Yeah I listen the second it comes out but I don't know what to say until it's all over. I tried to read up on Reddit a few weeks ago beginning around the "Adnan is a psychopath" thread appearing and I typed about it in the other thread. Funny I called it way before the articles started coming out. It makes me feel awesome. Not really. Anyway Reddit is impossible to follow, it's a fucking mess, just like Twitter, and people are just posting left and right without much to add. I suppose people looking up people can't be helped but meh, I can't imagine anyone would be closer to finding the answers than Sarah Koenig herself. Are people really that bored on Reddit? I'm pretty much just setting myself up to feel disappointment by the end of the show. My idea is if this ends with any kind of proof of Adnan's innocence, it would have been figured out weeks or months before the current episode, and you think people would be able to dig up that kind of info if any kind of appeal happens. However I do hope Serial continues with other stories after this case. That was the original idea right? I also wish This American Life would come out once a week, that's always fucking annoyed me. I'd totally subscribed like $40 a year or so to just have a new episode a week.

Oh hahaha, oops, I didn't read the notes, I assumed because it was on Youtube it was listed. Sorry, edited!

THERE IS NO VIDEO HERE! OOooooo! I'm getting tingles up my spine. Nostalgia waves! Looks like it's coming along pretty well, should be done sometime early next year.

Haha, I love it Twig.

Sonic Team is like the Obamacare of developers.

Sonic is like the Majora's Mask of video game mascots.

I can't believe you like the Advance series. I finished the first two 100% (quit early into the third, good lord it was bad) and found them poorly designed in terms of level layout and mechanics. heavily relying on rehashing bosses and level art from the superior genesis games. I don't think everyone will ever realize that Sonic games suck because Hirokazu Yasuhara, the designer, left long ago somewhere in the middle of the Sonic X-Treme fiasco. Yuji Naka is a shill. Yasuhara instead left to Naughty Dog working on the Jak and Dexter series as well as Uncharted. now he designs Mario vs. Donkey Kong games, ironically.

Some heartless jackass makes a fake Majora's Mask HD trailer because he hates me, specifically

I should say that Nintendo messed up the Tingle Statues in Wind Waker HD though. THEY'D BETTER NOT DO IT AGAIN. -

Haha, awww, I never hated the game specifically, just many aspects. I actually really wanted it to be remade for the very specific reasons of fixing gameplay issues. Wind Waker HD was so good, I believe in you Neeteendo! -
I don't know your mileage may very. The third season is really good! It made me feel more disappointed with season 4 though. I think part of it is Season 4 is a half season, a lot of season 3 drama is not resolved and too many things happen too quickly because of the small amount of episodes. AMC actually cancelled it at the end of 3 but then Netflix funded a few more episodes. It's weird, I loved the main characters, and the seasons alternated from good to cheesy and back, I think it would have benefited from a season 5 at the full 13 episodes to give a better end to the series and not end on such an uninteresting and contrived case.

I don't know what to think of The Killing. It kept going up and down between a CSI type sleaze or a slow paced but interesting crime drama. There were times where I couldn't help but bingewatch all of it, but some of the links were ridiculously stupid or ill thought out. I still don't even know why we watched a bunch of nonsense with this halfwit drooling girl Lyric in season 3 when it had no influence on any of the main characters or even the case. It was more useless than the weird slow moving plots involving Rosie's mom hanging around at hotels and sleeping with random men in the second season. It's like sometimes the writers created plot threads but whatever was supposed to ultimately happen with that story element was nixed. Ultimately I wouldn't recommend it because the show starts to become full of obvious red herrings in all cases except the final one and sometimes the show is a bit gross on how intent it is on having a show where all young women/girls are victims to maybe an extreme degree. Definitely the high point of the series were just the well written two main detectives. Linden and Holder were perfectly acted and always believable to me. Their reactions were part of what made it so interesting. The fourth and final season's case is also absurdly idiotic and the final ending is a cop out. So ultimately, I don't like The Killing I suppose.

Oh man, that Double Dragon Neon soundtrack pretty much needs a song per post in this thread. This piece of 80s cheese in the first level is probably my favorite in the game. If I recall the singer is one of the artists at Wayforward.

I probably won't ever end up owning this game unless it goes multiplatform, but I've been sort of interested in it, especially since I like the Ratchet and Clank series, and Fuse was pretty good even though it tried too hard in it's own way. I'm glad you said something about the forced punk attitude, that was sort of what was bothering me most. Like I wanted to watch gameplay videos because the game looks so pretty but I also sometimes would cringe at this SkateorDie type attitude. I think you nailed it though, they probably feel the need to be overbearing with the attitude as a former second party AAA developer.

Oh man, I forgot about the sword clink sound in Awakening and the Oracle games. While it wasn't liberally used like bombing random walls in LoZ, almost every time I was stuck or missed something it usually would have something to do with those damn sword clinks.

Huh, I was imagining something much worse, kind of like these you often see for $2: -
I can't really find the article I'm referring to, but there was a time at some point in 2011 or 2012 where some dude wrote this long ass article on how the best Zelda is the first one for NES and it's all downhill from there. And cited the amount of time wasted grinding on the overworld as part of the beauty of exploration. So I will just use this one, since it is part of that echochamber: http://kotaku.com/5885595/zelda-just-keeps-getting-worse-but-it-isnt-beyond-saving Babies need cracks in the wall. It kills exploration. Also on a similar note, does everyone remember how hilarious stupid it was to run around in Wolfenstein 3D going, "uh uh" on every wall until you found a secret? Personally, I think the original Legend of Zelda's high points were the dungeons and I had a Nintendo in the 80s, never bothering to finish neither of the NES Zeldas until my late teens. I'm not kidding myself into thinking any of that time wasting philosophy should return. We have Free to Play games to fill that hole now.

Dog Mendonça and Pizzaboy: a new LucasArts-ish adventure
syntheticgerbil replied to FluxW's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah it's weird, it's like I've been conditioned to expect voice over. When I started up Hyrule Warriors, I felt with this kind of fidelity the cutscenes were starting to look ridiculous without voice over. Lack of voice over works well when it's within the confines of a UI with text, like the MGS Codecs or something (even though those are voiced I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't voice them), but since cutscenes in games are straight up animation, and gorgeous adventure games like this are renowned for their animation, it can get a bit awkward. I'm glad it made it's goal, hopefully I will have money to buy it when it comes out. -
No it sucks because you don't grind enemies to buy fried bombs to burn every bush and blow up every wall, duh. Gamers today, such babies, they don't know what the 80s were all about, so hardcore.

Just clarifying, because I tend to measure a games worth not just on the quality of design on the basic path but the quality of design on the road of obtaining full completion. I feel like from the Gamecube era and on this is how Majora's Mask has been treated, sort of like there's weirdos who think somehow the first Zelda game ever has the best design. Obviously the former has a point because I love Majora's Mask for all of the things you said, but I guess I also like Link's Awakening, Wind Waker, and Minish Cap for the same (well only the first is sort of dark). I've never been the biggest fan of the straightforward hero Zelda games like Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time. I guess I completely understand if there are fans out there who either disliked the game or did not finish it. There's a lot to dislike there. But, this is Nintendo's chance to fix tedium, just as they did with Wind Waker. They didn't really mess with Ocarina outside of a couple of added Water Temple signs and making the boots no longer tedious to switch, but I think Majora's Mask has a lot of issues that they can work out and they should. Also could they released this for WiiU and not for 3DS and do a much larger graphic overhaul? I'd prefer that.

The thing is, it seems like they are basing the point on an aesthetical and artistic basis than actual gameplay itself. Like I can totally see someone who has no clue about the genre or general gameplay of a series getting mad at it for being what it is, but if someone enjoys the gameplay of the game in question, then they should be able to review the outside wrapping itself whatever way they like, then there's the degree on how integral it is to the game's plot and so on. It's like this, this is one of the worst reviews I'd ever seen: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/11/double-dragon-neon-review He rates DD Neon 3/10, which is considered half broken on the IGN scale, because he hates punching stuff and also failed to press the select button and ever upgrade any of the RPG elements, because he fails to say there is anything beyond punching. He also lies and says the game takes 30 minutes to beat. As of now, the fastest speed run is at 36 minutes, which is impossible to obtain on a first playthrough and was only done by maxing out all upgrades on a new game plus file and knowing the game in and out. He doesn't really give the game a fair shake and seems to just have hang ups about the beat 'em genre. There's a lot of fair stuff to criticize that is subjective as far as aesthetics, content, animation, and level layout, but he just seems to be angry at the core of the game, which means he really has no business reviewing such a thing. Most publications tend to assign someone to a game where they will like the gameplay style. Anyway, this letter doesn't seem to be doing anything right. I can't seem to find much on it post election. I pretty much tuned her out upon finding out she was running. I did just find this article which is hilarious on how poorly researched it is: http://www.dailytexanonline.com/2014/11/07/effects-of-gamergate-controversy-felt-in-austin-city-council-race Hahaha, what?! I think the article writer probably couldn't fathom how a woman was running for a platform based on harassment and misogyny, so she wrote it in the most sensical way possible.

Yeah I've kind of always hated that. It's like, you're not a REAL Zelda fan unless you whisper about the greatness Majora's Mask. Except everyone has been fucking saying it for years that's it's some kind of (relatively) unknown gem based on who knows what. I think it's because a lot of people know about this finicky and often tedious time and save system that it automatically puts many potential players off and therefore it snugly stays obscure. This is not to say the game is bad, it's very interesting, looks very good, and is often very fun. However to ignore all of it's shortcomings really make it hard to explain why this one game in extremely popular series hovers in the background, and rightfully so. I notice when I talk to a lot of Zelda fans offhand about Majora's Mask, they didn't collect all masks, they didn't complete many side quests, and they didn't capture all of the ugly fairies in the dungeons. Like, you pretty much have to have an FAQ if you want to 100% the game. A lot of the side quest stuff is poorly explained, especially due to time, and requires many restarts if you mess up. Like the Anju love quest is an absolute disaster of poor design. I had to go through that tediousness three times all because of the part where you suddenly are dropped in a timed sequence at the very end where you control both Link and Anju. Except, well, it's funny how for one fucking time in their tutorial laden life, Nintendo actually doesn't explain that you are controlling a second character. So first time I didn't get I was supposed to be moving him, second I just wasn't good enough, third I did it but I was pissed either way at all the time wasted for a stupid quest. The heart pieces you can obtain in the four path tree area before the last boss are ones that you can be permanently locked out of obtaining if you miss them, a first in Zelda. I was stuck fighting those flying Snakes after running out of magic with no way to go back to giant Link and since I was small, they could no longer kill me and allow me to start the level over. Instead I had to reset the console and lose tons of save progress. I also remember something about restoring the Zora instruments being obnoxious, the minigames being too difficult, and the Skulltula house being hard to completely clear. Plus as I mentioned earlier the tedious switching of masks and the need to constantly refight all of these bosses. For all of the quirkiness and fun I had in Majora's Mask over a decade ago, I also clearly remember these faults. My favorite Zelda is Wind Waker, and the HD version even more, and as much flack it got for being tedious with the triforce hunt, nothing in that game equals the tediousness of most of Majora's Mask. SO TWIG, to make sure here. Did you get everything? All heart pieces, all upgrades, all masks, all small fairies, all side quests finished?

Why are they based Guybrush and Elaine on the ugly Special Edition character art? For shame. Although in the play... Guybrush is sort of bald?
