  1. Day of the Tentacle Special Edition

It's a weird choice, but I think they should have just called it Grim HD, since that's usually what is understood these days with other HD versions. Just an up res and new textures. Sometimes maybe some normal maps or something added, but it's very rare the original models are ever readjusted. But then there's like Another World Remastered Edition which had redrawn backgrounds but the original vector work was just upresed. But then there's a new rerelease I think with the glitches from the upressed vectors fixed. I suppose there was that boring Leisure Suit Larry remake which was "reloaded." So really we are going on the definition of what the Monkey Island games set for Special Edition which generally doesn't apply to games to be redrawn things, but more like a nice package and maybe some bonus DVD or extra levels included.
  2. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

    Bleh, Steam.
  3. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

But MGS 1 and 2 were on PC long ago, plus Revengeance. And technically Metal Gear 1 and 2 were on PC in Japan if you count MSX as a PC. Besides the handhelds, really just MGS3, MGS4, and Twin Snakes have been console exclusive.
  4. Day of the Tentacle Special Edition

I think the Lucas SEs ran at 30fps or at least 24, and that it just depending on how much whoever was animating in the original game wanted to draw. But I think things like screen scrolling were moving at around 15 fps, at least that's what it seemed to me. The Special Editions definitely moved many animations up to the full 30 with the screen scrolling, lighting and water effects they added on top as well as the double framed walk cycles in MI2, but they also tended to sometimes skip over some of the frames originally made or they just looked weird and stiff because they used 3D model Guybrush. I guess it was all down to time and budget. Don't know if you could push 60 fps in Scumm for screen scrolling or whatever else, but I'd rather Day of the Tentacle just keep the same frame count for all of the animations since the game looks fine the way it is I think. I don't know, maybe if it's in the hands of Double Fine animators, it might be cool to see what they come up with.
  5. Idle Thumbs Asks: What Is the Best Video Game of All Time?

No, I just mean, I really hate that Napoleon-Dynamite-Drew-This aesthetic that some artists use. But it was still a great listen. If you use Firefox, get the plugin Download Helper and you can get any Mp3 off of Soundcloud. My favorite game is probably Beyond Good and Evil, even though I've only played it about four times through now. It's such a smooth gameplay experience that is intensely enjoyable every time. Otherwise, it's probably Full Throttle or Grim Fandango. Probably Full Throttle more than Grim just because it's shorter and I've finished it too many times to count before I got too old to replay games on the regular and had responsibilities and things. Plus I like the isolated feeling of road trip type scenarios. Grim's the better game though.
  6. Idle Thumbs 188: A Refined Baby

BITE DE BULLEET BITE DE BULLEET Highlights totally sucked. My grandpa bought my subscriptions for years, I guess it was his way of caring 6 states away. All I liked was Goofus and Gallant, mostly just to see what a mother fucker Goofus was being.
  7. Hatred: The Most Despicable Game of All Time?

Ahaha, I love the talking condiments in Space Quest IV.
  8. Idle Thumbs Asks: What Is the Best Video Game of All Time?

What is that awful drawing/animation on the matter article?! Holy hell!
  9. Looks good, but I will wait. Remember Me also seemed like something I would love, but when it came out no one really had anything good to say about it. If anything the best I could hear from someone was that, "it's average."
  10. Life

    I purposefully ignored that part.
  11. Idle Thumbs 188: A Refined Baby

The cloud you can stand on at the end of the epilogue is really just an introspective manifestation of his ashes spilled from the can!
  12. Life

He didn't want me to say this, but Twig really wants you to hang out with him over Christmas. Miffy, do you have Amazon Prime? Nothing as insanely hilarious as yours, but I've similar packaging anomalies like that that happen a few times since I got the Amazon Prime trial (which I ran out of last month), and it's almost like it seems if you need your package quickly they just grab whatever is around. I don't even know why Amazon does Sunday delivery for Prime now either, it's pretty disgusting.
  13. What are the must-see TV series?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48WCJ84z7vw Small Wonder of course.
  14. Idle Thumbs 188: A Refined Baby

    Sooo... minotaur?
  15. Photos of things

Well it's actually pretty grand. Wonderful!
  16. Life

Yeah Cartoon Saloon takes a lot of Irish Heritage (is that the correct agency?) money for projects as a large body of their work, even short films, involves Irish subject matter in some form or another.
  17. Life

Please get a job so I can get an in to Cartoon Saloon! They probably won't relocate me though.
  18. Idle Thumbs 188: A Refined Baby

Is this the origin of woof? Kevin McAllister's shenanigans?! Also I hope you guys enjoy this:
  19. Idle Thumbs 188: A Refined Baby

I relistened to the 187 and there were no woofs, and I can't keep going backwards. I concede with the woofs. Unless it was just Jake saying "woof" this whole time? Maybe you guys have never said woof and I am getting all of my podcasts mixed up.
  20. Photos of things

    Shopped!
  21. Idle Thumbs 188: A Refined Baby

Please no more "woofs" I beg of you. I mean, it's still going after Sean is absent with his 20 "woofs" per episode. Plus around the same time this started coming up on Idlethumbs, Griffin on MBMBAM maybe champions Sean on the amount of "woofs" per podcast. Now cringe: Was Scholastic super expensive? I was never allowed anything from those as everything was deemed too expensive for my parents to afford. Instead I was given trips to a used book store, but between my allowance and my parents buying used books to make up for no Scholastics, I collected a ton of Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes pretty quickly. I finally gave up all of my old books for basically no money to Half Priced Books after I got that super nice set, but I did keep some of the ones with the original spot illustrations between strips. It's pretty shitty that those weren't reprinted. Complete fucking Calvin and Hobbes my ass. Haha, is the file extension .gif a work of art to be interpreted? Also Donkey Kong Country? Hell yeah there is bias! They were always so ugly and I feel like the platforming was so so subpar. And so many Donkey Kong Country games were just considered poor among the few that people enjoy. Even if it's now Retro and not Rare, I think the damage was done. BUT HOW ABOUT RAYMAN BIAS? Each game has had genius platforming (or at least solid) but always gets criminally overlooked. Well until recently with Origins and Legends which were much loved. Rayman 2 was well reviewed back then, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who was as fond of Rayman 2 they way I am.
  22. General Video Game Deals Thread

I think it's definitely a Gamergate prod. I forgot to agree with you, haha.

How do you convert gems to gifts? If they are purchasing supplies they need cold hard cash! Yeah it's weird, even when I log in to the Steam website and check my country and all, for the last year or two it's always been in another language. The client works just fine though.
  24. Photos of things

They seem to maneuver better than I think a cat or squirrel would on the same type of branches. What kind of trees are those? Is it pretty cold where you live right now as well?
  25. General Video Game Deals Thread

I can't read the comic because the Steam website is broken ass bullshit and seems to think I live in Italy. For a while it was Sweden or something. It's never the United States though, that would be insane. Nevermind, works in Chrome, I usually use Firefox. So why do elves want gems? What will they do with them?
