  1. Fallout 3

Aren't a lot 800 points because that equals 10 US dollars? That's what I figured. The MS points to Dollar exchange rate is 1.25 right?
  2. Lego Pirates

Yeah, I also too have been disenchanted with what whores the Lego company has become. I mean I haven't been actively playing with them for over 13 years, but they used to be my favorite toys, and it's always sad when I see so many licensed merchandise that is pushed to kids these days, at least in the United States. Sure when I was young I had a Garfield plush and played Capcom Disney games on my NES, but now it seems like anything targeted to a younger crowd that is an original property without any type of establishment or tie in, it has no chance. Not mention all those horrible half assed Disney channel/CG movie games that relentlessly clutter up the shelves of all Nintendo consoles. Yuck. There's no way another Humongous games type studio could ever survive now.
  3. Are YOU a rapist?

They should make "celeb" mean "celebate." I'm so sick of that word.
  4. Lego Pirates

Wow, pirates used to be my favorite Lego as well. Clumsily shooting those cannonballs out from the flick cannon. I'm almost tempted to buy these.
  5. I think you'll love this -- Pepsi design strategy

Well everyone knows when you pick a brand of soda that you love to drink in front of your friends outside after school on the chain link fence, carefully holding the can so you can nonchalantly flash the logo of your specific radical choice, you are expressing what an original take-no-shit individual you are. Express yourself.
  6. Google Streetview UK launches

Haha, it seems like everyday is a slow news day in the UK sometimes, as Jake said something to that affect before. But I really can't speak well of my own country at all either.
  7. The Beatles Game

Well okay, I'm not a big Beatles fan, but my girlfriend is. I think this game is not going to be tailored to those who love going through Dragon Force and Buckethead songs, and that should be fine. There are a lot of people who love the Beatles and aren't particularly good at rhythm games, so I'm sure it will be a a more relaxed game that will probably capture a different audience. Nothing wrong with that though, right? I don't know, I never play these music games, so I should probably shut my trap.
  8. Mother 3

The website says the guide that the fans translated for this is on preorder, but I swear it was already done months ago... Did anyone happen to purchase or preorder it?
  9. Idle Thumbs 22: Put On the Top Ghost

I don't have anything original to add to this thread but I want to chime in to Remixor how much I loved his Randy Newman song about Up THE Video game. It should be in the movie in my opinion. And if not that, then a short before the movie with a loop of the old man hitting the snake from a video capture from the PC game scored along with the song. Also I agree long games have a tendency to really try your patience, even if well made. No matter what game you think is god, I think the majority of people who play anything linear and story driven max out at about 40 hours. I'm just taking an opinionated average. I don't like playing games longer than 30 hours each myself, even if it's great, and I feel like the game had better be very good and concise to offer less than 15 hours. And as other posters said, I think games stretching to the 50-80 hours mark will usually be found to have a lot of filler and retreading, even if it's a great game. Again, I agree that this margin will grow smaller with everyone that is older and has less time, but sees the buffet of great games and with lots of adult income on hand.
  10. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    Anything for my Idlethumbs brethren.
  11. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Damn it!!! I really need that one. If you or I go to another concert and they are selling certain rare CDs, can we make a pact to buy eachother a copy?
  12. I think you'll love this -- Pepsi design strategy

I can see the golden ratio as a both sides of the coin sort of thing, so I don't care to argue either way, I guess I wasn't enlightened of anything I didn't already know one way or another, sometimes using golden ratio rules in my artwork and sometimes not. It's more of an instinct or feeling basis when drawing, but I'm just a simpleton and not DaVinci with my leaque of 13 year old boy sex slaves. Hahah that's funny you brought that up. I kept saying it looks like it should hold some sort of feminine product now, but laundry detergent is much more polite and acceptable.
  13. Are YOU a rapist?

This is more of my interest for the remainder of the thread.
  14. Oddworld Pack on Steam

And I can't resist posting this quote from the Vintage Gamers site: I am filled with so much rage.
  15. Oddworld Pack on Steam

I guess the people on Vintage Games are not playing the Steam version then. Nevermind. But yes, I think they are a must play, and although the first one is frustrating and many times unforgiving, it is not that long and can be toughed out. Here's the best walkthrough ever, too: http://www.gamechronicles.com/guides/oddworld/oddwalk.htm Anyways, the Vintage Games forum seems very silly, there's even one post where it seems the player is suggesting that they should have made Abe jump more like Mario. But then again, these are players who apparently all quit Grim Fandango after the flaming beaver puzzle.
  16. Oddworld Pack on Steam

I can't believe people are ragging on the first game for making you start a few screens back. Obnoxious, yes, but it wasn't the only console game like this in that era. Also Abe's Oddysee is actually pretty short and can be beaten in a couple of hours if you know what you are doing, so they really shouldn't complain, so even though it sucks, difficulty is/was a very common way to lengthen gameplay. What really bothers me about the first game is just how hard it is to successfully free everyone since most of the secrets are very well hidden, or more difficult to complete than the game itself. All of these quibbles are fixed in Exoddus, so there's really no problem there. EDIT: I noticed on the forums people complaining about the L1+L2 button scheme type stuff, and also describing a save system I don't recall. I suppose Steam only has the Playstation versions of the game? If so, I'd steer clear and find the PC versions of both.
  17. Only if they have some silly lady giggling at giraffe shadow puppets. Here's hoping for the "epic fail!"
  18. I think you'll love this -- Pepsi design strategy

I've never really heard a great sustained argument with references, facts and examples against it, but I'd love to get more information on this. Also, this document is what happen when people pay big money for basic designs. I think their new billboards I've seen around town are stupid, but then again, there's not really any billboards I enjoy, so everything is equally offensive or unnecessary to me.
  19. The Path - woah

They shouldn't record voices with Sound Recorder and a basic computer mic.
  20. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I hope you picked up that tour exclusive Sexy Trash CD while you were there. I REALLY HOPE SO.
  21. Clever reinvention...?

Once some guy in one of my college classes told me about how he is a great screenwriter and working on a script that is very intellectual and will be big one day. He said he's going to put the "Phi" back in "SciPhi" because apparently it used to be Science Philosophy. I don't know, it must have been one of the dumbest and most bloated things I've ever heard, discounting Alan Moore. (TROLL!) Anyways SyFy sounds like a NuMetalGothIndustrialBand.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

    Hooray! It's still coming!
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

I just need some coffee and I'll try to be less cranky. Dear Movie/TV recommendations thread, I'm off to Spike and Mike tonight to look at all the vile and disgusting cartoons that get you great jobs in the industry.
  24. Idle Thumbs 20: Idle Thumbs 2000

1990 and up aren't what I'd consider early attempts at adventure games. Early attempts from the designer, I can somewhat understand. The Hugo 3d Wolfenstein clone was even worse though. I guess I played through them all for the same reasons as you but my heart has nothing but hate inside for Hugo and Penelope.
  25. Idle Thumbs 20: Idle Thumbs 2000

Anyways, I guess I missed the Hugo's House of Horrors reference. I really hated those games, but I played through them all when I was young, stiffing it out through all aches and pains of illogical puzzles, trying to get my dad to ask people at his work who may have played it on what to do next. Fuck, why were those games so terrible?
