That's good, because besides his worthless crack about Net Neutrality being the Obamacare of the internet, I'm really worried about all these Republicans taking over to dismantle Obamacare. That's fine if they want to, I can't afford Obamacare even though I want to have healthcare, but I can't afford any of the plans monthly currently (even though they are somewhat reasonable). But what bothers me is all of these people just want to tear apart the only plan to get rid of "socialism" or something and not actually do anything to fix healthcare prices and how your life is just crushed should you have a major medical problem. Or just semi-major. Then it just goes back into the hands of your employer to maybe provide you something okay or terrible for a price you might not like, which you can still do. I fail to see how Obamacare takes away anyone's freedoms. Anyway I guess this doesn't belong in this thread.

House of Cards (U.S.) has become so stupid, but it's also just another one of those shows I watch every episode of just because I need shows to watch while I do things. I don't find any of the writing particularly good or making much sense. I don't feel like it'll ever reach the height of the first season again.

I hate Ted Cruz because he's a god damn idiot. To me he fits as another god damn idiot Texas politician.

Man that is a seriously well placed photo op.

Driving since 16, it's basically a requirement to do anything in Texas as all across the board it has poor public transport. Driving is fine, I like listening to music, but what I really hate is just the expense of owning a car. I've never had a new car or like new car, I've always had to go through older cars bought second hand for a few thousand and they inevitably end up dead or costing way too much in repairs. My car right now feels like it's on it's last legs but I am broke as fuck and I don't know what I'm going to do if something bad happens to it. I can't finance a car for x amount of dollars a month when I'm already drowning in debt. Cars fucking suck.

I guess I generally don't know how those work, sorry.

They don't really have a nice website designed to hold all of the podcast episodes in one place, but you could go here: http://henryrollins.com/news I usually just get the updates from their Facebook page, I linked the Apple page because that is the only place where the episodes so far are neatly consolidated into one place. I don't think Heidi and especially Henry are that tech savvy to follow suit with other podcasts just yet. Oh man the newest one is about a long lost track Rollins Band recorded with RuPaul. I hope this gets leaked one day. Sounds hilarious. Makes me think of the Shatner track with Henry as a guest star.

Haha what fiction with a political message is regressive? Christ what an idiot.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
syntheticgerbil replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
No they have to hand it to you! You can't just take it, that would be so mean. There's nothing worse than a missing tool. NOTHING. My wife's grandpa recently died and we got a few 50s and 60s tools when they were pretty heavy duty. I don't know why stuff has to be so delicate these dfays. -
Might as well, maybe it'll get it out of everyone's system.

How come you guys don't have dads that just keep handing you old tools? Also, love that green text Ben. -
Is your everyday life like the Simpsons? Can you spill soda on your console on purpose and go home?

I just hope not exclusively.

Whoa, this seems pretty serious then. A friend/designer I knew got hired at Kojima Productions LA but didn't want to move to LA in the end so he didn't take it. Also I am not sure what Kojima Productions LA has actually done since their inception in 2012. I was under the impression that it would be mobile games (maybe Metal Gear Acid 3 which seems to have been tossed around as a possible iPad game for years), but I can't seem to find any release info.

Well should they make some great games for these devices AND charge a fair price ahead of time, like $6 or up, then maybe it will be better for all the developers where over the years their games have been either grossly pirated (on Android) or absolutely devalued (on iOS). That is unless they want to exclusively push the Free to Play shit that everyone else does. Yuck. Six, but that's substantial enough to consider a slew to me, especially for something so pointless. For these type of Virtual Console releases that they trickle out and try to make a big deal of instead of just dumping them on the store, I can imagine they wouldn't want to ignore the potential on mobile devices despite them saying otherwise

Nah Kojima Productions is still a subsidiary of Konami so it's still going to be their property forever and ever. Either way if this does happen, but I imagine Konami does not want it to and will work something out, then Metal Gear has had a good run, so no big deal. The rumors before were always that Kojima would no longer direct any Metal Gear games over and over, so this one is a bit different because it's actually something tangible like his employment status.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
syntheticgerbil replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Did anyone ever touch on this stuff in the 90s? The most I remember is ordering the Space Quest Collection from the catalog after the buyout and the return address saying "Cendant." Then it later became Havas I think. Googling what he said, he wasn't making shit up even though the whole things reads as pretty vague. I'm surprised how on the money he is about a lot of the changes, but I am confused why he called Warcraft a RPG since he was around for Warcraft's rise. Maybe he meant a different game title and got it mixed up? Kind of miss the guy. Sucks he only recently just worked on a remake of one of the weakest Larry titles instead of something new and it sucks Paul Trowe screwed him out of money. Glad they didn't linger too much on Trowe though, that stuff he was up to is gross and bizarre. -
Yeahhhh, but I just don't believe it, I guess just because of the slew of rereleases with 3D capability released for 3DS.

I guess my takeaway is that this will be an interesting experiment for Nintendo because I want to know how they are going to deal with the mess of mobile games right now, which is the entitlement of the customer base for free shit and the insane amount of hardware differences. Android stuff is just a mess of different hardware all with different OS versions and iOS store is already diluted with clones of NIntendo stuff. WIndows Phone, who even knows? There's like nothing major in terms of games on the Windows App store. I think of NIntendo as a company who ensures the quality of their games partly because they know the device they are made for in and out and have a control over it. Then again all this be is just them dumping a bunch of virtual console games on app stores.

The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?
syntheticgerbil replied to Reyturner's topic in Video Gaming
Hmmm, well both of you guys make it seem like it's way more founded in some kind of historical precedent, just needing a knowledge of Japanese language and culture, so I like the way that all sounds. It would make sense. As a plain translation it just takes me off guard, but I think it's just a matter of what Kojima wants even if it's lost on U.S. audiences. Like Volgin, a Russian, just likes to utter, "kuwabara, kuwabara." Like I was thinking the other night, my friend and I had rescued all of the voice actors in Peacewalker for the trophy, but besides them having the title "voice actor" or "actress" under their randomized animal name, it makes no sense to U.S. audiences. I wonder why they didn't just want to draw three portraits of some of the U.S. voice actors? I guess this is just to say it all makes sense as Kojima productions doesn't seem to care to localize any of these games.- 198 replies

Did you play the original series without the voices? I forgot. I think the original SE doesn't let you play the original graphics with voices. I've ranted and raved so much on how ugly the first Special Edition was, but I guess it's just a matter of having the right people. If they would have at least just redone the characters to have the CMI designs instead of either prerendered 3D Model sprites plus weird corpse Guybrush close up paintings I think it would have made a little bit more sense, so besides being frustrated I'm still really confused by a lot of the choices. You need to get to the Tales of games Zeus! I think you'll love 'em... or if not generally enjoy them.

The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?
syntheticgerbil replied to Reyturner's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah I mean that was what I put in my spoiler, but why those dumb syllables out of all dumb syllables? It's one of the most ridiculous things all of these people could continuously say without laughing. I don't remember the details with Ames specifically, but yeah the fact that somehow almost everyone with any sort of involvement in government or the plot is aware of the Patriots is one of the biggest headaches of the series.- 198 replies

Cat's Eyes did the soundtrack for that film. Cat's Eyes creates great music.
