started.
  12. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Are you serious? Argh I failed. I must have missed that. Maybe I was sneezing a lot and didn't see it. I meant the one in one of the supply caches.
  13. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

WHY IS HENRY SO BAD AT CARING FOR HIS TURTLES?! WHY CAN'T I KEEP THE RACCOONS IN A CARDBOARD BOX? Also Reddit says you can die in a fire at the end. Special ending sounds awesome. Can I also just say I was disappointed the hat you could wear was not the hat yellow hat Sean Vanaman lost years back. If it could exist again in polygons, it's almost like having that one last dance. Does this mean you can literally take this boombox with you through the entire game and never have this song stop playing? Can someone do a boombox run?
  14. "Cars sucks." - A Pixar Thread

In a similar vein I've heard a lot of people over the years act like The Lion King is some kind of amazing work of cinema because it follows the basic plot of Hamlet, therefore it's high art. By extension so is Home Improvement.
  15. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Did you not find the raccoon behind the Pork Pond sign?!
  16. Meow.

Odd, if I put clothes on either of my cats they go limp in defiance.
  17. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Odd, I checked some reddit threads a bit ago and it appears you can have two turtles, however they said it was northwest of Jonesy lake (I'm guessing on that small circular area where your path ends). Since you have said a third location, does this mean you can own three turtles at once? turtle power Also concerning the research area on Reddit, I found some vague info on two events I missed where the game may have clarified it some. Apparently there's some conversation you can trigger with Delilah at some point where she says she lost the info about the fenced in research area under a pile of papers. No idea where this would take place as it seems like if it took place before finding the research area and her wanting to burn it down, it wouldn't play out well. The second is you can use your tracker presumably after the first time to find an option deer with a collar up north to confirm they are part of the research project. I hope I get more hidden stuff like this in preparation for another playthrough. I'm also wondering how many obscure type easter eggs there are in the game, like taking the baseball all the way to the cave at the end and throwing it inside the guitar and somehow Henry starts singing the lyric song from the full soundtrack.
  18. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

I suppose that makes sense, but considering the backpack had a tracker, and I had assumed Ned didn't hear the alarm anyway since taping a tape up doesn't take a ton of time, then he still handed Henry the key. Also (including that moment) Ned had a lot of opportunity to collect all of the evidence Henry just foolishly laid out in his tower to ensure no trace would be found. I kept thinking it would be stolen, but that was never the case.
  19. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

I had this idea in my head on the second day that I was going to go to every supply cache before continuing the story, but you are pretty much locked out of all the places you shouldn't be besides where the turtle is at, which it seems only sits at the beginning area of the game. If you go and check you can also have a conversation with Delilah about the rocks falling and blocking off the area in which you entered. Henry does not appear to feed or water his turtle or treat it well though. It also needs a water tank since it's a turtle and not a tortoise. Very bad pet owner. Jordan said in chat that this is reflective of his character, I agree. I am pretty sure I missed other funny side things, so I'll wait to play it again until I have a good ol' "things to try" list. Otherwise, I found the cabin with the raccoon story and also a little alcove near the lake where you can see a raccoon on a stump and have a short conversation about it. I'm wondering if there were any secret supply caches or more notes to find by the other two guys who used to be lookouts. Also if you go back and check where the teenager camp ground was you can see that everything is gone which in turn plays into the items ending up in Ned's hideout.
  20. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Oh and best part of the game was hearing the raccoon story and then being able to reply, "So what was it the raccoons needed help with?"
  21. Better Call Saul

Haha that is good to know. I did crack up at what seemed like an error on Netflix the first time.
  22. Life

Woohoo! I don't think I ever asked this, but what subjects do you teach Miffy?
  23. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Yeah my take was she didn't leave because she had to talk to the other lookouts at all times from her headset, so in turn her bosses would have informed her about all of her employees' areas for the summer. Oh well, I guess I was really convinced there was something more than Ned and his dad, but now I'm really confused why he just left his son's body like that. Or he could have not left the keys in a backpack attached to an alarm and buried them somewhere if he was worried about Henry finding his son. If anything he was the one who led Henry there by creating this elaborate ruse in the first place. Maybe I'm supposed to take away that he really wanted to tell someone about his guilt then?
  24. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

I must have missed Ned's scribble. Was it in the four pages at the end? Hmmm... I guess my big thing with the research camp and the fence is that Delilah said it shouldn't be there and she had no notification of any kind that there was research taking place there. It would seem strange to me that Delilah wouldn't be informed if she were the boss, but I guess that's less strange than a man building a huge chain link fence and weird devices all by himself. EDIT: Also I just remembered, does anything happen if you take the other supply boxes? I was in the process of picking one up and was trying to throw it around but the game skipped to next day.
