  1. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

Hermie, is your life the coldest?
  2. Idle Food - Cooking!

Haha I read that first as "fresh tomato sauce on my burgers" and was thinking that actually sounds pretty good.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah I worry about that too, I have some personal things floating around in past posts and I sometimes worry about people googling. Maybe less so today. It's no reason to say someone is being a fucking child, namman.
  4. The Wolf Among Us

Finished this and man, I don't know, I think I'm done with Telltale no puzzle linear adventure games. I might bother with Walking Dead Season 2 at some point because I own it, but 500 days was pretty bad so I'm not thrilled about continuing. What I love about Wolf Among Us is it is gorgeous, the style looks amazing to me here. I liked the characters, world, dialogue, voices, animations, and expressions. This is what kept me going because I don't care for this gameplay watered down this much at all. In Walking Dead the timed dialogue responses were not for every sequence completely, just character defining ones, it still had a lot of the (great) adventure game tropes of having areas to walk around and explore as well as ask questions of individual characters just to get more information on the world around you. It also had some puzzles, they weren't hard but it was a good thing to throw in the mix. In Wolf Among Us, I was being rushed over everything even though the pacing of the story is slow. For an investigator, Bigby frequently would leave scenes once he found whatever bit of evidence that leads to the next linear sequence without me agreeing to this. There were many places where I just wanted to see everything I could click on before running out the door, so instead I start playing a game against the game where I try to click on the things I predict are the least important first so that I can enjoy the game more before I'm transported to the next room. It's completely idiotic. Most dialogue sequences were arbitrary choices, and they didn't always make sense on conveying what I was trying to say. Since you can't skip dialogue just like in Walking Dead, I learned early on that reloading means that I have to sit around and watch all of these cutscenes again to get back to where I was before the game did what I didn't quite want it to do because a dialogue option didn't make sense or I ran out of time or something. Walking Dead S1 didn't matter so much on that stuff because the general flow of that game was going from timed linear sequences to open areas you explore and repeat. Also Fables did try to do a couple of open areas where I could ask a character a question about something, but it often would only let me get one question in and not let me talk to the character again despite them still sitting right there. In almost every case I would have wanted to ask questions about other things pertaining to the world, but since reloading is a punishment I had to go without. It's a bunch of nonsense to design this way. I guess the game got too Heavy Rained and suffered for it. Also episode 5 kind of killed the whole story for me, which I was loving until then.
  5. I Had A Random Thought...

Because of that, I often do find myself saying queue when I'm in line for something where I have to take tickets that get called out or if it's some kind of electronic ordered system where names or positions get entered first.
  6. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Haha, Tberton turning this thread into getting you back into the game you just quit. I love it.
  7. New people: Read this, say hi.

A haunted latte sounds like a great drink.
  8. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, I keep forgetting about how much all that stuff bothers me. Damn it Kojima Prod. and your puppies with eye patches!
  9. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

    Is this a robot troll?
  10. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I'm annoyed that it is impossible to preorder that Collector's Edition now. I don't care about those extra dlc codes and I don't want that stupid fucking hand at all. I am just pissed that that is the only way to get the making of blu-ray. The easy to find MGS4 limited edition came with one that was way over an hour long and a good watch. Seems like a shame to tuck that away in an extremely low quantity limited edition most people preordered for the sake of a plastic arm. If I were to get my hands on that edition, I'd probably just gut the game and making of disc and put the rest on ebay. I'm guessing it will all play much closer to a longform version of Peacewalker than the weird ultralinear mess of MGS4. The video has a lot of +GMP notifications which means it will be doing a lot of the same in terms of doing random things to earn resources for better weapons and soldiers.
  11. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

The licensed 80s music to fit with the time period is a nice touch. Seeing the P.T. logos is painful. Damn it, I'll never get to play it.
  12. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy

Haha, as inappropriate as it is, that is probably the best age to play it at. Awesome you played with your daughter. Zeus loves Conker, does that mean the cycle will repeat? Also since SAM brought up Double Dragon Neon, I forgot to mention how much fun that is to play with a friend who also had Double Dragon on NES as a kid. The end credits rock opera sung by Skullmageddon (Sean Velasco) is perfect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-O_u_y5r1o
  13. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy

I played the pretty Xbox one a few years ago and there was a lot of jokes that made me pretty uncomfortable either because they were too cruel or sexist. The commentary is much milder than the actual game itself, they just sometimes like to talk bad about former and current coworkers, Rare, and Microsoft. It's usually all bleeped out though. Conker also has a Matrix parody sequence. Everyone loves those right?
  14. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy

Oh yeah, the Conker's Pocket Tales is not a sequel but is for all intents and purposes a handheld version of the original game that was to be which was released first for whatever reason. It contains a bunch of prerendered assets and characters that were either scrapped or changed for the final game. I forgot exactly what happened but it's in Chris Seavor's commentary for the game on Youtube. He hated Twelve Tales (and I think had issues with certain team leads at Rare and the games they made in general) and it seems like management was more than okay with him taking over the lead of this redundant 64 game that no one at the studio was particularly thrilled about. It's also weird because probably the most endearing thing that I find about the game is Conker's voice, which is Seavor's. Since Conker's Pocket Tales and Diddy Kong Racing made it to the public first, he pretty much retroactively took this obscure established character and made it his. Then his Twitter is @conkerhimself, which seems arrogant because he doesn't own the character but then he is paid to come back and voice Conker for Project Spark, which is funny since it does not seem like he left Rare on good terms. I find all this Conker retooling to be a pretty curious story of game development. I wish I knew why Rare found it appropriate to go ahead and release Pocket Tales way before either versions of its big console counterpart was finished. Chris Seavor also did not seem to have any love for collectathons which is why you collect a few bundles of cash as a requirement instead of an extra part of the game. In many ways it's wasn't exactly Rare making fun of itself but more like this bitter artist at the studio making fun of the games they made (that he didn't like). It seems like going by the former staff present during the commentary not a lot of teams meshed with Seavor and the others he worked with, so there was always this disconnect, between him and his coworkers, leading to a lot of trash talking that is bleeped out. I should probably relisten to the commentary since it was fun and it appears I forgot everything, but it's also somewhat obnoxious because they are really bad at playing their own game and there's a lot of strange noises made by Mr. Seavor the more drunk he gets.
  15. Video Game Pricing - Fair or Not Fair

No, the problem is if you aren't working 80 hour weeks, you just aren't passionate about games man, and you need to get out.
  16. Life

Ah, I would hope so. Seems like that wouldn't be allowed in Canada as well. Jon Cole, I think San Antonio is a sort of cheap place to live, so there's that, but I don't know how that compares to Jacksonville.
  17. Video Game Pricing - Fair or Not Fair

I feel like on release day, digital games should be $5-10 less than the physical counterparts, things going on sale later kind of muddy the equation.
  18. Life

Whoa, are companies legally allowed to look this up?
  19. Video Game Pricing - Fair or Not Fair

I do think $60 is fair for some big blockbuster multi million dollar game, because you pay a more premium price for the graphics and it would be silly to think otherwise. Only problem is I very rarely ever buy a game at $60 because 1) I often have no money and 2) I have such a backlog of games to finish, buying a new one makes me feel guilty and irresponsible. But I do think DLC chunks are a fair enough way for developers to subvert loses for used game sales, however I think it's a bit of a balance. But to this: Yeah, this annoys the shit out of me. Trying to extend the life of your game by adding some half assed multiplayer and attaching trophies or achievements or whatever for completionists is a pointless waste of money and developer's lives that I am pretty much sure they don't recoup if you add in server cost. I'm looking at you Tomb Raider 2013. Hopefully Crystal Dynamics doesn't even bother with a poorly made multiplayer mode in the new one. I feel like almost a decade ago when digital games were not really a thing people paid for, the argument for them was they would be somewhat cheaper because it cuts out costs on having to pay for pressing discs, printing covers, and shipping product. It seems like that never caught on and I am still to this day confused why a digital game costs the same as a boxed copy. Seems like a publisher would want to give incentive for that.
  20. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy

I'm not to be trusted because I just have this irrational disgust everytime I hear about a Rare game.
  21. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy

Sometimes, it's often more of an adventure game than a platformer. Danielle describes it much better in the video on Polygon. But like, there's a lot of Nintendo games out there to play instead of Rare games. They often don't star a cast of the most hideous 3D characters you will ever see.
  22. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy

Wha? What's with the Conker hate? That's pretty much the only Rare game worth playing, should you bother at all. Also Jesus Christ, why is Polygon still using that awful Nos ad starring tough guy with the lisp six months down the line? I can never escape this ad.
  23. Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."

Hmmm, the link is broken, but maybe it is good to wait.
  24. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

Haha, wow, I guess it's because I reload a lot of scenes go really wrong that I couldn't fathom. Probably reloaded the least on MGS3 after the beginning stuff with Sokolov, which was kind of a pain. However I usually end up having 3-5 kills on MGS runs, often I am punching or throwing someone off a thing in MGS3 and it counts as a kill, and since I'm not caught I go with it. That Sorrow sequence sounds absolutely painful like that.
  25. Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."

I still don't seem to be allowed this update, any reason why they are holding out still? I probably won't be able to install it for about 2 weeks because I don't want to mess with my settings on stuff in the middle of a few projects, but it would be nice to get going during down time. Is it because I built my computer that it is not necessarily going to work?
