Why free? Is this because everyone complained?

Twin Peaks Rewatch 5: The One-Armed Man
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
Considering David Lynch has used Jack Nance in many of his movies, I would think he thinks pretty highly of his acting skills at least. Also those Japanese commercials are brilliant! -
Thimbleweed Park: A new adventure game from Ron Gilbert & Garry Winnick!
syntheticgerbil replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
Well isn't it just the general consensus that his adventures aren't very well written and are poorly designed? You know, I would love another Insecticide to come out if Larry Ahern wants to get back in the game. That game was neat besides a lot of the shooter levels. Really his backgrounds are his saving grace and what he's known for, but there are other background artists up to par with better adventures with better characters at Daedalic. -
Wake Me Up Before You IndieGoGo: A Crowdfunding Thread

Reposting here if that's okay: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1447280164/in-a-world-of-dinosaurs-a-board-game-youll-totally A friend of mine did a lot of artwork for this dinosaur board game which has a Kickstarter going right now. It involves dinosaurs! -
Hooray! Thank you guys!

Thimbleweed Park: A new adventure game from Ron Gilbert & Garry Winnick!
syntheticgerbil replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
This is cool and all but the weird flat plane style with very little walking room and everyone being of the same body type Zak McKracken and Maniac Mansion is for sure something I don't want to see return. But, they get my negative money (debt), so thanks guys. -
Idle Thumbs 184: Super Pools 'n' Ghosts
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Well I guess he was a cowboy or a Crocodile Dundee type at some point. Now unlike Sonic he doesn't chuckle and Rouge is sexy as hell. (Bat tits) -
I don't think it needs its own thread, I wasn't sure if the Kickstarter thread was for games only though.

Idle Thumbs 184: Super Pools 'n' Ghosts

He also says unlike Sonic he doesn't chuckle. I don't recall Sonic chuckling either. -
Oh my fucking god, that is actually a real movie!

Idle Thumbs 183: The Anonymouses

Wait, wasn't this one of the really funny episodes?! What gives? -

So I suppose I am throwing it in here. Should I put this somewhere else on the forum though? I don't know enough about board games. It involves dinosaurs!

Okay fine, I joined in! Yeah it's just not the same without the advent calendar parts.

I sort of prefer the Alien Director's Cut. I'm not sure the inserted "kill me" stuff was necessary but I didn't mind it. What I liked was that Ridley Scott made it slightly shorter by trimming the movie here and there all along the way, which makes for a quicker experience, which I think does the movie a service. Someone went through the tedious task of comparison if you are curious, Toblix: http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=1385

Oh man, that's awesome SiN. I had no idea you were up to something! Hopefully I can try it out if I get a PS Vita or PS4 in the near future. Or is the PC version about the same? Also I voted for you on Greenlight while I was at it.

Idle Thumbs 184: Super Pools 'n' Ghosts
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Hahaha, whyyyyyy?!!!! I suppose that is canon, he did do that in the cartoon that old Sonic Team "supervised." I don't even think the original Knuckles is supposed to have dreadlocks even! It's just their stylized echidna quills on top of Felix the Cat the same way Sonic has stylized hedgehog quills also on top of Felix the Cat. The transition from Knuckles to just another doppleganger style character to this rap music bad ass dude in Sonic Adventure is really jarring on retrospect. -
Ahhh, I want everyone's avatar to be animated now!

Idle Thumbs 184: Super Pools 'n' Ghosts
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I'm so glad the podcast cut off right before I had to hear about 1989, Max Martin and Shellback's next new foray into the pop puppet show. Also everyone knows that Knuckles is Sonic's friendly Nemsis: I don't think you can really consider anything in the Sonic games as exuding personality until they got the terrible writing and voice acting in the Dreamcast era. Before it was whatever you could glean from the attitude on the title screens. The cartoons, comics, and chapter books were all SoA marketing junk, and I get the feeling the manuals were still of the era when someone in the United States wrote a bunch of shit off the top of their head. I suppose there was that Sonic OVA. It wasn't half bad from what I remember. Knuckles was only ever friendly in that. There was also voice acting in the SegaSonic arcade trackball fun time machine, but Knuckles wasn't in that. -
Only in Sonic 3 and on does it have the double jump function for Super Sonic. Honestly, I didn't even know Super Sonic was in Sonic 2 until much later in life. I didn't see any point to collecting the emeralds those dozens of times I played it back then. The whole thing that got me started was the save file in Sonic 3 indicated emeralds on the slot. I don't think I owned any game manuals as a kid and no internet to get to then.

I remember playing Sonic 2 over and over as a kid just accumulating all of these damn lives and continues to only fail on those last two one hit kill bosses. That was a bad idea, the game was so cheap there. Also I was never able to beat the game with all emeralds as a child, because it has one glaring design error when you get them: once you jump after 50 rings, you become Super Sonic no mattter what. So instead of making the game easier, it makes it so much harder in the end because you can't amass all of those one ups and continues by the end of the game by hoarding rings on the earlier easier levels. Luckily you can just save in modern versions.

Hah it was good but I couldn't stop cringing at the bad Simpsons animation.

Ah, that's tricky. I suppose I'd have to go with the theatrical cut, because I prefer that ending. The director's cut is really good in some parts, especially with removing that useless voice over, but I hate how Zwigoff removed a bunch of scenes just for the sake of the flow of the movie, which was already short in my opinion. We usually just watch the "unrated" one that's on the blu-ray because it has a lot of the scenes we love from the theatrical cut, but the downside is it also includes a lot of worthless and unfunny scenes and kind of makes the movie drag in general. I would have preferred they just put the theatrical cut on the blu-ray and just put all of the unrated stuff as deleted scenes.

So I have been watching Bad Santa every Christmas since 2005. Does anyone else think this movie is brilliant? I completely understand if you don't. But like, how can you drop me on my own head? A lot of the greatest lines in the movies were written by the Coen Brothers but they were not credited.
