Hahah, I've actually seen someone do that, but I don't remember why they were doing it. That is very messy method indeed.

Chris is right, Wikipedia is wrong. I've only briefly messed with cel-shading and outlines in 3d a few years ago in both 3DS Max and Maya (mostly because I'm not into the look), but you are doing two separate texture maps to achieve each affect, therefore the outline and the cel look does not go hand and hand. To achieve the cel look, which is easier to do, you destroy any kind of realistic reflection or bounced light in your texture and turn the specularity up extremely high, killing any major gradients, thus giving you the look. The outline I kind of sucked at doing just right, but it can be done multiple ways depending on the program, with plugin's, script, or playing with the falloff or outer reflection to emulate hard lines. Prince of Persia was not cel-shaded, but did have high specularity, so it's sort of similar but not the same. In general, cel-shaded things do not have complicated texture maps like that and is most affective with plain colors. I'm sure there are many other ways to achieve the same look for both effects that I have no clue about and I'm kind of rusty at 3d lately, but if you asked a texture artist to cel shade an object, you would probably be asked if you wanted an outline as well, but it would never mean an outline only.

I don't really know what to say either, especially on the monarchy issue, but this certainly is bizarre and tragic news. I don't think I want to see the video Marek is talking about, it'll just leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I think I got carried away here. The second one is guaranteed to sell 10x the amount of copies. And now I'm going to bed.

I think he may have been a Nickelodeon reject from that time. He's probably like 35 now.

Not even Sega can do that anymore. -
Idle Thumbs 26: Raising the 'Bargo

To go into boring self-indulgent story mode, I wanted a My Buddy for a year or so when I was small, until someone moved in across the street with one. It was all creepy and ratty, and the hair was just this matted, stand up straight, mess. I think the song on the commercial may have been the only reason I ever wanted one. -

Calm down. I don't think anyone here has a problem with you, especially with your sweet Beardy avatar. I think we're just all responding to the news you posted, although each picking bits and pieces. I just feel like the Mega Collection is as good as it's going to get. While it's lacking some of the historic extras Sonic Jam on Saturn had, it does contain full manual scans of every single game, a full array of codes for every game, the same multiple Sonic and Knuckles plug-in stuff, the ability to use save states, and extra unlockable games to boot. I'm just sick of seeing the original Genesis Sonic games remarketed and repackaged over and over. It might almost be as bad as Nintendo. Just saying, it seems like Sega is marketing on the fact that people forget this collection was only released like 4 years ago and will still work with the 360. Or maybe it will come with a full array of achievements that people will eat up? -
Hahah, I heard of this because Ryan on the The Office (US version) was watching it on his laptop. Also I fixed my rainforest rap to embed with a more pixelated version. Yay.

I don't get it, you can already play these if you go out and buy the Mega Collection Plus on regular Xbox. It's backwards compatable and it'll set you back like 3 bucks. It's silly that article was complaining that they weren't on the Ultimate Genesis collection. (And then to rub it in, as someone mentioned before, they are available on Gamecube, PS2, Sega Saturn, PC, and the original Genesis versions are very easy to find still.) -

You do realize two weeks ago you guys asked everyone to send you e-mails asking, "What is game?" right? -

Just started and I can't stop laughing with Nick about all this Geocities crap! And the pause after Jake's book comment was priceless. -
AzMwi6Sn_7E This is just as uncomfortable as it was when I first saw it on a field trip to somewhere in the second grade.

I was especially looking forward to getting a good Hammer and Tongs collection of stuff. I also probably would have bought the Shynola disc (even though I can't spell their name correctly) because even though I'm not fully familiar with their work, I do like their Blur videos as well as all of the top notch guide animations in the HHGGG movie.

Ah, I'm a little late, but I was going to recommend Exoddus first out of the 2D platformer series just because it's designed much better. It's also easier because of the added quicksave function, so if you were to go back and play Oddysee, you wouldn't maybe have as much of a hard time with the difficulty. Exoddus also has a funny 5 minute recap video of the first game so that you will be completely caught up to the story so far. But I think you'll appreciate all the new stuff in Exoddus even more if you finish Oddysee first. Just wait until you find out all the different species you can possess in the second game. The rest of the Oddworld games stand alone, but again do a good job of re-explaining the world to new players. Munch's Oddysee, while still a good game, is probably the worst one out of the bunch. It just has too many parts consisting of doing tedious or boring things for long periods of time in the later levels.

Maybe we can also draw on everything, similar to your Mario and Luigi 3 thread?

Hahah, I know this probably isn't how it happened, but when I read that I imagined a pudgy Texas woman yelling that at you in a thick Southern accent.

Yeah, now that you mention it, this will also be the first instance I have observed this as well. I wonder if anything will come of this... Good call!

Great article, thanks a million. I really like this part:

Well you know, I wouldn't want to fall out of love with you.

I have a list of like 15 or so independent games I've been meaning to play that have been recommended to me here and other places, but since I haven't played any of them, I'm afraid to recommend them. You know, someone might come back later and call me a bastard for recommending such an awful game.

Well yeah, just look at this guy: When that boulder makes it to the top, he is going to get so much drugs and pussy.

Does there have to be a third Pirate Bay thread? Really guys?
